Well i rushed home zipped off to mos eisley theater with my master musician and... failed the audition immediately. Here's what happened...

I talked to the Manager then went to the stage. After waiting about 1 minute in painful silence and unable to talk to the judges i started playing a song, figuring they were waiting for me to start. As soon as i started playing the piped up and requested a song, a different song. Before i could stop and start another they failed me. Im guessing there was just lag that caused the delay in them speaking. But suffice it to say that you SHOULD NOT do anything till they instruct you to. Regardless how long they take to speak.

My fiance has a dancer and she went after my botched attempt. They requested a dance, she started it, they requested another dance, she stopped dance to start the new one, and failed. so im guessing you cant stop to start another, you have to transition to the next one maybe.

Anyhoot, i was pretty bummed after waiting so long to do this quest, but i guess its my own fault. Hehehe. No worries tho ill get it! I just wanted to help others avoid this hassle if possible.

Yup..you have to/change to a new song or dance. Don't stop! It appears that if you don't do what they request within 10 seconds you fail. Um..yeah..you know how long the delay is if you /stopm to change songs. This is the only thing that I have found the least bit amusing today.

Don't stop, use /changemusic or /changedance.

Even better...set up buttons to change to the various songs or dances. It saves time greatly when you don't have to type

"/change ceremonial" or "/change starwars3" or "/change virtuoso"....."/change jazz" isn't so bad.

I made aliases instead of cluttering another toolbar, or making macros that could get nuked. (alias.txt is copied away somewhere safe for me)

/alias cere /changemusic ceremonial

now its just /cere, /sw1, /sw2, /sw3, /jazz, etc.

PS this is gonna sound mean, but if you didnt know how to change music, you probably deserved to fail the audition. "Um errrr, yes I have my sheet music for Jazz right here.... *flutter, fumble* oh err sorry one sec....ahh ready now.... HUH? what do you mean come back tomorrow?"

After I did the quest for the music the manager will say that while there are no more musician gigs open there are ones for dancers.

Psibunny - Yeeees i knew how to use /change songs (pretty basic command there buddy), i just didnt know that it "had" to be used in that situation to not fail. At no time did they say "And please -DONT- stop playing when changing songs". But now i know. 8)

The time gate for trying the entertainer quest is interesting tho. Im not sure why they are being so harsh just to the ents. 24 hours to re-attempt AND we have to pay 400k xp for the reward. I could run into and out of the DWB, NS or Geo cave at will and use pretty much anything i found (cert withstanding) without any XP 'fees'.

What exactly do the devs fear about entertainers that warrants such a tight lockdown on us. What is it that we dont know?....Hmmm. Makes ya wonder.

I cant wait to get home and give the audition another whirl tho!

As I mentioned in the dancer forum, the 24 hour requirement appears to me to be a method of making us feel like these quests have some meat to them. In the case that you fail, the 'quest' extends a full day, and you could get tricked into thinking they take a long time and a lot of effort to complete.

My thought on the 24-hour rule was they might have assumed that dozens of entertainers would be lining up at the Manager, and it was a way of forcing us to take turns and weed out the crowd.

Of course, not even announcing the quests has a similar effect.

I think Aleyo is probably right about the purpose for the 24-hour wait. It's mildly annoying, but I can live with it. I didn't fail the quests on TC, so I didn't get to experience the joy of the day-long wait.

On the XP requirement, the devs are well aware that most (though not all) Musicians and Dancers strongly oppose it. My sense, however,is that they see new XP requirements as a model for late-game content for all elite professions, not just Musicians and Dancers. We're already seeing a similar model with the FS quests for aspiring Jedi: first you do a quest to unlock the right to expend gobs of XP to buy a skill. In general, the devssee XP requirements as one way to keep people playing.

Wouldn't ya know that the quests would finally hit Live when I'm under a huge crunch at work. I've barely had time to log on to say hi to my player city this week.
