Thread: Draft of our top 10 questions for TH: please comment
Thanks, Jericho. It took about four drafts! It was like marking up congressional legislation. ![]()
Oh, and LeBob? I don't know if anyone has replied to the thing about not being able to pick up missions for player cantinas? It is possible, just VERY rare. A few days ago when I was in Mos Elsewhere I wondered if it was possible so I ran to our entertainer mission terminal and after a whole bunch of clicking on refresh I got two missions for the Drunken Tusken.Just so you know...it is possible.

Ceroshin, I certainly would love to fire up my MIDI controller and jam with others for real in the Coronet cantina. But there are technical, design, and legal obstacles. Technically, such a regime would require players to own a MIDI controller, or to struggle with using the keyboard as a MIDI input device -- a possible but awkward control scheme. The design obstacle is that such a system would disfavor people who aren't musicians in RL but still like the idea of dressing up like Elvis and jamming with their friends."
*laugh* I don't ever see it happening either. Gawd, wouldn't it be fun though?
To be honest, I really just wish that the music 'system' was more interactive. Right now, all you really do is /startmusic (whatever song) and after that all you can do is use the 8 specified flourishes given. No tempo control, pitch settings, no real chance to add in a proper band dynamic.
Really, that's all I'm wishing that they would implement. (Standard disclaimer: My last post had a degree of frustration that was not dealing with your work as Correspondent, but rather the extremely limited 'music' system that we have been given.) Things like:
- Pitch/key changes. ("All right, boys, Starwars3 time, F#, hit it!")
- Tempo control (yeah, this one would have to be bandleader only, probably, but still)
- The ability to add 'bridges', 'solo sessions', 'section focus' (focusing on just the lower horns, for instance), without having to rely on a klunky stop/start mechanic.
- An honest-to-God keyboard/piano instrument. Give it some sort of appropriate name, like a Synthboard or the like, if ya have to. Nalargon just looks and feels too much like an acid-tripped organ to fill this role.
- For that matter, just more unique-sounding instruments. (Yes, I know you're working on this one; just listing it for completeness' sake.)
- An actual 'bass' instrument, rather than the bass line being lumped in with the Bandfill/Omni. Call it minor, but that's always rather bugged me.
And that's what I'm really just talkin' about.
Ah, I gotcha, Ceroshin. Yeah, even the existing strong structure could've required more player skill (short of a Masters in Music). E.g., at least make us all choose the same key; require us to make decisions about how fast or slow to play a tune; and I've long wishes we had some ability for solos and band call-and-response. I mean, the devs did hit on a cool idea -- let people form "bands"andplay different parts together. It's the thing about this game that grabbed me most at launch. But the implementation could've been much deeper.
There's still hope we'll get new instruments and new sounds. In the short term, though, I'd be happy if they'd just send us those new songs they keep saying are in production. ![]()
you actually can do this with the pause button and it is pretty cool. But as you said, it could hvae been made better to work better

Thank your lucky stars he's taking his time. If you're ever short on negativity, go read the Pikeman's 10 question answers that TH sent out a while back. He obviously could have spent more time on the answers, and as a result, there's a lot of people really pissed off at him.
For instance: would it be better to just not answer a question if your only answer is "the combat pass will fix this" when the question clearly states that Pikemen really don't want to hear "the combat pass will fix this"?
Or, what do you think when you hear "hybrid profession"? Do you think "Like a Bounty Hunter or Commando right? Requires lines from multiple professions?" Or do you think, "Like Pistoleer right? It doesn't require multiple professions and it doesn't take a lot of points, allowing your character to be a hybrid?" Both are right! He could have spent a little more time and explained his answer to the now infamous #3 much better than he did. Some people actually accused him of not knowing the requirements for Pikeman and demanded that he be fired. Over one word.
Yeah, TH, I'll wait a month. Just get it right the first time, please.
well since the point of this was to open comunication more then anything, I would say sure take a month but check in saying... don't worry we havent forgoten about it.
