Thread: Master Musician or Master Entertainer?

Well, sometime in the future I plan on starting up a new character. He will be both a crafter and an entertainer. I've pretty much worked out what I want to have from the artisan lines. But, now I'm faced with a dilemma. If I take everything I want from the crafting side of things, I will not have enough skill points to master both entertainer and musician. So, I thought I'd take a poll and see what everyone thought.

To me, the pros of being Master Musician: Full Buffs, Nalargon, Virtuoso, and 5 skillpoints left over.

The pros of being a Master Entertainer: Mandovial, Ceremonial.

On the surface, it appears that master musician has more pros. The five extra skill points could be nice to fiddle around with, but I don't need them. Also, the full buffs would be an asset for other people, not for me. Although, I do get some satisfaction from helping others in this way. Except for briefly during a blue frog period in TC, I have never gone above Knowledge III on any of my characters. So, I really never had the Nalargon or Virtuoso long enough to feel like I'd miss it. Although, Drygo does have Master Entertainer, and I love the Mandovial. Thinking about it, I am leaning towards Master Musician, but I think I would dearly miss being able to play the mandovial.

So, this is the poll. If you had to pick one and only one, which would it be? Master Musician or Master Entertainer? Also, are there any Master Musicians out there who don't have Master Entertainer, and how do you feel about not having the mando? Do you miss it or feel somewhat unfulfilled because you can't play every instrument and every song? Please feel free to add any comments you may have as well. Thanks!

I can confidently tell you that I tend to have much more fun playing the mando in a pick-up band than I do buffing combat players who rarely remain at the keyboard in the cantina and only tip half the time So, to me, it would simply fall back on your instrument of choice. Targeting issues with the Nal and Omni Box would probably push me toward Master Entertainer.

I would have to say ME, because the Nal is nice and all...but I think virtuoso is a horrible song, and the nal doesn't sound as good on as many songs as the mandovial. And of course western rocks with the mandovial. Besides, less people play a mandovial than play a nal, so a good chance you'll always be a good accessory to a band. And there is still a better chance that you can play ceremonial in a band than virtuoso.

Course, it really most depends on what you think would be more fun. I personally mastered Entertainer, and with remaining skill points got up to Musical Knowledge 3 to be able to play more songs. Though I am still deeply tempted to just drop all this combat nonsense and master Musician as well, and get back there and tickle some ivories (or whatever the big key-lookin' things on Nalargons are made of). I probably will at some point.

To be technical....either ferrous metal or aluminum.

I'd vote for ME also. For mando. You can always get nal tracks on a droid and you only need nov music to program the tracks...you can use /startband and /bandflo at any level.

I did a lot of juggling last year while poking around at different crafting profs. I've learned my lesson with it. I'm just not happy without a mando in my hands.

Only prob with being just a master entertainer is if you are in a RP band, and the rest of the band wants to play songs from the music knowledge branch. Of course, you can just dance with your mando during those songs.

This is a tough choice. I think occasionally of giving up MM (although I'd have to find someone to take over the cantina). I play in a band (The Kreetles), and we *never* play virtuoso. However, we only rarely play ceremonial. I love the Nalargon and the Mandoviol equally, but there's always a spot in the band for another horn or drum player.

What race are you? The ID tree of entertainer sucks for wookiees.

I would have to say I'm staying at ME and MM, enough Scout to keep /maskscent, and as much of Rifleman as I can get with the remaining points.

Well, If I went for Master Entertainer,I would still have musician skills, just not Master Musician. I'd have up through Knowledge IV, and Techniques IV. The only performance skills I wouldn't have is the Nalargon and Virtuoso. My healing wouldn't be as good, but I don't really care about that. I'd still be able to give a 75% buff, which people are generally thankful for. I know I gladly take a 75% buff when there are no other live musicians.

Someone else asked what race I was going to be...at this point, I think I'm going to be Ithorian. But, you bring up a good point...I'm wondering if Ithorians have the same problem as Wookiees. I may just temporarily create an Ithorian tonight and see if I have ID options.

As for everyone else, I appreciate all the good advice. Master Entertainer seems to be the profession of choice of the two. Is there anyone who would choose Master Musician over Master Entertainer?

All thoughts still appreciated either/or.

Oh, then I'd definitely say ME with xx4x musician over MM if you have to make a choice. Without the xx4x musician, it'd be tougher for me, because of the lack of songs - but ceremonial and mandoviol >> virtuoso and nalargon, easily.

It's been 1 years and 4 months now that i'm master musician / master entertainer and i must say that i play mando more then nalargon. Although, the western song is pretty great compare to what you hear those day in the cantina. So it make it a though choice. But well i would say master entertainer so you won,t get to buff everyone showing up.
