Thread: Poll: If you weren't a Musician...

Honestly, if the entertainer professions didn't exist, I'm not sure I'd go tailor. I am a tailor who mostly makes entertainer clothing. If that segment of the population weren't so into clothes, I doubt there would be much business at all.

So my answer is probably doc/healing line of CM/pistoleer in the new system and Doc/TK in the old system.

That one's easy because I only have to remember my very first character, which I started on Eclipse on July 4th, 2003 (I only went entertainer when the Chimaera server opened in November 2003).

My start date too

When I started I was looking at a couple of the "iconic" professions, Bounty Hunter and Smuggler. The first character I created was on Scylla and I chose BH first. While I was doing that I created a Smuggler on Wanderhome. I still have the Smuggler. I never got close to mastering Bounty Hunter. It was FAR too buggy back then. Just wasn't fun at all.

I did end up keeping the pistols for a while. Again for the "iconic" feel. There were plenty of pistol blasters in the movies. Basically I was trying to do what it said on the box - "to experience the greatest Star Wars Sage ever told - Yours". To "immerse yourself in Star Wars like never before". Yea well, never quite happened that way, but oh well.

Mesca Phost - Scylla - Rifleman/Ranger/Pilot
Crem Darkstrider - Wanderhome - Smuggler/TK/Brawler/Pilot
Mesca' Phost - Bria - Grand Master Entertainer
(Master Ent/Music/Dance/ID)

Cancelled 7/27/05 - I joined to play Star Wars, not Jedi-BH Wars. You've ignored/gutted/abused just about every other profession in the game, while spending most of your time working on Jedi and BH as they related to Jedi. You've basically killed the game for anyone who doesn't want the glowstick. Congratulations.

I don't know if I qualify for this poll.

Scout! My wookiee had long legs and she wanted to run! Eventualy I realized wookiees never do anything but lumber so I created a Bothan on another server. Their legs move really fast!

Ok, more seriously, if Musician had never been in the game I probably would not have been tempted into trying the Entertainer professions. Musicians are cool. 8) It didn't seem right dancing when there was no music - though music without dancing worked fine. Since going to the Cantina Crawls and seeing what dancer is really capable of I've started a Dancer/Swordswoman, but I never would have went there without Musician.

Instead of Musician I probably wuld have went Doctor to try something different.

8) <---- How do I make that into a sunglass smiley??

Cool! Thanks Panthu!

Welll I think I would have gone Scout / then on to Creature Handaler. I had Entertainer as my starting Prof because I wanted to do something diffrent from the majority of players, to be honist I was suprised at how many other Entertainers there where.

Would I still be a scout now maybe but I wish to try all the profesions at some point and Music will be droped soon ( Sad day though ) to try out something else.

I probably would be doing scout/ranger. It seemed like something different besides the traditional fighter/healer roles, and crafting sounded boring.

That's easy...sort of.

I'd be a Chef/Combat Medic or maybe I'd just be a Chef...I love making food, its a lot of fun and is the only reason that I got a second account. A little combat is nice but the system is so broken its not worth investing all your points in it...and seeing as how entertainer takes a lot of them you can do 2 other professions.

Well, as I have two characters, and the ent char was my second one, I would have done what I did and gotten 4441 Artisan/Master Architect/Master Tailor/Master Merchant. Now if I had to pick profs for another character, they would have ended up being Master Bio-Engineerand however much of Pistoleer I could get. (which is what I almost did anyway)

What I would hope to get out of my experience is what I always want out of it: to have fun.

So before anyone even tries to go off the deep end, this poll is not *in any way* based on some kind of extra knowledge I have, or anything like that. I have *not* been told anything even remotely indicating that we are being removed from the game. I'm simply trying to get an ever closer idea of how we think, what we want, who we are. No claims of "he's asking us what we want to do instead, they're removing Musician!" ok?

Hypothetical: It's July 2003, and Star Wars Galaxies is released. You are given a 3 month subscription by a friend/family member/hobo as a gift. In this alternate reality, the entertainer professions do not exist.

What professsion(s) would you play during your 3 month free period, and what would you hope to get out of your play experience?

As always, feel free to elaborate as much as you want on your answers.

I would of done what my first character did on Intrepid. I was a TKA, Master Artisan and grinding crafting now and then for Droid Engineer. I would hope to get the feel of Star Wars out of my experience.

If they're were no musicians,I would have probably quit galaxies since playing with a band outside coronet starport is at least 10 times more fun than combat. Then I would have slapped the hobo who gave me the subscription.

My first choice of character in this game was a crafter, and it would likely stay the same in this hypothetical situation. I decided to try the entertainer professions after seeing a friend play a dancer. With no entertainers in the game, I likely never would have missed them. I still likely would have gone Doctor, though, especially if it had always been as it will be post-CU.

On the other hand, what I like to get out of my game would be the same either way. I've played crafters, healers or buffers in every MMORPG I've played thus far. I like helping people, providing some kind of service. And, if I get to chat and meet new people in the process, all the better.

Fun question, can I answer as a dancer since Panthu got to?

Well, I like variety, and I couldn't completely stay away from combat because I find it enjoyable. So, I would have taken one elite combat profession. And, since I did that in the "real" game as well, I'm sure it would've been the same, which was TKM. It's a distinct possibility I would have done the TKM/Smuggler/Pistoleer thing because the skill points worked out so well. I know a lot of smugglers don't like the whole spice thing, but I enjoyed crafting spice (I did dabble in smuggler at one point but realized it wasn't worth much if I couldn't master it.) And, the spicing, slicing, faction selling, etc. would have given me a good variety of things to dosuch as fight, craft, providea service,be a"businessman," etc. And, smuggling is good for RP like dancer is. So, that is definitely a strong possibility.

If I didn't do that, however, chances are I would've done TKM/Doctor/Medic.

Basically, what I would have gotten out of these two templates has mostly to do with having a strong variety in my template because I like doing a lot of different things. The fighting helps me feel like a l33t uber d00d. And the smuggling or doctor would help me to provide a valuable "service."

So...basically, I would have chosen those two templates for the exact same reasons I became a dancer. What are the odds? The only thing I wouldn't be able to do is perform.
