So, medics and whatnot can get 7k every 10 seconds, but every few minutesmusicians make less than 1k and cant even use their buff to add 3 experience... I want some people to play good songs with! Tired of the same old-songs because all the Musicians are AFK

To gain the advantage of your own Inspiration buff, you need to buff yourself...then go play somewhere where you can't buff. Like right outside the cantina, or anywhere else where you can't heal fatigue or apply an inspiration buff. It only becomes active if you're not buffing yourself, which you do automatically if you play in a hotel, cantina, theater, tavern, scout campor any player structure.

So you can't ever get the inspiration buff to help you get entertainment healing xp, but you can have it apply to gaining music or dance xp.

Actually, you can remain in the cantina and activate your buff by using /stoplistenonce you've received the full buff. You'll then get bonus XP for music as well as entertainer healing. If you stop playing and then start again, you may need to throw in /stoplisten again.

If you are playing music then you automatically restart listening within a couple seconds of doing the stop. The inspire will only be active if you are not listening. So you would have to keep doing it again and again. Of course your music will then keep stopping over and over and sound horrible. Dancers do not have this problem and can do a "/stopwatch" to activate their inspire and the only way to start watching again is to stop dancing and start again.

Hmm.... something I noticed two days ago, when my band met for a rehearsal: during the moments when I was NOT playing music, when one of our dancers started dancing, I got messages like "You gain 11 entertainer heal xp (1 bonus)". I did not specifically watch her at the time. Also we were in a hotel at the time, so in a spot where Inspiration buffs should work. Looked like her heal xp for the buffs carried over to me.

First time this happened to me, although I didn't check if I actually got these xp or not (also didn't ask the others if they got the same messages). Bug or feature? Seems a tiny bit strange that you can get ent heal xp (with inspire bonus too) without actually performing

I've asked, but have not gotten verification of whether or not this is a bug or intended.

I've been reporting it as a bug. I don't think it's just the exp from buffing, I think it's *all* heal exp. IIRC I was getting more than 11 per tick at one point.

If it's a "feature," I don't like it. But then I always have issues with getting awarded exp for not doing anything.

I remember reading in a patch note that:

  • Extended performer experience rewards to all members of the buffer's band*

*from the Pub 17 patch notes 5/26/05

To me this is saying that the inspire healing XP gain will now go to all members of the band. Now literally that means that EVERYONE will get it, however I agree that the performer should be playing to get that XP just like the normal BF healing or the old mind wound healing.

Yet again the devs have taken something really simple and messed it up.

Yup..that patch note is really kind of weird. Remember, Frag..it was wellbefore that patch went to live that you & I were on Starsiderlooking at this as a bug. Don't know if that was a retro patch note or a legalization of an otherwise unexplained phenomenon.

I plead ignorance of that and defer to your better correspondant memory. I don't recall exactly when we saw that or what bugs we were looking at that night. There are just too many.

So we can get use out of our Inspir Buffs outside of Hotels, Cantinas, and Theaters. Unfortently most entertainers don't tend to group up there, and we get more than 10% grouping with 8 people at the cantina then all alone. Plus no entertainer healing XP outside the Cantina/Hotel/Theater

We've poked at it a little and only got the xp on characters who had novice ent or above. It was really strange to see the xp ticking away as I ran from the Cnet cantina to the Theater while grouped with Scip who was performing.

Ah, my apologies for the bad information. I guess I've been doing too much dancing lately to notice that this did not work for music.
