Ok, /agree, maybe not mystical bards... but something productive. As it is, unless a musician also has a combat prof, they are at best a burden to be protected until the mind buffs wear off. It would be nice if entertainers were sought after by combat profs as a valuable addition to the team.

Improve our worth to combatants - make us more than the Buff-Bot-Stop-Shop.
1) Please allow Musicians and Dancers to heal BF in camps.
2) Please give Musicians and Dancers something that will help combatants more than every couple of hours.

The Devs stated from the beginning that they didn't want us to be the 'bards' of SWG. Although, it's been proven that music can embolden and intimidate (try watching your favorite scary movie without sound), I can't see them ever allowing us to play for mini-buffs/debuffs. Rather, they gave that job to Squadleaders.
However, each player SHOULD bring something to the group. Even a passive bonus to the group (much like the increase to XP and mission difficulty when grouped). For example, Entertainers could provide a passive resistance to mind wounds and damage, or even a slight regeneration boost, when in range.
I like your ideas, though. Would be the combination of SL and Ent... Hmm... we at times lead our orchestra/instrument section/dance troupe... we embolden the spirit, much like mascots (though I refuse to dress in the beaver suit)... It would make sense if the two professions crossed over. Much like doc and CM share many similarities.
1) Stop the AFK and buffbots, for the love of God. It's out of hand and an emergency. Case closed. Do it. Now.
2) Let patrons and Entertainers see when a buff is applied (if just a System Message). Musicians get buffs ripped off too easily right now.
3) I agree with Durney - commitment from the developers to set a firm number as to an amount of new songs/instruments ( Songs in particular ) to be added per year. ( 2-6?). No excuses, a SOLID and FIRM agreement.
4) Fix /register! Pleeeeeease! Do it, already!
5) Make an Entertainer a respected member of the game community again. I'm tired of being treated like a useless waste of pixels and I'm tired of being ignored for the sake of someone running a stupid macro.
