Thread: Entertainer Changes in development

The Death Of The Musician Is Coming Sooneth..
That's funny, because I think the same thing - but picturing a phoenix rising from the ashes.
What once was Musician deserves to die. Then we are to be reborn in far greater glory.
Good riddance, buffbots, AFK'ers, combatant hate, negative attitudes, spam-filled cantinas from dozens of bots.
Out with the old, in with the new.

My concern is this:
So my concern is that visiting an entertainer is going to become something done as preparation rather than as relaxation. The patrons will get the maximum "benefit" they can, then leave as quickly as possible, because they have other objectives to accomplish. There's nothing to get them to stick around, to talk about a just-completed mission with their buddies over a drink, to relax at the end of a hard session. Instead it's "let's get our buffs and get going."

The Devs want being entertained to be necessary to "gain a benefit" rather than to "lose a penalty". That's a good goal, and I don't disagree with it. The problem is that "gaining a benefit" is done *before* the entertainee goes and does his thing. That's backwards from what entertaining normally is -- something done *after* a long day of work. That's why it was originally implemented as a way to alleviate a penalty.
Esharra reminded us over in the dancer forum that Inspirations carry from play session to play session for exactly this reason..
So it's up to us to remind people that this doesn't have to be pre-combat, unless it's something that they run out of during a play session. Otherwise you log on, play, use up your buff, go to the cantina and wind down and recharge your buff, then be ready to play as soon as you log on again.

You know that is a point, however, is that as intended? Have we ever heard that this effect is how the devs intended them to work and how they will CONTINUE to work?
It makes no sense that inspiriations carry over when no other buffs do. It always struck me as yet another weird piece of code that affects very few people and most of them being entertainers (and the devs rank us way below other professions in importance). It may be as intended so we don't get a rash of people logging out to remove the inspire so they can get re-inspired thus providing healing XP (as if there are not many other ways to get healing XP in unintended ways). Oh, and if the healing XP goes away, then that reason is moot.

Doc buffs work the same way, and buffs in all the major MMOs work like this now..
Well, here we are after Publish 19, so when are these things really gonna start. Huh? Huh? Huh? When?

Proposal: the Entertainment District City Specialization would allow something completely unique, such as Musician performances providing ambient audio, or (or AND) Entertainer performances anywhere within city limits would buff those who are /Listening or /Watching - yes, inspiration buffs outside on the grass!

Yes, they are. I would suggest cross-posting them to the Politician forum.![]()
Posting it over there now
- Will existing clothing with mods already in place be converted? I've spent a lot of time, effort and credits gathering a wardrobe that includes +25 Musical Mind Enhancement, and lots of single items of clothing that have both +25 Wound Healing (Music) and +25 Battle Fatigue Healing (Music). We were supposed to have left the beta stage two years ago; I shouldn't have to still be worried about just losing all of that because these idiots don't know what to do with us and keep changing their minds.
- What's going to be done about the bio-engineered tissues, in their skilltree and in-game items already crafted? What will they be changed to?
- How about the racial bonuses that twi'lek get? How will that be addressed? Are they going to remember to change the screens you see at character creation?
- What will the Force Sensitive Enhanced Senses Healing line bonuses change into, since we're no longer healers? Will it affect our "insipidations" or will it all simply be removed? If it's removed, I want a respec for that. I got it because I was a musician, and if they remove its utility for a musician, I've got a couple other lines that I'd rather have instead.
Sooo...with these upcoming changes, only those already interested in Entertaining will ever intereact with Entertainers. The potential for getting new people interested and having audiences of anyone other than slobbering yes-folk drops down to almost nothing. Entertaining will turn into one great big self-congratulatory...well, I'd like to say something really crude, but I think "round robin" is the closest thing to it I can say without getting forum banned.
Nothing will ever get rid of AFK playing unless the code is changed to include that same inability to play/dance as combatants are prohibited from attacking if the AFK flag is on, and if the option to turn it off were removed. If all this is intended to work towards that goal, it's cutting off our noses to spite our faces. Of course, I think all of this is being done to us because the people in development just don't know what to do with us and want us all gone, or whittled down to an even more ignorable little community.
The dream is dead. SOE simply doesn't have a clue how to create ties between social and combat-oriented playstyles without Designer Dragon around. Experiment failed. kthxbai
