"Instead of ruining the class for those who go AFK, we should all be encouraging SOE to MAKE THE FRIGGIN' CLASS MORE ENTERTAINING FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE ATK!!! Do that, and the AFK situation will fix itself."

More entertaining? They should?

Why aren't the ENTERTAINERS who are ATK trying to make it more entertaining?

I never needed to AFK during my working up the Musician tree all the way to Master - I entertained others. I played music, I did a bit of comedy here and there, I talked to them about their bad day out hunting, faction warring, and harvesting. I put a smile on their face or at least made their day a little more interesting or even better ENTERTAINED them.

When I say entertainers, I mean both dancers and musicians. This is OUR problem - a lot of people see us as only in the game to cure battle fatigue and cure mind wounds. On the contrary - WE help provide a lot of content!

WIthout Max Reebo and his band in Jabba's palace, would it have been the same place we all found so neat to watch? How about Figrin Dan and the Modal Nodes in Mos Eisley Cantina? What about Oola the Twilek dancing girl?

Putting up a AFK flag and then adding "psuedo-interactive" chat with /greet and other stuff like that is terrible to the atmosphere. WE help make atmosphere in the cantinas, theaters, and yes even hotels.

If there is any place we as a classin SWG should utterly rule in, it is not PVP - it is SOCIAL INTERACTION. We're the jetsetters, the slick guys and girls who wander into the party and fit in anywhere because we're just that cool. We are the ones who should have the entry choked friends list from past customers and people we've met. Our little black book, as it were.

Get out there and give them a real SHOW, people! C'mon, it's your class job!

/assist musicians and dancers

And to those who do:

/applaud

Please read this. I have gathered ideas from other forums, not sure if it was yours or not and added a suggestion to the dev suggestion post. This will affect you so I would like your opinions on it as entertainers.

Nobody has bothered to ask WHY people are afk.

Reason #1 - Entertainer Healing XP is incredibly hard to get. Imagine, if you will, that every class was required to have another character actively participate. Or even to actively have the environment participate. How many combatents would we have if instead of going out and attacking something, you had to go out to the middle of nowhere, and WAIT for something to attack you! Or the crafters simply don't get any xp except for useage xp.Better yet, an apples for apples comparrison - docs vs. entertainers. Make it so someone has to select"allow to heal" from the radial menu. How many master anythings would you see?My guess.. about 2.

Reason #2 - Mind wounds? Where? I don't see any mind wounds. Has anyone bothered to look at this? I can take my TKA out for say... 4 hours without getting any wounds healed. At the end of that 4 hours, not only are the mind stats the least damaged, usually, they are barely touched! Sure, I may have 100-200 bf, but that lasts about 4-5 minutes in front of even a novice musician.

Reason #3 - Honestly, sitting in a cantina waiting for someone to come along so I can interact with them, is VERY boring. Sure, I'll sit and play when i'm there and there's someone to play with, but waiting for the injured to come along is VERY boring. Combat classes are limited to basically any area that isn't a city. Crafters aren't limited at all. Doctors can't heal wounds (they can sure heal damage though) unless in a hospital, or if they have one of those nifty battery eating droids. Entertainers are tied to the cantina (camps if you have no interest in healing BF)

Reason #4 - Because unless you can buff, entertainers aren't really needed on group hunts. Anyone with novice entertainer can handle that for you.

Reason #5 - Because a holocron toldsomeone tomaster this proffesion thatthey don't want to do, but will do, because theylike what's dangling in front oftheir eyes. Enough said.

Reason #6 - Because people still watch and tip afk entertainers. I see so many AFK masters on my server it's pathetic. I mean come on! Who are you gonna listen to when you want that 500 bf healed? The master musician, or the novice? All you are doing is efffectively kill-stealing. Do us a favor, remove your tag, add a line that says "If there is someone who is actually here, please watch/listen to them"

Reason #7 - Because all of you masters have forgotten just how easy it was when you started. When I started (2 days after launch) i could get med xp and ent heal xp any time I wanted. People were always getting hurt, or better yet, killed (lol - did I say that?) Now, armor is great, people have pets to tank for them, and quite frankly, most people visit the cantina once every few days to get rid of that pesky 55 BF.

Reason #8 - Because (and this is a personal note) I got really tired of looking for an entertainer in some of the out of the way places. Such as talus, endor, lok, yavin.... So, as a sort of community service, I play, AFK, while I'm at work, and while I sleep in my player city on Lok. I do adhere to the "watch someone who's here" rule, and I sure don't ask for tips. But I don't want my fellow citizens having to fly to another planet because they need healing.

Reason #9 - Because you can! For those of you who are purists and think that you should only benefit while online and ATK, please take down your vendors when you leave the room. Please remove any items from the bazaar, do not run anything in a factory, and please, PLEASE put away your harvestors. You aren't there, you shouldn't benefit from time not spent actually AT the keyboard.

If you don't like the AFK people, go somewhere else! No one is forcing you to be there, please move along, and let the AFK people get their XP so they can go somewhere else and do what they really want to do.

Just wanting to put in my two cents

I just recently became master musician (which I am loving btw) and I have gone both ways of AFK and ATK. The only times I ever went AFK were for the usual breaks needed (i.e. food, tell my husband to clean up his mess, etc) and to provide a needed service for those hours of the day when mind/bf healing was needed and most everyone was at work or sleeping (depending on my work schedule).

I usually set up shop in say, Dantooine's Mining Outpost on Chilastra and then go to work. That way I can hopefully provide the hunters/fighters with healing.

When I first started playing a few months ago, I, like most everyone else I would suppose, tried my hand in the fighter's life. To be blunt, I am not a fighter and would get killed several times during the course of a few hours. I'd end up racking up wounds and bf and to my horror...could never find a musician. When I could, a lot of times they were AFK...but I was greatful to have at least found them.

So with the two cents said, I extend an invitation to anyone on the Chilastra server (well anyone being preferably a master musician) to send a /tell or an email if interested in forming a band or just to jam once in a while. Yes, Fragpuppie, I want to attempt to give you a bit of competition in the music world (notice I said attempt, we all know that you're the bomb!). Perhaps with musicians banding together to provide competition within the profession will re-ignite the needed interest and passion for music.

Different kinds of people play this game. Thats what makes this game really good because of its diversity. But unfortunatly our path is allready picked, regardless of your prefered playstyle, when your character is made. That is the ultimate goal isn't it? To open the FS Slot. It is for the greater majority of the player base. With the difficult of getting holo's (expecially for non combatants) people had settled in thier proffession. Now that SOE has given out 2 HOLO's per char (not to meantion xserver trading) people have found new hope in training for the FS slot.

I have played games like this before and allways went for the combatant role. Thats the way I like to play, after all I am paying 15 bucks a month so that I can have fun. So when a Holo tells me I have to master Muscian, i hope you can understand that my idea of fun isn't watching my character play a flute and hear the same repetitive music. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting the proffession down for anyone who enjoys this kind of playing......like I said it takes all kinds...and thats what makes this game fun. I'm not mastering Musician to be a master muscian......its a journey along my way that I find not worth 15 bucks a month if I have to be there every waking moment of flute playing.

I wanted to blow things up, slay foul beasts..........Holo says I gotta play music...I'll do what I gotta do.
