Thread: Poll: If you weren't a Musician...

So before anyone even tries to go off the deep end, this poll is not *in any way* based on some kind of extra knowledge I have, or anything like that. I have *not* been told anything even remotely indicating that we are being removed from the game. I'm simply trying to get an ever closer idea of how we think, what we want, who we are. No claims of "he's asking us what we want to do instead, they're removing Musician!" ok?

Hypothetical: It's July 2003, and Star Wars Galaxies is released. You are given a 3 month subscription by a friend/family member/hobo as a gift. In this alternate reality, the entertainer professions do not exist.

What professsion(s) would you play during your 3 month free period, and what would you hope to get out of your play experience?

As always, feel free to elaborate as much as you want on your answers.

Well for me that would be pretty easy.

I actually started playing as an Artisan, and specifically moved on into Architect (though I was tempted by Tailor). I would have been going for the "support", RPand "virtual world" aspects of the game, not combat.

I will say that in this hypothetical world, I would have then cancelled after 3 months.

Hypothetically, I would have stuck with solely crafting professions, and would mainly play a shipwright now...if I was still playing, which itself would be a long shot.

Easy for me to say..sort of..

For those couple of months inlate 2003when I dropped all my ent profs I first went tailor/architect and then smuggler/pistoleer/tkm. But I couldn't get the performer out of my blood. Considering I still have a tailor/arch and a tkm/doc on different accounts..it would be one of those two (probably alternating between them ona regular and frustrating basis). But I honestly don't think I would enjoy them as much as I enjoy performing.

Scip said I could answer as a Dancer, I think this is a fun question. I'm curious to see what others say.

For me, ID was the only Ent prof I was interested in before I started playing (I had planned on going ID/Smug but I also was interested in BE). I ended up dancing for two reasons 1) I wanted to heal and the crafting in Medic was really turning me off (I still have Doc on a lot of chars, but I don't love it because I hate the item dependency) and 2) it was just too darn pretty for me to say no to. Even though I drop ID on and off, I always have Dancer on all of my chars.

So if Ent was never an option at all, I probably would have gotten up to Smuggler, BE, and Doctor enough to play with them all and test them out. I just would have done it a lot faster. I probably would have also stumbled into CH and Pistoleer just like I ended up doing from the lead ins you get with BE and Smuggler to those two. I have mastered all of these profs anyway and have alts with them trained out there... I just also always have Dancer as much as possible too.

The main profs I have been interested in that Dancer has really sort of held me back from commiting to all the way to have been SL and CM.

I would have been a pure combat character. Probably Pistols and TKM (which is what I'm gonna do in the CURB since I'm gonna leave music behind.) What I would have gotten out of it? I woulda killed lots of things. I killed things as a musician anyways (always have had combat skills in addition to my music.) I just woulda killed them far more efficiently than I do right now.

Smuggler,Doc,Ranger... I think I always wanted Smuggler... Imperial Officer, hiding under cover as a smuggler on the fringes spying. Doc as I love being a healing support... Anything else well hard to honestly pick as Tailor would have been a great cover for a spy/smuggler(Ents as well) but I think Ranger would have been a good combo with a smuggler... having to go to out of the way places sneak through the wild

That one's easy because I only have to remember my very first character, which I started on Eclipse on July 4th, 2003 (I only went entertainer when the Chimaera server opened in November 2003).

Ranger, because I always seem to end up as a ranger-y kind in any RPG. I just like the independence implied - before coming to Chimaera, I've always been more the loner type. Even today, I have two Tracker characters - on Starsider and on Gorath (I don't play that one anymore though)

Pistoleer, because it's Star Wars'y (so is Carbineer, but carbines are ugly and too much of an in-between thing for me)

Probably rifleman/ranger... got normal combat on ahazi and doc/crafter on Naritus... so most likely I wouldn't have had this character if entertainer hadn't been there... but maybe I would have been rifle/ranger, tho I would probably have quit with the CU unless it exceeds my expactions by a couple thousand percent...(sorry, had to rant on it some more)

Probably TKM with something (as im currently TKM + Master Entertainer/Master Musician ^^). I've always be fond of the (barehand) Martial Artist style =)

Would probably go as something hybrid like TKM + Ranger, with some medic skills (always useful ^^). Or have some fun with Creature Handling, probably not a crafting profession though.

I would likley have ended up a combat/Medic type character, I may have tried Squad Leader.

Hmm, in that hypothetical July I would probably played smuggler, medic or ranger. Especially smuggler sounded like a very interesting and starwarsy profession. But in the end, combat and crafting bores me to hell, so I would've quit about 2 months later (like the other MMOs I tried).

When a friend talked me into the SWG beta, I was immediately intrigued by the Entertainer professions. And thanks to the profession concept, I still could help out friends in the wilderness shooting things from time to time, to participate in the 'other' content. Now I just continue to play SWG until another MMO caters to the 'social playstyle,' or until I start taking dance lessons in RL (currently my base dance is broken and I don't know how to flourish).
