Thread: Master Musician or Master Entertainer?

Honestly, I'd go with what the other folks here are saying. If you're not going to be doing Musician for the healing/buffing benefits, but rather to play with other folks or for your own enjoyment, do Master Entertainer/Musician Composer. Heck...I'd say go with Novice ID after that, and make some cash on the side doing stat migrations. If that'd drive you nuts to get to, I'd say take the Tech line to be able to do at least a 75% buff, the lighting effects and make instruments. But without a doubt, if you're after playing for enjoyment versus buffing/healing perks, do ME/Composer. Until the whole buffing thing came about, that's all I ever wanted to be.

Only prob with being just a master entertainer is if you are in a RP band, and the rest of the band wants to play songs from the music knowledge branch. Of course, you can just dance with your mando during those songs.

Well, If I went for Master Entertainer,I would still have musician skills, just not Master Musician. I'd have up through Knowledge IV, and Techniques IV. The only performance skills I wouldn't have is the Nalargon and Virtuoso. My healing wouldn't be as good, but I don't really care about that. I'd still be able to give a 75% buff, which people are generally thankful for. I know I gladly take a 75% buff when there are no other live musicians.

Someone else asked what race I was going to be...at this point, I think I'm going to be Ithorian. But, you bring up a good point...I'm wondering if Ithorians have the same problem as Wookiees. I may just temporarily create an Ithorian tonight and see if I have ID options.

As for everyone else, I appreciate all the good advice. Master Entertainer seems to be the profession of choice of the two. Is there anyone who would choose Master Musician over Master Entertainer?

All thoughts still appreciated either/or.

In that case, definitely go Master Entertainer. I was assuming skill points were at a premium.

Topics like this really divide my feelings about musician. I LOVE playing my Nalargon, much more than playing the other instruments and would highly recommend MM to anyone, but given a choice between ME or MM, now that is tough. Personaly I really couldn't live with my Nalargon or the Mandovial. I could happily live without virtuoso as it is pants. It's a tough choice, but if you haven't got the skill points then ME with xx4x Musician would be a good option.
Depends on you though, like I said, my Nalargon is my identity, it what i play - all the time.

I'm in favor of removing all starting proffessions and dividing things between master proffessions.

It always came to me weird a MASTER musician can not play an instrument or song. No offense entertainers but ID &dance (as a musician)part always came "wasted" skill points to me just for an instrument, I would not change my skill points. "you can always program your droid with mandoviol or get it programmed"

I may be an entertainer (as musician) but not dedicated my all skill points to full entertainer proffessions. Because this game has much more things to see beside cantinas...

And yes, there are Force Sensitive Entertainers that are master entertainer, master dancer and master musician at same time that are killed by weakest thugs entering into cantinas where "even force" cant save them...

Do you realise how sad to burry R.A of Intrepid (PRE-PUB9 Jedi), S.A of Infinity (POST-PUB9 Jedi) | .. and nameless 18 other living breathing characters?

i must really apologize for interupting this thread and somewhat hijacking it.

is it disturbing to anybody else that master entertainer is more desirable than a master musician from the point of view of wanting to play music?

now to return to the thread topic, mando + ceremonial > nala + virtuoso

Who wants to play jeepers creepers anyways?

I really appreciate all these responses. At first I was leaning towards Master Musician. In a roundabout way, what Dina said brings to mind the fact that for me, Master Musician would be mostly a status thing. I'd like my new character to be known as a Master Musician. And, there's part of me that really does like playing the "support" role, and I'd like to be able to buff people at 100%. There seems to be so few live buffing musicians, and I wanted to help out my friends and strangers by being able to give that to them. Yet, the reality is, Master Entertainer seems to be a more desirable mastery for performances.

But, the more I think about it, I care less about the buffing thing. I mean, until the buffbots are gone and entertainers can buff themselves (which could very well be never), it's hard to justify all the skill points sometimes. Drygo is a Master Dancer and Master Entertainer and Teras Kasi Master. I really only ever felt that I needed one elite combat profession, which left me free to take up ME and MD, and go up to Knowledge III in Music.

But, with my new character, I have been itching to do some crafting. And, in order to be the kind of crafter I want to be, I not only need one elite crafting profession, but I also want to get some merchant, and do some surveying. I simply can't afford to spend such an inordinate amount of points to master both entertainer and musician and get back so little personal benefit in game mechanics.

I know that it's been kind of a debate for a long time...should Master Entertainer have something very desirable? Sure. But, I hate the fact that one of the best instruments requires ME. I'd rather ME have some other highly desirable skill instead of forcing a true 100% musician who has all the songs and instruments to be ME. I was always glad I didn't have to do that for dance, even though I eventually chose to do so anyway.

But, I think you guys have convinced me to go Master Entertainer. After playing mando on Drygo, I'd find it extremely difficult to not have it on my musician character. And, I'll still be able to go all the way up knowledge and techniques on musician. The only performance thing I'll be lacking is the nala and virtuoso. And, I do like the idea of having some dance moves on my new character as well from the entertainer trees.

At any rate, I have a while to wait till I get that second character, so I could very well change my mind again. But, I do appreciate all the advice.
