I too have to get Master Musician,

So here is what I am doing,

During the time I am on I am in the busy cantinas doing my thing. If I am going to AFK, I am going to go to Datooine or some other high level planet where there is never any entertainers, and the clientel are only looking to get a quick heal and then back into the fight.

This way I will not be bothering the masses, but providing a servie to those who only wish a service.

I think it may be a workable compromise. since I too don't like the idea of dropping my master ranger and BH skills to play a slitherhorn for the next month.

now that said I was in a group in Theed last night and I had stuff to do, I asked the group if anyone had a problem if I went AFK for an hour or so, and nobody did. If they would have said no, I would have left the group and gone to Datooine at that point. As long as I respect the others there and try to curb my play to be a benefit I am hoping it will not interfere with others enjoyment of the game as well.

any thoughts?

Entertainers if someone is AFK? I'm still not understanding what's wrong with the situation.

The problem is AFK ents give us a bad name because they cambor in the front of the cantina hoping for healing xp and block the real ents who go there to perform... i understand why u want to afk macro... go for it ... but if your going to be in the cantina ... go off to the side by the wall and do it there so the real entertainers can perform w/o a mess of ppl afk in front of them

Better to go afk in starting planete like Rori or Corellia, and in remote cities than in advanceplanete where we should earn money if there were not so many afk there.

That is an absolute disservice to non-entertainer classes. In the remote cities, entertainers only stop by once in a blue-moon. No entertainers will ever be refused there, AFK or not. If you are in a remote cantina with an AFK entertainer and someone comes in, chances are you'll get the tip and not the AFK-er, so this is not an issue anyway.

I'm actually looking forward to my having to master musician (just got my holocron today). I've always envied those cool songs, and I've got enough xp so making it back to BH shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Thank you for that response. That's all I was looking for with this post, really. I did not want to start some kind war, I just wanted to know, "why" AFKers were frowned upon.

So it's just the prime real estatebeing takenthat bothers people. I can totally understand that...

As for the other people who decided to get nasty and hateful for no reason, <insert terrible comment here>.

I'm here to get through Master Musician as FAST as humanly possible. When I'm done with it, I'll drop it instantly and never step into your little world of entertainment again. I didn't want this profession, I was given it by the Holocron. My 3rd Holocron. So, don't mind me while I'm passing through. I won't be drinking any more of your koolaid than necessary on my way out the door.

P.S. It's not cheating to make a macro.

P.P.S. I wouldn't give a **edit** if you power-leveled a combat class (If you chose to do that, more power to ya).

A macro is fine. Unattended Gameplay is against the EULA and may forfeit your game and character if you are caught and Sony decides to enforce it's legal document.

I don't give a *selfedit* if you powerlevel. Welcome to the cantina ! Flourish all you want, as long as you are there ! Powerleveling does not mean go to work and let your PC level your character. Powerleveling means you put a lot of work and fun into nothing but gaining xp while you are there.
I bet you'd cry if I had a aim bot for SWG combat classes.

Why do I not like Macrotainers ? They take up real estate. They make the cantina look like a bulk of druggies standing around. Can you imagine how much fun dancing is when you can form a group and line up to a dance to do it syncronous ? Can't do that with AFKers, they won't line up, they won't do bandflos. They won't even move out of the way to let the rest do what is most fun...

Musicians in a band always play the song that everyone in the group can play. Now imagine me having fun with a good sounding high level song. An entertainer joins, Slitherhorn SW1. I join in, lessening my fun to help him gain xp. A compromise. He barely stays at the keys long enough to acknowlegde me. When 10 people are playing, I ask in groupchat what the highest song is that each one can play. If no ones answers, I'll play Virtuoso, leaving the rest standing and gaining no xp. I don't think I should change my playstyle and fun for anyone who is not even there to communicate and maybe find a compromise.

I was there before Macrotainers appeared and I know how a normal cantina with casual players can look like. It can be a hub of activity and fun with a band in one corner and dancers lined up doing bandflos on the dancefloor. People actually enjoying the show instead of going AFK as customer because the entertainer is AFK as well. When you come into a cantina, it's no spot for entertainers to start a show. Nowadays it's a parking lot for a wild horde of Macrotainers.

If you don't think dancing and playing songs is fun, that's ok, to each his own. But lessening other players fun just because you can or because SOE has a piss poor concept for Jedihood is not ok. And I see too many people daily doing so.

1. Stay in a corner.

2. Don't include /say or /shout or /yell or anything of the sort in your macro.

Not following thosetwo guidelines are the REALLY annoying attributes that appear to be common to AFK entertainers. Just have a /join every so often in your macro and you'll get the ent healing and music exp of any group that decides to invite you.

Here's one specific to musicians:

3. Try to flourish as often as possible in your macro (obviously there is a tradeoff with efficiency). A slitherhorn sounding the same few notes over and over and over is unbearable.

I talked to a Holocron victim that told to give up master bounty hunter and master musician. He asked for advice, so I gave him a bunch of pointers. One of the pointers was not to go afk very often or for long periods while in an entertainer group.

'Why not?' he asked..

Me: cuz they don't like that...

Him: how come?

Me: If your group is hunting Krayt Dragons do you want half of them to go afk?

Him: good point.. lol

Well... I just picked up musician today... I am working towards Master Musician.

Did a holocron tell me? No.

Do I feel it might be required for FSCS? Possibly.

Do I care? No.

Well I just got sick of the craze going on about holocrons etc. and hunting til i got anxiety like crazy so I dropped most of my combat skills and am peacefully working towards Master Musician. A welcomed change.

My main beef with AFK entertainers...

They insult my way of life. I've put a large portion of my time since early July to become the best musician I can be. They grind it like its a chore. I love music, sure the current songs are getting old and we need new ones, but I still get compliments on my shows be cause I put soul into it and it shows. I am proud of my profession, if you are an AFK entertainer, you are obviously not proud enough of your profession to work for itand probably should not be playing it. They also don't seem to understand that the skilled, quality, entertainment gets labeled as AFKers too, or are believed to be AFK when they the true AFKers are around. Therefor they insult me, and they cause others to believe foul things along the lines of insulting me.

Thats my main problem.

Secondly....

If you are AFK, you can also be considered selfish. Hereare several points as towhy. They all want to be in the band, maybe you won't but the other AFKers do. They all want a master musician to play down for them while they leave their character unattended. They also leave what I would consider to be a poor macro going usually, some do stupid crap like repeating each flourish twice, repeat. AFKers often just don't even consider the flow of the flourishes and give them an erratic order that sounds horrible. Another thing is that a lot of the combat players don't tip much to begin with. Then when they have the choice of AFK vs. live, they go with AFK most frequently so thatthey have no obligation to tip. Not to mention, some AFK players do just enough to make their macros give them a near live entertainer feel. So this also draws tips a way from the harder working live entertainment. This choice between entertainment, although it doesn't effect me being a master and maxed, can have aneffect on the amount of XP, for both musicianship, and entertainment healing, that an entertainer might get if they were alone.

To put this all in terms for a more combat oriented player. AFK entertainment vs. live entertainment, quite simply, is moreon par with kill stealing then macroing combat. Its a test of ones ethics I guess.

I chose not to go the macro route, and to enjoy my time as a musician. Only three more skill boxes, and I'll be able to pick up novice.
