Thread: Suggestions on How not to downgrade ur playing with a newbie
I would point out that the "you were a noob entertainer once too, and they had to change songs for you!" isn't actually true for some of the posters. They started playing when everyone only knew SW1 and Rock, then surpassed there fellows.
Me? I don't mind SW1. I seperate playing music, and leveling as a musician. Playing music I do in a group of some friends musicians, none of them with less than music knowlage 3, all of them working to produce a good sound with synced flourishes and timed solos and the like. Leveling as a musician I do in 10 personband, with SW1, the player volume turned off and a book in hand. I use winamp to give me the music I want to hear.
What I want to see is more songs. MANY more songs: about double or tripple the current base. SW1 should not be the only thing a novice musician should play: just as someone who knows the basics of trumpet can play alot more than twinkle twinkle.
I think there are several types of 'sw1 players' that need to be considered and handle in different ways.
- The '3rd profession entertainer' that isn't really serious about entertainer and wants to have some self heal ability out in the field, is interested enough to progress through the music branch.
- The '3rd profession entertainer' that has no interest in progressing through the music branch and is determined to continue playing sw1, but wants to level entertainment healing. These are the most likely to moan like crazy if the group is playing a song other than sw1, or in some cases /stopband and /startband starwars1 without consulting the band.
- Aspiring musicians, have their targets set on Master Musician but happen to be on the bottom rung of the ladder.
In the first case and third case I'm quite happy to drop the song for as long as they are making a concerted effort to /flourish.
In the second case I would either advise them to start another band or go solo myself. Theres nothing worse than bringing in a novice entertainer into the group, switching to sw1 and then watching them (in full armour) sway from side to side without flourishing.
Its one thing if the sw1 player is trying to gain additional songs, but quite another if they have no interest in increasing their repertoire. No matter which instrument I use sw1 gives me a headache after about 5 mins, I didn't pick Musician so I could play with the volume down!
As a matter of commerce, Musician is my main trade. I could do Gnort destroy missions forever at 2k a pop, but I would rather tour around with a group of equally trained peers and entertain people in a variety of ways.
I really wish this particular subject would leave the top 5, as people need to make the decision how far they want to go with their Entertainment career. If a Master Musician is tired of listening to StarWars1 and Rock, then find a group of like-minded people and form a band, or hire themselves out as a local entertainer for a player-run cantina.
Actually, I kind of like StarWars1, the 1 Mandovil, 1 Bandfill, and 1 Fizzz/Kloo/Chid version.

If higher level musicians had higher level flourishes for the same songs it might not be such a big deal to play the old star wars 1. The new musician can play the basic flourish, but as a musician advances they learn new flourishes for the same song. So maybe a music IV player has 16 flourishes for star wars 1 while a new musician has only the original 8. The higher level musician still sounds better than the new person even though they are playing the same song.
