Thread: Forced To Master Musician

What would you do if you were forced to master the worst profession you could ever think of?

My nightmare started when I was told by my third (and most likely final) Holocron to, "Master Musician." I don't have anything against entertainers, I just personally did not want to be one. But the Holocron has a sick, sadistic way of ruining your finely-tuned character...

Now, I'm not just here to rant about my unfortunate Holocron incident. I'm just here to talk about AFK Macroing and to ask why it is despised so much on this forum and in game.

If I'm paying $15.00 per month for this game, and you are paying the same. Why is it not okay for me to go AFK for as long as I want? I'm paying for it. Is there some sort of time limit set forth in the ToS as to how long you can be online, or as to what you have to be doing while online?

I can see the annoyance of having an AFK entertainer taking up spots in an active group (fine, I don't group anyway; I'll do it on my own). I can also see the frustration of having someone with a macro that continually spams the same ridiculous and sometimes maddening phrases over and over. That's not cool.

Basically I'm looking for reasonable opinions as to what's wrong with AFK macroing (especially for a profession that you hate more than anything else in the entire game)?

P.S. For those of you who say, "If you don't like it, go do something else" I say: I'm on my 3rd Holocron-requested profession. I've worked extremely hard to get where I am now and I'm not going to stop, even though it threw Master Musician in my path. I don't want to be a Musician (I'll drop it the moment I hit Masterand never speak of the horrible experience again). But it would be the ultimate wasteto just give up, after using up 3 Holocrons...

Thanks for your time.

Okay, I know you're going to AFK macro and there's nothing anyone can do to stop you, so just stay out of the cantina. You can still get musician XP anywhere, and if you go to the hotel there's a chance you can get healing XP. You'll have a hard time getting healing XP if you're AFK though, even in a cantina...so there's no point in annoying the other musicians there.

Even if we pay the same amount of money, if I'd cheat while playing a combat profession, you'd cry foul as well.

Yes. No unattended gameplay. Read it.

There are enough threads already why real Entertainers don't like Macrotainers. I won't repeat it here, that horse died in early bronze age.

Good luck that's all I say since you'll do it AFK.

About the Holocrons, you are not almost there, some people allready went through 4-6 holocrons and now they are getting holocrons that say "All is quiet" and they are totally lost, no closer to Jedi and not a clue on what to do now.

The joke is on all of you.

No one forces you to become a Jedi, so no one forces you to become a master musician. It's your choice.

For your well tuned player, why do you care ? When you'll become a Jedi, you'll play it I guess. And you have to prove that you are really dedicated to become a Jedi.

As for afk... I for one really don't care, but I'm in a minority here. People says that others profession (people like you in fact) criticize us because of afk. So there is now a consensus that we need to hit our keyboard like a madman to prove we're a real entertainer... Ridiculous, I always use a macro when I'm playing and I don't play much afk... When I fight I hit a macro and that's it and noone complains about it.

Just go to Theed or Coronet, find a large group of afk people here and stay online for one week and after you'll become a Jedi and surrender the skill. I don't think you'll do much more damage to the profession.

Look at the entertainer forum. The correspondent there explains how to master all entertainers professions.

Here is what you do:

1. Find a busy Cantina (I like Theed)

2. Join a music group

3. Flirt with Dancers

4. Make some friends

5. Don't go afk,you may find some of the best game play SWG has to offer.

Good luck.

Okay, thanks for the responses so far. Just wanted to go over a few key points I couldn't understand:

Why does it bug Entertainers if someone is AFK? I'm still not understanding what's wrong with the situation.

Also, you have no idea how close to Jedi I am. I'm guessing and so are you (but I'll bet I'm a lot closer than you :smileyvery-happy.

Anyway, thanks for the info, no need to get all pissy and die of a heart attack over my post. I know some of you entertainers use this game as a glorified chatroom (which makes me understand why most of you are overly dramatic and rude).

I'll play the game how I want as long as I'm not hurting anyone else or ruining their gaming experience.

P.S. It's not cheating to make a macro.

P.P.S. I wouldn't give a **edit** if you power-leveled a combat class (If you chose to do that, more power to ya).

Do you generally group with 10 other combat players,6 of which are AFK?

Then just stay out of the cantina when you are AFK. Don't second guess it. You claim you care enough to not want to ruin anyone's experience, yet your posts say the contrary.

But you are, there used to be a group of 4-6 regular AT keyboard entertainers in the Mos Eisley cantina on Tempest, the past weeks I have seen 1 new one show up regularly and the others I have not seen in over a week, last night there were 3 AFK bots in the spot where i've been for a month now, when it was 1 AFK bot I just had fun with him, singing about him being a healing droid, punching him, having my pet CU PA stamp on his feet and asking him if it hurt but after a while there were 3 AFK bots and nobody else, customers left, healers left, I was alone with 3 AFK signs, so I left the spot that I like (again) because it's no fun, I'm sure 5 minutes after I left others walked in to get healed but I left, left for Tyrena where I played alittle while before logging off.

So I left the spot where I have the most fun because some healing droids decide to park there before going to work or whatever.

I know it's a public cantina and I'm all for other entertainers coming in to perform with me but when the AFK's all stand in front of the steps and I'm polite enough to stand behind them when they came in so they got some attention too it is severely ruining my game experience and like most of the time I will go around dragging others down with me, all in character offcourse, but people don't come all the way from Naboo, Corellia or god knows where to see me with my head hanging down because some AFK droid made me change my mood to sad and a sad musician is not something everyone enjoys and a singing sad musician is something almost nobody enjoys.

Sadly I cannot do anything about it, except add you to the list of names besides my computer with people I will no longer invite to groups or teach any skills.

Almost every entertainer I know on Tempest knows how I feel about AFK tainers, most feel the same way. But when someone brings a new entertainer in the cantina where I am and that entertainer asks me for some clothes and I give her a 5000 credits gown without hesitation and this new entertainer runs off or goes AFK then I am no longer having fun.

Dancers used to come over from Naboo just to have some fun, last time that happened was a few weeks ago.

So why are you complaining that I'm complaining ? I have every reason to complain because I am always there, except when I'm sitting down with AFK over my head which happens maybe 2-3 times a day and never lasts longer then 3 minutes.

You would understand the problem if you'd play the game instead of calling us chatters. I'm not playing the game to chat and I can give you some names who will all tell you that I sometimes don't reply to their /tell's because I'm too involved in my performance, welcoming people, asking how they are, wishing them good luck wherever they are going, trying to figure out new song transitions on various instruments, things you wouldn't understand as a AFK musician...

Hmmm

While I do not care for your opinions on my much beloved profession I will not address that overmuch.

Frankly

The hell with the afk issue we now have a bigger one.

People forced to play a class they hate.

I just do not see the reasoning behind this.

Just dont get it very poor concept

Anyhow Good luck on your path to the force.

Oh and btw with your dislike for our class, please leave these forums and dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out

Have a super day
