Exact same post in the Dancer forums, asking about a Dance buff.

Just as insulting over there as it is here.

Could have definitely been worded better. We don't take too kindly to folks who just want macros so they can walk away from their game and provide the same benefit AFK as we can ATK. Even if it's just "go get a coffee."

I'd say get your coffee, then come back and buff your player. But, as the tired argument goes, who am I to tell you "how to play your game" except to suggest that you play your game. Otherwise, why start it up in the first place?

Peace.

Makes you wonder just how much SOE does make from ent support characters? I'm simply amazed at the number of people I see spending an additional 15 a month so they can play this single player.

Well guys, when you work shift work in real life, so generally when you play there are no dancers around and you dont want to spend an hour space hopping in the vain hope of trying to find one before you run off to fight mobs that you need a mind buff for - maybe you will understand why I have a dancer/musician support character. I only want it for personal use on my own character so its not that I'm just leaving it running afk to deprive the player dancer musicians. However maybe I should do just that after the warm reception I have recieved here and in the dance forum.....

Incidently I found the macro I was looking for.

I've read a lot of threads started by someone who wants to make an AFK buffer. Believe me, your welcome was quite warm compared to many.

Recognize this, please. There are a heck-o-alot of players in Galaxies. There areplenty ofMusicians and Dancers who play during the "off hours." No matter when I log in, as ANY of my characters on ANY server, when I check my friends list there's ALWAYS a Master Musician or Dancer friendonline, and usually both. All it takes is a little time and desire to get to know some Entertainers on your server and you won't have to worry about creating your own. It'll save you 15 dollars a month andit'll help you regainthe respect of the Live Entertainment Community.

Oh, and another thing to remember, we have stickies about macros for a reason--so people don't add clutter to the board by asking for them. The reason we don't have buffbot macros featured prominentlyin the stickies is because they exploit the game systems and ruin the in-game lives of an entire class of people.

At the end of the day I came to this forum to get some help, I dont play a dancer/musician character, so I would not be aware of the problems or concerns that you guys have, all i asked for was a bit of help for the reasons I have listed, as a personal character buff, not to deprave anyone of 'tips' all i wanted was to log on, target my character press a button with a macro and be done asap and off back with my main fighting.

My plea was asked innocently and with no intentions of offending - what I got in return was a barrage of abuse - then you ask why do i throw comments in like ' maybe I should leave my dancer running'.

At the end of the day I found the macro i was looking for, and no I dont intend to use my dancer/musician for anything other than I originally intended.

But next time when someone genuinely asks for advice maybe you should think a bit before flaming in future.

But If I unintentionally offended anyone i'm sorry

I rolled up an entertainer as my first character on SWG, as a veteran of EverQuest I came to these forums a little over a month ago to find more out about the class. The hostility and elitism of this forum frankly astonished me.

You want to know why people often roll up entertainer ‘bots’ rather than actively play them? I can’t speak for everyone but I can explain why I did it.

  1. Convenience. There may be 100s of entertainers out there, but (at least on my server) they fall into 2 categories. You either have the people advancing in rank to become master in entertainer groups who do not want non-entertainers or buff bots. Most non-entertainers want to pop in, get their buffs and continue on their merry little way. They don’t want to socialize about the latest Theed fashions, or what Zebrak is dating who. They want to get back to what they enjoy.

  2. Attitude. As to what I’m sure will be to your chagrin I usually just went to the buff bot even when I had BF/Wounds. Why? You may ask. Because most of the entertainers were always whining about the buff bots, or whining about the AFKtertainers. People dislike whiners, its human nature. I don’t like a great many things in life but I don’t sit around and complain constantly to everyone around me about it. Things I can change I help change. Things I can’t I move on about. I won’t even get started about your hostility towards anyone asking simple questions like the one that started this thread. Buff bots don’t have an agenda that they feel the need to spout off to every poor soul that happens by. Buff bots don’t ignore you when you ask for a buff, they don’t whine about the tips they’re not getting they simply function. I feel quite sure I'm going to be flamed for that response, but I honestly believe it to be the truth.

You see not everyone enjoys playing an entertainer but wants the benefits without the hassle. I understand that and do not spend my time belittling those who make doc ‘bots’ for their guild, or various artisan ‘bots’ for tasks that are necessary (to the player) to do the things they enjoy. I understandthat particular person feels he/she is following the path they feel will lead to the most fun for them.

A few entertainers I’ve come across are extremely pleasant persons to deal with, unfortunately most either ignore a combat professional or have some rude comment about buff bots. Even though their problem lies with the game, they take their bitterness out on the player. This is not conjecture; this has been my experience (I have been playing 6 weeks now). With the bitterness and hostility in these forums I’m surprised you haven’t started a crusade against Ahrisa, Brandy and Canapés.

I wonder how many of you who spend your time spewing your hate of buff bots ever stopped to consider the reasons people made them in the first place. Every one of them is supported by somebody paying $15 a month of their hard-earned real money for a purpose. It’s not in-game commerce I can assure you. People don’t tip the buffbots, that’s a known fact. So why is there some nameless face assigned to every one of those bots out there? Why are some people willing to pay $30 minimum to play this game? To read these forums you’d think every one of them was rolled up to spite the holy minions of entertainers chosen by Lucas himself.

I’m sorry but after I read this forum and the players it represents (this was back at my second week of playing the game mind you), and encountered a few of these 'evangelical' players in-game I activated an old EverQuest station handle, picked up an extra copy of the game and made my very own personal buff character . It’s worth $15.00 a month not to deal with the inconvenience, hostility and elitism. It’s either that or I continue roaming the galaxy for Ahrisa, Brandy and Canapés so I can just log on, relax and kill stuff for a few hours each day.

You know, stuff I enjoy.

I suppose this isn't the typical "how to play your game"response, instead this is the "why I play the game the way I do" response. I try to be understand of my fellow player, some of you could do well to do the same. More understanding and less hostility would be good for you. You'd enjoy a much more harmonious outcome.

You have every right to do things you enjoy, until it infringes on the right of others to do the same, and within game guidelines. AFK character progression is against the EULA and soon to be fixed.

Every single one of these posts that I read about 'I don't want to spend precious hours hopping the galaxy to find an ent, whine, whine, whine...', in not ONE of them, have they mentioned trying out their server's live entertainer channel. In not ONE of them, have they mentioned trying to socialize with an Ent, make friends, recruit them to their guild. In not ONE of them have them mentioned using the ingame search feature to find live performers.

It just boils down to: I'm gonna get what I want, when I want, and I don't care who I offend by doing it.

You've played for a whole six weeks. Congratulations. You've been brought up in a broken game. This is NOT the way it is meant to be played. Trust me, the real game is MUCH different, and if you don't want to socialize or be a member of the community, you have no business playing a MMORPG. Go play a console game.

Good luck fighting those creatures you 'need' a mind buff for, after the combat rebalance. Good luck with that alt account after they nerf recursive macros.

From the EULA:

You may not decrypt or modify any data transmitted between client and server; you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play.

My personal buff bot will be attended, by me. The keyboard is2 feet away. As long as my $15 is paid it will be fine. No EULA violations what so ever. They can remove the macro system complately and it won't affect me in the least.

Granted, I like it because it lets you level up utility characters with less effort. This isn't the first MMOG to try forced class dependency. You want to knowa little secret? Every time they try this, it fails.

People...don't...like...being...told...they...have...to...have..specific...classes...to...play...a...game. The days of being "LFG" for hours because you have to have an X,Y,and Z are over my friend. Wake up, it's not 1999 anymore. I'm sure they're going to revamp things some, but if they force everybody to have specific classes to get anywhere...well this game will join Earth & Beyond, in the beyond.

And as to this comment:

I've played 7 MMOGs over the span of the past 8 years, I rather have a good concept of how they work. I play to have fun. You know, entertainment, enjoyment. My definition and yours evidently must differ. Never once did *I* claim I didn't want to socialize , I explained *my* motives for making a 'buffbot'. You've done well in proving my point exactly. The whole "play my way or play Madden '04" attitude disuades people from wanting to play entertainers. Attitudes like this provide motivation for sure. Motivation to seek avenues other than "live" entertainers. This is going to do well to help the cause of revamping a broken class, yes. Alienate new people, tell them they're not welcome 'In your world'. It will help the masses of people decide on another MMOG, a chain of events that hastends the life of the MMOG.

Attitudes like yours I've seen before. Bitter, burned out players who have no business playing the game any longer. You should try another MMOG since you're so upset that you feel the need to lash out at anyone who's ideals oppose yours.

(annoying as heck when somebody who doesn't know you offers advice isn't it?)

The biggest game out there, EQ, still requires groups of mixed professions to take many mobs and dungeons. No the days of interdepence are far from over. Interdependence is good because it does foster the massive multiplayer part. Sure you can play the game pretty much alone, but why? At least a single player game has a defined goal and ending not just endless rounds of shooting the same creatures for months. It is in large part the interaction with other people that keep an MMO going.

The problem with the buff-bots that give you so much convenience is that they completely eliminate the purpose that entertainers play. The entertainer has become a paying NPC in too many peoples minds and that has made some fighters get really rude, nasty, and demanding of another PERSON because they forget someone is on the other side of that toon.

I'm not against fighters, I'm master rifleman myself. I'm not rude although I won't just stop whatever I'm doing everytime someone demands a buff. If I did then I would expect them to stop whatever they are doing everytime I needed a group to go to a dungeon.

I'm generally curteous, talkative, and friendly and a lot of other players appreciate it. If they don't want to talk then I don't bombard them. I do expect to be treated like another player and not a friggin NPC. The buff-bot has given too many players like yourself the opinion that buffs are required and should be available immediately 24/7. They aren't even needed for 80+ percent of the content and the content you do need them for a person playing 6 weeks alone shouldn't even be able to handle yet. In fact some of the high end content you should not and will not ever be able to handle alone.

What I don't understand is how this is such a big deal for mind buffs but not doc buffs. I've seen people hopp between several starports looking for a doc. Why is the mind buff so different? Especially since with the mind buff we have to be in specific locations that make it easier to find.
