I completely agree, NJ. Honkeytonk Piano is much more fitting than steel drum. But then again, with our 'rockstar' flourishing with the mandoviol and the violin sound, I'm not suprised.
Also loving this song. Just looking for more Tempestians to play it with

Heh heh, did you try combining the Narly with the other instruments NJ?The steel drums work nicelywith just Fill alone and also in the full group.
And what is it with you and having 4 or 5 mandos in the group?

By the way, after one failed attempt and a 24-hour wait, I got Western today too! Woo hoo! I really enjoy this tune. The only instrument that disappoints me at all is the nalargon, which again is a steel drum kind of thing. Why are the devs so in love with that sound? This tune cried out for a honky-tonk piano solo.
I tend to agree. The Nal is a little heavy on the steel drum sounds. Jazz would sound better with a piano sound.

Yay! I just got it! Don't feel bad-- I failed once too.
As for the last performance, have a friend /conv the crowd. They'll want 2 songs and 3 flos they like.
I stayed up a lot later playing this song. I'm gonna have a rough time waking up tomorrow!

Western is great
Played it only with my droid and found 3 Songs in Western
Nalargon + Bandfill = Monkey Island Sond
Mandoviol + Bandfill = Western Song
Horn + Bandfill = some kind of electro Song
And the quest was just fun. I made it with my band at the starport

ok failed it for hte second time . . they asked for ceremonial and jazz so i switch off between em and mixed in a bunch of flourishes with the flo 5 and 7 they asked for. repeated that with special effects and they went up to neutral then back to slightly unsatisfied.. W.T.F. GIVES?!!
Well Balgosa, I finally passed the audition last night on my third try. They said they wanted to hear flourishes 3, 4 and 6, but never 2 because they hated it, and they liked both Rock and Starwars1. What I did was start with Starwars1, play 3,4,6,1,8,7,3,4,6,1,8,7,5,3,4,6 all while spamming special effects as much as I could. After a while I switched it over to Rock, still using the same basic flourish pattern. I through in a little Folk and and Waltz for good measure, then went right back to the songs they loved, and that did the trick. It was only until a few seconds were left, however, that I finally satisfied them. I was relieved.

I got it yesterday late myself! Me, a friend, and two droids then proceeded to play it in Theed cantina. Several other friends and many I didn't know listened and were impressed. Had nal, bandfill, mando, and kloo going. I love the techno sound that horn adds. There is a lot you can do with this song from pure spagetti western to techno funk country. And I don't even care for country.

ROFL! You're on to me! I just LOVE that mando. I like the look of four or five performers on mando. In fact, my first band in this game was called The Kreetles. Well, we weren't a band so much as me and Odoro and whoever else joined us, but I liked to call us the Kreetles, and I wore black suits and a moptop. (Odoro, a Rodian, can only do so much with his do.)
But I also like the sound of several mandos. Mandos trading flo's on Star Wars 1 and Ceremonial, in particular. And, now, on Western. Yee haw!

i went with 2 friends who talked to the audience for me . that was my second try and it failed as well.
they actually went to <neutral> then to <slightly unsatisfied> again towards the end and i was just spamming the flos they wanted and others and just the 2 songs they asked for.

They want variety. What you did bored them. They want to hear those things they ask for yes, but thats not all they want to hear. As fragpuppie has said, and my experience bears out:
A) avoid what they dont like
B) play a mix of everything else
C) emphasize (but don't limit yourself to) anything they ask for specifically

Aye.
Here's what I did when they asked for 4, 6, and 8:
4 6 8 1 2 4 3 8 7 7 6 4 5 3 4 2 1 8 1 76 48 5
It made the rating go up relatively quickly.
I also threw in the occasional Special Effect. Not sure if that did anything though.

It certainly is not easy. I mananged to make it all the way through the Musician quest without failing (more to luck than skill). My wife on the other hand has failed about 4 times on the 3rd audition.
I believe you have to do not just the flourishes and songs they ask for, but do almost everything BUT what they say they don't want to hear. Plus throw in some special effects. That's the way I did my auditions. I can tell you that JUST doing what they want, you're almost certainly gonna fail.
I really like Western a lot! A Mando / Bandfill duet is the best thing there is. The other instruments sound good though and in a band setting the song sounds great!
Now, when do we get our next song?

I don't have special effects, but I agree that you have to do a bit of everything to pass audition 3, leaning heavily on the stuff they like of course, and avoiding the stuff they don't like.
I got lucky and passed the first time. I'm playing zee Western now. Yee haw.
