Thread: Entertainer Changes in development
What I would like to see is the Muscian being able to get out of the Cantina too. It would be nice if our music worked like a bard so to speak. Allowing the Muscian to buff the action, health, or accuacy, or speed of attack, etc,etc
This could go on and on. The buffs would last shorter lengths of time say like 5 mins or so but would really boost the group. It would also allow us to get out of caninta and stop the afkers from taking all our fun from us.

Creative thinking brought those of us with a bent toward roleplaying entertainers with a reason to interact with die-hard combatants... just as crafting and city management still enjoy.
I can appreciate the desire to allow combatants to continue playing their game without needing to find an entertainer, but here are a few counterpoints to consider...
AFK "playing"... Well, I certainly would agree with a 'gag order' on AFK players, but I enjoy the ambiance and atmosphere that a well decorated cantina brings to my (RL)house... as long as the game allows it, I will enjoy spending my $12.95 per month on what most would consider an extremely expensive screensaver. Others may or may not get an in-game benefit from it, but I will contine to enjoy listening to whatever music my stereo is playing, while my Wookiee dances to a sound-disabled band in my favorite cantina.
Perhaps something as simple as allowing the NPC musicians, such as those in Mos Eiseley, to have an effect on players, would eliminate the crunch for player musicians... I've always thought it was a really well-planned idea to have the 'healing effect' of music as well as inspiration.
I'd love an expanded Entertainer tree, rather than a contracted one... "Singer" comes to mind immediately, as does "Masseuse" (sp?), and "Magician" (David Copperfield-style...)
Some other random thoughts
...I do appreciate the seperation of Dancer and Musician, and believe thata Master Entertainer ought to be something very different from a Master Musician... but perhaps the relationship between hairstyling and playing a Mandoviol is a bit too strained.
...Musicians that I've met in RL, as well as Chefs, and Dancers, all have an extraordinarily well developed sense of time, meter, etc., and are often well skilled in driving high-performance vehicles, so perhaps a bonus similar to the Vehicle Control Force-sensitive skills would be appropriate... and useful.
...It'd be really cool for a solo dancer to be able to 'react' to other music playing on the local PC, similar to the Microsoft Plus! Dancer program... I can appreciate that the other observing players wouldn't get to see the difference, but it would be cool at partys to have a dancer or musician that can automatically flourish from time to time to the music, and to generally keep with the beat of whatever I'm playing through WinAmp...
...Battle Fatigue is a real condition, and there's something to be said for not being a 24x7 killing machine due to degrees of post-traumatic-stress-disorder. On the other hand, sampling radioactive materials ought to cause a somewhat different effect, methinks.
...For those who are here primarily as social creatures, large groups were fun. Throughout history, musicians have had extremely important roles in combat... from drummers keeping a marching phalanx in-step to buglers sounding 'Charge!' or 'Retreat!'... perhaps the presence of a Musician in a group could expand the maximum number of members, or enhance the effectiveness of a Squad Leader...

(I suppose it's a bit rude to respond to one's own post... but these may be interesting, too)
...along the lines of the "field value" of a musician...
It should be easy to see a connection between music and creature taming. (Insert cliche here)
...and 'enhancing' squad leader commands by echoing commands musically could lead to a great diversity of specialized musical instruments specifically for field use. We could finally have a reason to invest in crafting instruments--increasing range, decreasing the time needed to play the short tune to signal the rally, etc. Perhaps some instruments would need droid batteries... perhaps some driods could be created specifically as mobile instruments... a new and valuable companion for a squad leader or creature handler.
...I've heard stories of psychological operations units blasting 'western' music at military compounds to aggrivate and annoy them... and a 'dog whistle' effect could be used to aggrivate pets and distract them from their masters' commands.
...the Gungans, as I remember, used music for large scale military communication during Episode 1.
