Thread: Master Musician but missing Instrument
"Just prior to release, the devs created instrument certifications which is where the system got messed up to include the madoviolin being put in ME. This is about correcting a beta fix that did not get relooked at because of the beta ending before testing was properly done."
Are you suggesting that someone accidentally put mandoviol in master entertainer? What exactly would they have to test with reorganizing when/where people get instruments? Whether or not people are going to cry about it?
PPS - I'm not posting to persuade anyone in particular, but rather to have fun... but you do realize the devs don't look here and if you really want this to get looked at you are in the wrong forum, right?
All the music correspondent would do (whenever they pick someone) is email the devs and say that a couple people have been crying about not having this and that... so your points, if intended for the devs, will not been seen.

PS - Niklesnitz you are right, however it has nothing to do with being a master dancer that would be granting the instrument and song. By that logic, a master marksman who has taken ME could play a song/instrument that a master musician couldn't as well.
Roger that.
I am currently a Master Dancer and I am now going back to achieve Master Entertainer solely for the ability to use the Stringed Instrument.
One of the things I've found interesting is how much Master Entertainer is like a Geisha. Geisha must be versatile and entertaining for their clients. They must learn to play a stringed instrument called a shamisen (looks very similar to the mandovial, but doesn't sound like it).In addition to learning to play that, they must be proficient at arranging flowers, theater acting, dancing, entertaining clients, arranging their hair and outfits and applying their makeup.
So think of the Mandovial as just a unique instrument that Master Entertainers can use. I do hope they add another string-type instrument maybe with a different sound in Novice Musician line.

Okay, before I knew all about this Mandoviol thing I had a character build planned. I was going to be Master Musician/Master Squad Leader. It was kind of a role play idea, Squad Leader by day, Band Leader by night.
You can do that in 250 points if you only take from Entertainer what you need for Musician.
Then I found out about the Mandoviol and Ceremonial. I didn't particularly want to Dance. I genuinely didn't want to ID. And to pursue Master Entertainer would me no Squad Leader for me.
So I made my choice. Maybe we shouldn't have to make the choice but we do. And I sat and did an Artisan's hair over and over as he Sampled. And I danced for days. I gave up the idea of Squad Leader, I guess Pistoleer will have to do.
Today I got my Mandoviol, and I've only got one thing to say.
It was worth it.

Just got the Mandoviol and it rocks! Awesome. Something different. And ppl were asking me wat the hell was that. And the flourishes were pretty neat too. ![]()
I wanted to stay out of this thread because I dont have any major gripe about the way the songs and instruments are split up, but I notice that a huge number of the supporters of the current design cite the "carrot on a stick" that would make both dancers and musicians want to also have master entertainer under their belts. Ok, sure, but what about image designers? To be an elite musician you really need to also be a master entertainer, but to be an elite image designer all you need is one branch of entertanment trained not only is there no pot-of-gold lure, there is ZERO incentive for an image designer to be an even remotely competent entertainer. This seems like a disconnect in the logic flow.
Elite creature handlers dont need to be master scouts, but they DO at least get some viable skills if they chose to do so. If there is supposed to be some basis to elite professions in their prerequisite professions, image designers seem to get it the easiest of all (in regard to how many skill points they have remaining when they have become the best possible image designers compared to say: musicians, dancers, creature handlers, insert elite profession here...)

as a master musician and a master musician i would just like to let you all know that ceremonial on the nalargon ROCKS!
woo the first double master musician
As a male player who tries to roleplays a supposedly "cool" musician, I absolutely HATE being forced to dance and Image design to get that last song and instrument. As was stated here many times already It makes no sense at all that hair styling and dancing would lead me to learning a new song.
I find I'd rather lock myself in my house and dance in private then dance in the cantina so no one will see me doing those feminine, roleplay breaking dances. My character looks like a total loser.
I'm also forced to work my way up two skill trees I will NEVER again use the second I get that last song/instrument, and I'm totally throwing away valuable skill points in the process.
Why not just give that last song too BOTH Master Entertainers and Master Musicians? This way the carrot on the string would still be there for entertainers who'd like to play a cool instrument but don't want to train all the way up to Master Musician, but would leave those of us who don't want to bother with Image Design and Dace with the ability to also someday reach that final song and stringed instrument? What would be bad about that?
But let's say you want more instruments. Which would you rather spend skill points on: some Image Design skills that are vaguely useful (last night at ID4 I gained the ability to change eyebrow and freckle patterns, you have no idea how many people wanted that), or a bunch of advanced healing skills and the ability to make high-complexity instruments (meaning I need Artisan skills) in a market already glutted with them?
Back in Entertainer I healed 1-4 Battle Fatigue every cycle (which takes a couple seconds). At Novice Musician this jumped to 2-5. By buying Fatigue Healing 1 it's now more like 3-7. And that's solo! Someone who walks into a crowded cantina with a 10-man band with several hours of fatigue is STILL fully healed in under a minute. Wounds are even faster; with only Novice Musician I can heal 10 or so from each mental stat per cycle. So why spend valuable skill points to increase that rate further?
I'm more motivated to go Master Entertainer and only take the Music Knowledge chain in Musician than I am to go Master Musician. It takes less skill points and I get more out of it. So instead of saying "how come I have to learn hairstyling to play a Mandoviol?", the question should be "how come I have to learn healing skills to play a Nalargon?"
