As far as I'm concerened, the real problem is that the devs ever allowed any resource to show up in the ground with stats over 800, especially in the unlimited quantities that the current harvesting system allows. There wouldn't be millions of units of near-perfect resources warehoused everywhere if the resources became depleted as they were mined out like they did in the original implementation.
I've always been surprised that resource veins are based on time and not extraction. It seems to me like a perfect way to deal with this would've been to have a 100% vein carry, say, 1 million units of the material. You plop a harv on it and extract 500,000, there are 500,000 left for the next guy. And so on. This would've limited things more than the way they do it now, and the idea of people having 10 million 100 OQ resources would just not even be an issue.

~ So are you now only able to buff 1 person at a time? If so, then cantina's are going to become like the old doctor lines. "Now buffing so and so, form a line and step forward when its your turn". I don't really like the idea of huge lines forming in a cantina....
I haven't yet tested it personally, but the report is that an entertainer can buff multiple people as long as they are all getting the same buff.
~ Do you now only getany kind of buff if the entertainer specifically buffs you?Meaning are you still going to be able to just /listen to an entertainer and get the general buff (like you can right now), and have them select the buff if you want a different one? Or are they going to have to select a type of buff on each person (either one at a time for multiples)
The general buff should still be passive. For all of the profession specific buffs, the entertainer has to target you and make a choice off of a menu.
~ Is there absolutely no way to get a buff from an AFK entertainer? I hate AFK'ers of any sort, but there are times when there are very few live entertainers around. I don't like the idea of searching through 10 cantinas just to find someone to buff me when I want to craft. Maybe the patch will bring entertainers back to the keyboard though, so it may not be a problem so much

Time to clear up misconceptions while answering your questions:
- You can buff multiple people, in fact it seems you can buff an infinite number of people (I haven't tested it, but there's nothing in the mechanics that shows any limit). Obviously you can only give your attention to one person at a time, but all you need to do per person is pick their buff for them and then you can move on to someone else.
- You get the general buff by listening to any entertainer without them having to do anything for you. If you want any other buff than the "general" buff, the entertainer has to select it for you. If there are multiple people around, the entertainer can select one buff for one person, select another buff for another person, etc. without affecting any of the buffs already chosen.
- You can't get any but the "general" buff from an AFK entertainer that is playing legally (i.e. not using 3rd party tools, which go against the EULA).
An example situation.
Alice - the Musician
Bob - the Armorsmith
Charlie - the Bounty Hunter
Dave - the Weaponsmith
Earl - the Architect
Alice is playing music in the cantina.
Bob, Charlie, and Dave show up together, and they all start listening to Alice.
Bob says, "Hey Alice, can I get an Armorsmith buff please?"
Before Bob is finished speaking, Dave says "Hi Alice, I'd like to pay for a Weaponsmith buff please."
Alice targets Bob, does the /inspire command, and selects "Armorsmith" from the list of buffs, then clicks ok.
Alice then targets Dave, does the /inspire command, and selects "Weaponsmith" from the list of buffs, then clicks ok.
Alice asks "Did you need a specific buff, Charlie?"
Charlie answers "No thanks, I just need the general one."
They all keep listening.
Earl enters, and Alice says "Hi Earl, back for another Architect buff?"
Earl nods, and Alice targets Earl, does the /inspire command, and selects "Architect" from the list of buffs, then clicks ok.
Everyone is listening to Alice jam on her bandfill, and everyone is getting the buff they want. Alice's choosing the different buffs for different people does not affect the previous choices.
So, do we know yet what happens when you have a profession buff active and you listen casually to a musician? Does the general buff overwrite the profession buff?
Don't want to travel to 10 cantinas? Then don't! The point behind having ATK entertainers is that they can move. I know it's tough to think of it in those terms after so many months of having the mind buff dispensor bolted into place but it's time to FREE YOUR MIND from that old school notion. I know many entertainers who would be happy to travel to your city. Check your server, does it have an entertainer chat channel? Add a few entertainers to your friends list and contact them when you are ready or nearing readiness. Use the planetary maps to see if the cantina close to you has someone registered. There are plenty of alternatives to having to travel to cantinas.

Yes, a new buff starts, which is by default the general buff until the musician should choose another buff for them.
I've already raised concerns about the lack of ability to listen to musicians for their performance without interfering with the inspiration. I'm told the concerns have been passed along, but I don't know anything yet about what might be done about it.
I have just read thru and am a little confused over the buff method ( I have not been able to find 2 players to buff at once on TC so can't check myself)
can someone confirm that if I start a specific buff I then can move onto the next player to select a different profession specific buff without waiting for the first one to max duration

That is correct, you can do that.
I don't really want to go into specifics here as it will only encourage the zombies but if they are able to either use this chair/targeting macro or run a target leader macro i think we will be in the same boat with zombie player cantinas and lifeless corpses cluttering up npc city cantinas that we was with mind buffs
