Thread: BUG: Surrendered Musician but still can play EVERYTHING

I noticed a fairly major bug which I believe is related to Western song acquisition, though I am not totally sure of that connection. Let me describe what's happening.

I surrendered almost all of musician, since my bandmates one by one quit the game or at least pursued other professions under the onslought of buffbots and lack of entertainer content.

I still have novice musician, but no longer have master entertainer.

While a musician, I had acquired Western.

And now despite surrendering most of musician and surrendering master entertainer, I can still play western and every other song, including ceremonial, and I can still craft and play every single instrument, including the mando. I tested this again yesterday by playing a narl and a mandovial. i can play virtuoso, western, ceremonial, etc. I have not tested to see whether I can still buff or not.

I obviously should not be allowed to do any of this. I assume it doesn't normally happen to musicians, master entertainers, or dancers surrendering their skills; if it doesn't, then maybe me having acquired western added some flag/bug that allowed me to unfairly keep the songs and instrument access.

Imagine if this sort of thing happened with a combat profession... it would be noticed immediately and fixed immediately. This is an outrageous bug.

This is an interesting bug. I guess the big question is can you still heal and buff?

Personally I would not have a problem if you could still keep themusic for RP purposes but lose the ability to act as a healer and buffer. ( In that model they would have to force the dropping ofthe healing and techtrees first or only allow it when you drop the entire tree after mastering).

For the Western song it is working as intended, or so I beleive. As a Master Musician / Master Entertainer / Master TKA, i temporarly used my tiny leftover skillpoints to learn enough Dance skill to learn the Theatrical and Theatrical2 dances (from the Theater Manager quest), to finally, and regretfully, surrender the Dancer profession (I would have like much to keep it but i was really missing the possibility to get some novice scout or medic skills ).

I don't have the bug you just described as all Dancer dances are gone, I can still have some fun with the dances up to Master Entertainer and the Theatrical once, as I planned =)

But this is indeed an important thing to be /bugged about and you should even send a ticket (before they accuse you of exploiting heh )

What about other Musician features in the Healing and Tech lines?

Well, that's fairly disturbing.

Whether or not you can still heal/buff, the skills are for Musicians...so when you drop them, they should be gone.

I have noticed (after recently dropping a bunch of skills) that I had a bunch of rifles xp saved up from the last time I tried going RifleWook, but forgot about it. That is, until I earned enough xp for a new box in Rifles, and then suddenly it said "You now qualify for Rifles I. You have lost 46531 Rifles xp."

It basically reset my xp to the allowed cap for the level I was at, but only AFTER I'd filled up a box to get to that level. This didn't happen upon learning the Novice box, only the first box. What's strange is that this "hidden xp" didn't show up until I'd gained enough to get my first box, then suddenly I'd lose it and it'd get reset to the proper cap amount.

I dunno, something's screwy with xp, and now I'm wondering if I could've done a couple Rifles moves with a rifle certification I'd lost a long time ago.

Anyways, if this is something others can confirm, then it needs to be fixed. They did the same for Merchants after the whole "drop 6 vendors, drop all skills, keep vendors" problem. Our skills are just that - ours - and without the skillpoint investment, no one should be able to use them.

Keeping XP until you actually use a skill based on that XP always worked that way. I dropped rifleman a couple of months ago and went brawler. The combat experience I had reset only after I took my first punch and man did it hurt to lose it. My rifle XP is still sitting there and I know that if I ever use a rifle, certified or not, my XP will reset to almost nothing.

As for playing all the songs and instruments this sounds like a character bug and not a general bug. I have several friends who have dropped various levels of musician lately. Man I hate it cause we used to be able to jam on every song and now they can't participate on all of them. For the first time in a few months I'm having to ask my normal group of ent friends what songs I can and cannot switch to. I know they aren't keeping those skills because when I forget and switch they stop performing. All of these friends have western BTW so it may be related but it isn't something that hits every musician.

Allegro,

Did you transfer your character to another server?

I'm only asking that because I know one person that did transfer and had the same bug, but with a completely different profession.

So, this is not something limited to musician only and I'm not sure what has been done to fix it.

(Warryyr, yes, that is how xp has always worked. It was always lovely to lose all that xp.)

This sounds like a prime candidate for something to be tested on a TC with blue frogs on it (the latest one is TC-Ahazi). Obviously, the harder part of the testing would be to get Western, but it's still a lot easier to test this in an environment where it's not a horrible thing to drop Musician and Entertainer skills .

But it sounds like there's a good lead if it's a character transfer issue.

I can still master buff as well even though I am not master anymore.

And good call Kauri! I did transfer servers, I was master musician on Chimera and transfered several months ago to Sunrunner to play with friends. I dropped musician after I transferred to Sunrunner.

So it sounds like a transfer problem rather than an issue with Western. I had not considered that at all.

I will update the bug I filed.

I hope they fix that bug soon, otherwise some people might start moving a character around a few times and end with a Brawler/TKA/Sword/Fencer/pikeman/Pistoleer/Rifleman/BH/Marksman/Doc/CM template

You only have to be novice musician to play western.
