What if jukeboxes and musicians were integrated?
Say someone buys a jukebox for 8 hours. That jukebox can play the background music with noises and effects that aren't given to musicians.
Then a group of musicians (maybe a full group) can group with the jukebox and fill in the melody.
The songs would sound like the songs on the jukebox we have nowbut would be coming from the musicians.

Well, first of all, nice suggestions before, new songs, craftable jukebox loaded up by recorded discs..
And I think Drygo is right thinking aboutthese recorded discs depending on skills and appearing instruments...
But, I'm still wondering why the jukebx should be changed to a craftable item.
Why not changing it to a quest reward, but an only-entertainer quest again!
The problem of our prof is that people aren't listening to the music anymore,
cause even Western became boring to most of them..
Only solution in my opinion is:
1. more songs (I'm repeating i know :smileytongue
A tailor/architect/chef etc. has a wider variety of craftable items, what about our crafting (performing songs)?
It has to stay exciting, entertaining is to amuse someone, not to makesomeone bored..
Entertainment is a fast changing branch, watch it in RL, but in SWG its stagnation..
2.people have to listen to us again
Why not changing the jukebox to an entertainer quest reward.. with one important detail, the entertained people counter!
Everymaster musician would get a jukebox when he/she's starting the quest and entertained 20 people f.e.. then it's placed in her/his inventory, able to trade, recordable and possible to install for a longer period than the jukeboxes sold by the promoters (maybe 2 days)..
That would effect that the people could go to a promoter for getting a jukebox with shorter appearence time, while wemusicians could even offer them jukeboxes at lower prizes, butmeanwhileentertaining people again..
Well, if crafters should be engaged in this, then think about a jukebox draft schematic for quest reward.
3. unable to turnplayer music volume off or always player music in backgroundof cantinas
So nobody can hear the cool SWG sounds like in combat or vehicle sound and, at the same time, ignore the musicians sounds..
Or, might be even better, a change from being forced to /startlisten to hear a musician's sounds, just entry a cantina and hear the music. If there's more than one group in this cantina, you first have to decide which oneyou want to listen to..
And yes, the jukebox is no danger for any live entertainer, because all our fans, especcially role players, like to have an interactive band, changing sounds, visual musicians, synchronized dances and effects..
But well, it's just annoying if you have to accept a machine which can do some parts better than a living and skilled musician.

Sorry for barging into your board, I know I'm just a rotten Smuggler and all.
But I couldn't help but read... guess I'm a bit nosey (or bored).
Anyhow, I can see what you're all saying about the jukebox, but need I remind you it's a stupid object that does nothing more then play a few tunes to anyone who walks into a room? It doens't buff, it doens't heal wounds or BF, and there's only one or two tracks that sound any good at a party.I really don't see much to complain about.
Sure it plays music, but so do you. Yeah, the jukebox can play the Star Wars theme and the Lok music, but how many parties will you be hearing that music at? Musicians can play much better "party music" then this stupid machine can.
Not only that, but you do have things over this machine. Buffs, BF healing and mind wound healing. The jukebox can't do that, but you can.
The jukebox is a toy, a novelty, that has no other use then to bring some life into a room. Actually, the jukebox should be a permanent item so we can place it in shops, museums, whatever we want. This eight-hour crap is horrible. Yeah, it's better then Musicians in that sense... how many of you would want to stand in a shop and play music 24/7? None of you.
I put one into my Nova Cruiser and had it playing some music. It's there for no other reason then to add a nice feeling to the ship. Like hell I'm going to pay someone to come into my ship every time I go up just so I can hear some tunes will I pilot the ship. Not to mention that there wouldn't be anyone willing to do that for me.

I do agree that you should be able to craft music discs to play in the jukebox, the music that it has now. An Architect creates the machine, you create the music. That way you have a part in it. But even if not, you're not being replaced in any way, shape or form.
You're forgetting this is a machine that can't do anything but play music, like I said already. And you're live entertainment... actual moving, music-playing, dancing figures. Much better then a static machine that only sits in the corner and burps out some tunes. You are much better at a party because you're animated and you're more fun to watch.

But still you all talk about this like it's the end of the world. But, maybe it's because I'm a Smuggler, it's far from that. As a Smuggler, we have it quite a bit worse then all of you. Atleast you don't get nerfed in almost every publish. The Devs don't want to try to get rid of you.
It's pathetic to see you keep saying "the Devs never asked me this" and "the Devs never asked me that". Hell, we never asked the Devs to nerf our profession. So you're not alone. But this one stupid item isn't going to f*ck you over like you think it is. You're letting this stupid little machine bother you more then it should.
(Though I'm getting off my topic with the whole Smuggler thing.)
Anyhow, that's just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. You're not being replaced at all. But that's coming from someone who loves the jukeboxes and wants them as permanent items for his museums and Nova Cruiser. So don't take my word, you can't trust me.

Degwin,
You have a lot of valid points up in the first part of your post. The last part of your post, though, sounds a little insulting. See, the thing is, I used to be a smuggler. So, I have played smuggler and entertainers of all varieties. I completely agree with you that the smuggling profession is not doing well at all. You all need some serious help from the devs to make your game fun.
But, if you haven't been an entertainer, you can't really speak to the issues we face. While I agree that it's not the end of the world. The fact is, this is one more thing that makes us less useful. Just like the nerfing of Feign Death was one more thing that made you less useful. The feign death thing, in and of itself, was not the end of the world. It was feign death with all the other stuff combined with it. Similarly, this jukebox is something that makes us less in demand. And, in case you haven't noticed, there's the whole buffbot thing. People don't really need us anymore. You say we can buff and heal. But, the reality is, the vast majority of us are *never* asked to buff anymore because everyone uses their precious buffbots. Most of the time we are useless when it comes to buffing and healing because everybody knows they can always go to buffbots, and 99% of the people do, and they can get their buffs for free. We make zero money. Most of us are lucky if we can get 10K credits during an 8 hour play session in the Cantinas.
But, this isn't about buffbots. I just brought it up so that you can understand that the entertainer professions are in dire straights right now. And, this jukebox, like feign death, is just one more thing that makes us less useful.

What concerns, if any, do you have regarding the effect of the jukebox on the Musician profession?
It's the deathblow for the last non-afk-buffbot musicians.
It makes better music, it's cheaper (than a band of entertainers). *smirk*
And the last thing i can do with my Musician is performing at some player events.
And why does everyone get 30 new songs, while musicians got 1 (!) new song since release?
And it got really good songs, not like starwars1-"killing every enemy"...
Well Devs, it's really kind of you, to take care that everyone can get good music ingame... but sorry, didn't you make a profession for that?
Why dont you even make mind buffpacks for doctors? Oh you would loose all entertainer buffbots? What a pity.
It's really kind that all entertainer buffbots are more important than every entertainer player, but wait are there any non-buffbot-player left? Too less to care about, you successfully drove most of them away in december '03 with the holocrons for everyone.
Or why dont make some bugfixes on the entertainerprofession, would cost too much time? Let's make a jukebox, it's better and everyone will love it.
Make it a permanent item, then I can drop my musician without concerns, I will always have 30 (instead of 11) good songs to dance.
My proposal:
/delete_profession_musician (-> wouldn't concern anyone except the buffbots, we got no use left)
/sarcasm off
