Ok... first off forgive mefor a) making another random curiosity post and b) giving it such a puerile title...
Now... am I the only one who doesn't confine my playing to the cantina? Seems to me that Galaxies involves a lot of waiting... buff queues, starports... stuff like that. Being a musician has made these things far more bearable, simply because.. it gives you something to do.
I mention this now because I'm still on a high from playing whilst waiting for the shuttle in coronet last night. By the time it arrived... I had an impressive crowd gathered round, /emoting applauds and cheers, leaving a nice space around me (I do kind of like the attention, I admit...). I loved it so much I /hugged the Imp who /spat at me and everything.
Do others do this? Had any particuarly good experiences through it? I guess I loved it because there was no purpose other than to entertain... people couldn't heal themselves by listening, they did it beause they wanted to....

It's standard for me to pull out Miles (my bandfill droid) and my mandoviol at starport waits. I tend to get more attention at the Mining Outpost on Dantooine than at other starports for some reason
.
One of my favorites is when in line for doctor buffs. (On Tempest, we form actual lines leading up to the doctor. I don't know if this is commonplace elsewhere, but someone posted in the Tempest forum saying it's the first time he'd seen it on any server, so I thought I'd share just in case we're unique.. but I doubt we are
). It's fun when you see someone maybe 3 people back start clapping
. One time doing this, the line had gotten so big that when I received a /tell from someone asking what song I was playing, I couldn't see the person way back in line. But he asked to join with me and jam in line, and that was quite fun
.
But really, any time I'm in one place and not doing something else, I'm liable to start my music. It's an awesome thing to be able to do!

Yea, pretty much any time I'm waiting for something (be that starport or just waiting on a friend to show up) I'll whip out my horn and start playing waltz usually (I just like that song on a solo horn, with maybe my droid on bandfill for some beat). If there's a bit of a crowd I usually say something to the effect of playing to help pass the time, hope you enjoy the music and I start playing requests. I usually get quite a few people listening, and sometimes even a /tip or two (rare occasions though).

I like to do them at weird places I find as I travel around. Take a little screen if it and all. Rather fun to do.

I roleplay my wookiee as a Gypsy / wandering musician. You'll not find me in the same cantina for more than one session. Often you won't find me in any cantina fora stretch of days. If I am running through a jungle or desert crawling and happen along a few friends chatting it up? Always ask if they want some tunes...just because.
I doubt you'll find many musicians or dancers whom have been one for very long without discovering there is a life for entertainers outside the drab walls of Bestine or Theed or Coronet Cantina.

Heh, I usually bum around Theed cantina or my own cantina out on Corellia when not doing events.
However, every now and then I go set up at the Theed Spaceport. I play Ceremonial with my mandovial and my droid on the drums. I usually draw quite a crowd

Try the mando with star wars 1. A totally different song then what most painfully recall and never again play.... Droid on bandfill you on mando. People truly love it. It is the most rock n' roll we get.

I always enjoy it when people invade the starport.
But here's how I'm nuts: I'll be out in the middle of Lok somewhere, all alone. Then Icome across some lone NPC I'm friendly with, and they're crying. So I just gotta whip out my bandfill and get down waltzin, baby. They start clapping and cheering, all happy now! When I finish, they just turn and start crying again. To make up for this insanity, when I go to kill mokk shaman, I always target the dancing one first.

I make it a point to always whip out my instrument when waiting at a port. I rarely don't have at least one person listening, and once got a 10,000c tip out of it. At the very least it will get out name recognition to those who don't hang out in cantinas as much as your regulars. I've even been recognised while playing in a starport (ahh, fame...you taste soooooo sweet!).

I get that quite a lot... but usually more in a 'that guy from the forums' way (I'm not quiet on the Chimeara forums...)

I can live much happier with a 4:59 wait at the starport. About time devs!

I often play or dance during shuttle waits, I also enjoy taking advantage of the Nalargons and the Boxes of Torment in front of the starports. Another great place is the fountain at the Theed Starport. (/emote loves watching noobs try to figure out how to get into the fountain)
I enjoy playing at the hotels too...they're a great location and far too few people use them. I would love to see a full hotel complete with Musicians, Dancers, gamblers, etc.
The main drawback to entertaining in these non-cantina venues is that you are bound to get a few comments to the effect of: What are you doing out of the cantina? Get back where you belong, we don't want you here.
