Thread: If I see one more Holo Musician Im going to puke!
Last night I was logged on and to my surprise a friend which I met on launch day logged on.. Since I have not seen her since August I had to give her a tell and ask where she's been.. College had taken up almost all her time, plus family, which is completely understandable.. I asked where she was, and she replied, "I'm in Theed as aspected".. She too was an inspiring musician, and was trying to get into a large group to gain experience quickly.. I desided to take a hop over to Theed to see her and chat for a few in the Theed Cantina.. Little did I know I would be walking into a "holo-AFK" craze..
OMG, this was insane. I've read about this on the boards, but I stay away from heavily populated areas and never witnessed this first hand, until last night.. A group of 20 people in Theed and only 8 were pure entertainers by choice.. OF the 12 that were AFK in the group, 8 of them were only doing it because the holocron told them too.. This is just insane that this holocron frenzy has completely turned many professions upside down.. It scews the numbers that SOE looks at for demographic numbers and for crafters, it's debatable that it messes up some of the economy as well..
There has to be another alternative to do the Jedi questing without it effecting professions and the player base..
I was in the Coronet cantina twice last week for some reason, usually I avoid this place like a plague. Anyway..
Of course lots of afk entertainers but the most disgusting thing: group leaders deny to kick afk bots when atk entertainers ask for an invite (no, it wasn't me asking). And backup from other macro/holotainers because 'we all go afk, we don't want to be booted'. My /ignore list is longer now.
'Afk-tainers don't hurt others'... oh, sure. /puke

I don't understand why you have to learn dancing, music or entertainer to become a Jedi. I honestly don't, I've never seen or read about a dancing Jedi or Luke singing or Yoda playing a Nalargon.

First I would like to say that I feel your pain however, only partially. I am one of those holo-musicians with 70k healing exp left and take some offense to what you are saying. I know that I have been working my tail off to get master musician. I know that I have primarily remained behind the keyboard when in "those groups." I also know that I have yet to hear an entertainer in game complain about the AFKers and the extra experience their presence in the group contributes.
I will say that I do have a problem with the overall attitude in the big cantinas. It is not fun to go there at all. Primarily my anger stems from the leaders not allowing "live" musicians to join the group. It's not like the guy who has been afk for 12 hours is going to notice when you boot him, since he is going to have 12 more hours of spam he would need to weed through to discover that he was booted.
Now, I have gone to other cantinas for my exp and have done pretty well buffing people and getting my musician experience. However, I have found that everyone on my server that has mind wounds and BF comes to the corella cantina from the outlying planets. So my delemna has become that in order to get the insanely slow (now) healing exp, I must go to the big cantinas where I don't have fun. THIS makes me dislike musician, which in all reality is a pretty interesting class and can be very fun socially.
Last, you can complain all you want about them, but they will not go away as long as the holos keep rolling musician. I said it somewhere else on this board: Learn to ignore what you don't like and enjoy your toon as you want to. This is not the preferred option, it is just the only one.
Well i didn't want to be a musician, and cannot stand the fact that my holocrons gave me Master Entertainer and Master Musician back to back. I will give up musician as soon as possible, but i need some assistance in one area.I am mainly a macro'er musician, I am nearby my keyboard so i do respond to tells and such but do not sit and watch my toon play tunes, ok?
What is the 'selectDraftSchematicXX' for the Fanfar instrument, i have tried a bunch and cannot get the right one? I find out this number and i will finish musician in a few days as opposed to weeks. The sooner i drop musician, that will be one less macro'er you guys have to deal with.
I have read your posts and i understand that a lot of you do not like macro'ers or afk holo-musicians, well i might get flamed, but i am only looking for a bit of information which will serve you and me both.
Check out the artisan professions... I think they will tell you how to do the "selectblahblahblah" to get your crafting macro working.
And LordJeff, their problem with holo-musicians is not that they come and leave, it is that as soon as you leave there will be 2 more to replace you.
you should not take offense, as usual there are 'good' and 'bad' people playing every class in this game and if you complain about the attitude in big cantinas... well looks like a 'good' guy from over here :-)
Part of the problem is of course, nobody will notice people grinding their way to most other classes. Buy minerals worth 2 millions and be master $crafter in 6 hours. Kill 586345 mobs and be master in an elite combat class in few days. Nobody else is involved. But to reach master in an entertaining class, you are forced to group with others and there are still people out there who want to *play* this classes and must live with them.
The first wave of holocrazies was of course the type '133t power gamer', they don't care for anything but their progress and will gladly kick anyone from behind if they see an advantage (for example prefer to group other afk'ers, they will not leave and therefore maximize the exp and they won't boot other afk'ers).
They handle the large cantinas like a spawn point of rare mobs (wounded people) and camp them day in day out. It is part 2 of the ninja looting, kill stealing and general rudeness happening at the holo drop spot.
We already had a problem with macrotainers but things are just insane right now. Thank you SOE. Not.

Here's a random comment from a (ex)marksman correspondent:
I'm assuming you're an Entertainer of some sort that got a holocron and told you to master Marksman.
Heh, entertainer = Macrotainer now ?
I'm one of those "Holocron Musicians," and I'll tell you it hasn't exactly been a picnic for me, either. First of all, I have been at my keyboard for most of it. 2nd of all, I've already done musician with an alternate character, so, yes, I'm doing a profession for the 2nd time. I think in my case it's okay to macro.
1) EVERY entertainer at some point that I have seen has gone /afk for extended periods of time. If you claim you haven't you are a rare exception to this rule.
2) I've met a lot of nice folks who are working the entertainment professions and they've all been very helpful. However, there are those few who still call themselves "real entertainers" yet go /afk and leave the rest of the cantina with "Give me tips and heal me" spam. I actually got cursed out yesterday when I asked someone to stop their spam. This has happened in every cantina I've been in since I picked up a slitherhorn. (For the record, I have NEVER given a tip to any entertainer was was /afk and spamming to tip them. Just poor form there.)
3) Every time I've gone afk I had the courtesy to move to the back of the group or into a side room and told the group leader it was okay to boot me if the space was needed.
Given #2 and #3, it really sounds like I'm the least of this classes' problems, though I've seen plenty of bad Holocron Entertainers around. You can blame us for some of the entertainer class problems, but we're only a small part of the bigger picture.
I like this class and my alternate character is still a musician (probably won't log that character on for awhile after this though).
This is my first visit to these boards and sadly, this is the first topic that I've read. You see, my holocron told me to master musician to further my quest and frankly, that's what I intend to do.
Perhaps you "real" entertainers could give a guy like me some tips as to how to integrate into your cantinas w/o disturbing your flow.
