Thread: Master Musician, Mandoviol and Ceremonial, working of Master Musician
Cudayn,
Good point, but.... If a MM can make a mando, and it end up in his/her inventory, is that not "available" to the musician.
Maybe SOE needs to draw the line more clearly... Let ME's make the instrument, take it away completely from the MM...
I would not like it and I would still think it dumb that a MM could not play all instruments BUT at least SOE would have made their intentions clear and in black and white.
Lord, do you actually play any other classes ?
Do you know a marksman who complains because his "instruments" are build by another profession ?
You cannot have all in one class. If you want that, go to the Bounty Hunter Forum and join the "we are uber because we deserve to be" chorus.
Oh, and you don't actually believe the description of your class, do you ? According to the helpfiles I'm on my way to "eliminate almost any opponent". I already mastered "easily dishing out large amounts of damage". Funny how I occasionally still get killed by a pack of mutant chickens.
If anyone has even read my posts, what makes Musicians so special that as the only class in SWG they should get their base classes Master rewards to the elite class ? Why not move the master marksman pistol boni to pistoleer ? Artisan Templates to novice Droid Engineer ?
I'm really only 2 feet from flaming because I cannot understand how you can ignore this. We know you want all you can get. But how about looking over the fence and seeing the greater system behind your little piece of the cake ?
BTW: I still want heavy weapon skills on my dancer... when do I get some ?
Hijo,
You state a matter of opinion... YOURS... Nothing wrong with that but there is every reason to believe the other way as well. To me (yes, MY opinion), a master musician is someone with a lot of musical talent. Anyone I know with a lot of musical talent can play any instrument they pick up (at least to some degree). The devs *may* have made a change taking the instrument/song from MM's during the beta and forgot to change the wording in the description but that does not make it right that ME's can play an instrument that first must be crafted by a Master Musician while the master musician (yes playing music is his/her profession NOT crafting instruments as is the argument for people who say "I know instrument builders who cant play the instrument they build) is not able to play an instrument at all?
No one from the development team has stepped in to clarify this matter from either angle whichallows people like me (yes there is more than one) to deduct that even though the title says one thing and the skills available say another SOE has not made any firm/hard decisions on this issue.
Most of the MM's I know are not whining at all. They do not want ME's to have the instrument ripped from them. They also think that ME needs some work to make it a worthwhile profession on its own but not at the expense of the ability for the MM to play all instruments/songs as is CURRENTLY (whether by some dev mistake or not, its a fact) STATED.
I am of the opinion that you enjoy flaming these types of threads... Why else would have you bumped my poll thread telling me to take my own advice when the last time I posted there was the 17th?

Thats really nice. Where do you get your insight? I am sure glad you know the developers minds. The game has been out how long now? How many patches? The discription is text based.... Still the same... hmm...
He gets it from being in beta, which he clearly was while you clearly were not.
The current setup was made in the last 2-3 weeks of beta test. There were several reasons for it, but it boiled down to the fact that nobody during beta cared about being a master entertainer. It was terribly difficult (yes, that changed at release) and when you got there you really didn't have any skills that were more valuable than you'd have if you just ignored it.
After seeing the changes, such as moving mando under ME, and seeing them NOT change back despite giving in to the dancers (rightly, IMO)about thedances that they'dmoved underME, I'd say that the reason Master Musician says "can play all instruments" is because they haven't gotten around to fixing the text. Heck, they're only just now getting around to fixing the text in the "loading" screens, many of which still say things like "No-one has ever captured and trained a Huf-Dun". (Funny, I see them pulled out in the cantina every other week.)
Knows all songs and can use all Instruments.(Availible to him) That part in parentheses is also included in that description for the Master Musician. Perhaps the devs already like the wording as is?
happy music making.....

The difference Nvoiht is we dont learn songs for ourself. We learn them to play for the masses.
It's bad enough we dont have enough songs. But to have one of them incorrectly set in a tree where it doesnt belong simply raises questions by Masters out there gettin it done.
You play a party for 4 hours and you will realize we need more tunes.
Cere where it is is a waste. I dont want the tune to be uber, I want it so I have more to offer my clients.
Weapon and skill analogies dont cut it. We are musicians and should know that tune.
Tell ye what earn yer stripes then come dazzle us with yor logic![]()
Makup and dancin do not a musician make![]()
It seems I already dazzle you with my logic, as you are unable to respond to it.
The system works in a way that to gain master for your base profession, you will have to do things not directly helpful to your elite profession. When you have mastered your base profession, it will give you more advantages in your elite profession than a simple mastership in it. This goes for all classes, including musician.
Lets not discuss this in two seperate threads, I already responded to the poll ![]()
I reply lad. Your just so dazzled by your own logic you have no room for anyone else's![]()
Carry on![]()

I tell ye Mon I'm about to break. I could use that tune.

At this point in the great debate, I STILL believe a MM should have the song/instrument. I DO understand the argument against it however and ultimately I think the problem exists because the ME is a worthless profession in general that needs a complete revamping.
IF, things remain the way they are, and I could choose only one of the items to be copied (not transfered) to the MM tree at master it would be the song. While I still believe it silly that an MM would not be able to play a particular instrument... It is absolutely INSANE that one would not be able to play any song an ME could play with any of the instruments he CAN play. In reality THAT is the main issue. While I still believe that a master musician should be able to play all the instruments, I could concede that if one could play all the songs... I mean come on... Go up to a good pianist who is playing different music, place a new piece in front of him... Does he scratch his head and say "Wow, I just can't read THIS music... All my knowledge in music theory that allows me to read every other song I can play and this song looks like chicken scratch... Hmm... I better go learn to dance and alter looks if I want to learn this song."
As for the comments about pistoleers.... THEY SHOULD BE THE BEST WITH A PISTOL... Plain and simple.
Amazing - I JUST hit MM last night - and like the original poster was hoping beyond hope that those two would be included.
It simply makes no sense that a MM that supposedly knows every song and instrument does NOT know these.
There are two parts of entertaining. The functional part - healing, and the RP part - the fun part which is always greater if there are more people in the band.
The biggest drawback to the fun part has always been having to drop to the lowest common denominator of song. So, unless I put points into two branches I have absolutely no need or desire for - I don't know a song and an instrument? Makes no freaking sense whatsoever - and looks like padding for master entertainer - padding is bad - it means you ran out of ideas before you ran out of boxes.
I have 4 elite masters. Musician, Merchant, Bio and Tailor. Of the 4 - so far, musician has been the one I had the least complaints about - till now. New instruments or songs would be nice - but that's not something I'm really going to complain about - having superior skills and being an elite master without an instrument and song which IS in the game - I am.
having superior skills and being an elite master without an instrument and song which IS in the game - I am [complaining].
Well, the game is set up so that being a master in one profession is great, but a master in that profession that also has a complimentary second profession is better. If you like to discuss that system, feel free to join us in the "POLL" thread ![]()
