I see absolutely no way Thunderheart's idea will stop the buffbot problem.

TH has asked me to provide a link to the In Concept thread on possible bonuses for Musicians and listeners who are at the keyboard. As I posted in the thread, I think the basic idea is a good one, but I'd like to see it broadened considerably. Still, it's a start.
Here's the URL. I've never been able to produce a proper link on these boards; my apologies.

I am sorry... as nice as it is to see them finally addressing some of our issues...they aren't fixing the problems. Forget about bonuses to ATK players and fix the AFKers and buffbots. Why add more code and potential bugs when there are simpler solutions... like no XP while AFK and no looping macros.

Because you can't necesarily define what's AFK. Having the AFK tag is optional, very easibly turned off. You'd have to stictly enforce the being AFK after 10 minutes thing, allowing users not to turn of this option.

Saying get rid of "looping macros" is easy, but then you would impact convenainace macros and stuff for people hunting. Stuff like Beserk, COB, Harvesting and such, none of which is a problem.
Plus, give me 30 minutes and I can make a macro that never loops that can run for 24 hours.

I use the looping macro so that i can chat easier to my listeners. But like the guy said above it'll impact a lot of other things

the AFK musicians arent a problem, its the AFK buff bots, i dont beleive that we should elimate the loop in macros and whatnot, but i beleive the big problem is the buff bots taking EVERYTHING, i do this for fun, but i cant be at home doing it, i get a measly amount of tips, and i dont want to be pressing the floursih button 500 times an hour! the big problem, i see, is the buff bots buffing for tips, like they probably make 1 mill creds a day! especially briha on bria, its rediculous (i cant spell) to see 500 people crowded around her, and no one listening to the ATK or... at least th AFK groups. i try to be as active as i can, but most of the time i cannot, i say that we remove the /join command from the list as well as the group leader one. this way we can take out the buff-bots and the "afk groups" all-toghether.

Well, at least it's a start. They are acknowledging one of our main problems, and are asking our opinion on a proposed solution for it. I'm not really sold on the solution they are proposing (it has its good sides, but also a number of problems, which have been pointed out in that thread already), but at least some sort of dialogue has started. So if they really dedicate Publishes 10.1 and 10.2 to the top Correspondent issues, we may actually get something useful for a change...
On another note: there have been a number of comments in that thread along the lines of "Who cares about entertainers?? Fix the important things". Of course that was only to be expected, and I can actually sympathize and agree with those people who are disappointed that the combat revamp got delayed (it is a disastrous decision, not only for gameplay reason, but because it really hurts the credibility of the developers and hence the game itself).
That being said, I really REALLY hope that the following quote is not a good indicator of the opinions of the general player-base towards us, but rather just an anti-social ass spouting his bullsh*t:
No. The less interaction I have with entertainers the better. I don't want to interact with those people in any way except to /tip them. I resent having battle fatigue in the game to justify them. The cantina is a place I want to get in and out of as fast as possible. I hate downtime. The cantina is the epitomy of useless downtime. It lowers the fun factor for the game. I also hate having less than half a dozen staffed cantinas on the entire server: Coronet, a player city with afkers, Theed, Mining Outpost on Dant and Bestine. We need NPC entertainers for unstaffed cantinas. Or maybe chef food or spice that heals bf.
If you want me to interact with other players, give me some dungeons with loot in them.
That post is quoted in its entirety, without any changes...

In my opinion that quote is a good approximation of the viewpoint of all powergamers and 1337s. They don't understand why anyone would want to play the game as an entertainer, and they resent taking any time out from using their weapon. These folks are a large minority, as the grind towards Jedi (an overwhelmingly leet-orientated occupation)has shown.

Hehe - not even 30 minutes...
Besides, a lot of musicians and dancers use macros, including looping ones, to set up "valid" performances, so that would be a huge hit to those folks (of which I am one, if you hadn't guessed that already). Given the option between keeping the current system or killing AFKers but losing macros, I'd keep it the same.

While i totally disagree with what he said and how he said it, I can identify with both sides.
You can't see how people can hunt for hours on end, not intereacting with anybody.
He can't see how people find Entertaining fun.
Both sides pay to play and both have a right to play how they want (within TOS limits.)
You both log on with a plan or agenda of what you want to do that night.
The Entertainer gets bitter because his plan is disrupted by idiot AFKers in a public spot (note the public.)
The Hunter gets bitter because he is forced to kill BF, traveling away to do so, cutting into his hunting time. Really bitter if he can't find a performer.
Both sides have valid points of view.
