Panthu posted a bit more about what's happening in the Correspondent forum about this:

So, Panthu, what's the buzz around the office tonight?

Well, we've caused quite a commotion in the Corre Forum over this badge thing... I do not know yet what will come of it. Tiaga has gone full gang busters since his big "state of the playstyle" post. I can honestly say I don't think there is a Corre that doesn't have an opinion on it. We do not have a Dev statement on it... Tiaga did get a more general inquiry into the overall AFK Ent situation as a reply to his post that was just a re-posting of Deila's post about it.
We think that's a good sign. Lots of other non-Ent Corres chimed in with suggestions, which I thought was really nice. No Dev or TH feedback on it yet... knowing TH though, it will probably get circulated to the Dev team (which is good).
We have been reminded again to keep our tone up beat or at the very least non-attacking to get the best response... we have also been advised to stick together by the other Prof Corres that have been through some kind of pre-change mood like this. I am hopeful for what it's worth.
It's very hard to balance the message that we are a fun and happy playerbase along with the message that we have severe issues that would improve the whole game for everyone if they were resolved. I think we are just having some testing by fire right now... I am hoping that this will all lead to the improved communication we are asking for.
Remember to breath, remember to be nice to each other and other player types, and keep doing the fun things like the videos and the CCs. We'll get through it... hopefully we'll be improved once we get to the other side of this mess.

Posted this in the dancer forum but forgot to mention this here....
This may comfort some of you--or it may not. I was so ticked at this incident--that I filed a harrasment report about it with the CSR ticket system, under community standards and harrasment. I know.. in some sense I was not directly harrased by the CSR that did this award--but in another sense I was- and anyone who's disturbed by all the turbo-afk-looters or buffbots or spammer merchants, was harrased.I know how I felt when I read that a CSR rewarded a bot . So I complained--and apparently, the CSRs didnt think my complaint worthless....
So it took CS a day to respond--the first CSr on it had to talk to a supervisor--but today I got a response. NO, its not immediately an apology or any indication that people will be punnished, the badge removed, the bots account revoked--but it *is* at least something you can point toand say AFKers are NOT encouraged by SOE (even if some players encourage them).
What the supervisor said to me was "rest assured" that they consider it "inappropriate' that a badge was given to a player dedicated to AFK play.
I take it to mean that the offical SOE view is that bots do not *deserve* a badge .
ITs not quite everything you hoped for by way of response--but at the least...there it is. The CSRs alsosaid they were investigating further and could not of course disclose anything else about what would happen (if anything) until that investigation is done. I expected that bit of nonanswer--but was sort of pleased they said as much as they did.
If you were there on ahazi when this happened--then please file a ticket about it. I know elsewhere people have urged you to write letters and all--but filing a ticket in game is pretty easy to do. f you were actually there when the CSR appeared, and spoke to the CSr to tell them not to give the badge--it might help if you could mention how the CSR blew you off. I'm not sure what people said to the CSR but I heard that some people argued wtih the CSR who didn't seem to care about the AFkness of the player. In any case--I do believe they are investigating this and that while one or two CSR's may not "get it"--that most try to do their jobs well and make us the customers happy.
I have never yet filed a ticket where I did not get a CSR back to help fix what I thought was wrong--possibly b/c I take time to write up the problem clearly and politely, and I respect that they may not be able to help me.I also pick my battles ..but this one was something I felt worth the trouble. So please if you do go this route--make sure you're calm before you write it up--and just lay out to the CSR that you think this is a problem. EVEn if they gave you the same response they give me-- at least it will continue to "squeak" in the ears of those trying to compile lists of "bugs" that need to be changed.
And if you are by chance one of those players who are passionately proud of the bots and how they "help" you-- let me say you were probably also annoyed at the ID changes, the fixing of the shuttle-repair bug...and various other things in game that created downtime for you--and playing opportunites for other players. If the developers/CSRs were really listening to the narrow interests of just the hard-core, power leveling combat type who adore bots--none of those changes would have happened. This badge didn't make sense if you're looking at how the game has been developed so far--and now we have word from a CSR that they agree itwas "inappropriate".

I PM'd Pex on this personally folks. He replied late yesterday and told me he could be quoted so here is the copy/paste from my PM Inbox:

Re: AFK Entertainer Recieves Badge
I am aware of the event you mention and have reminded the CSR's about the policies involved in granting badges. Obviously this is not what was intended and it shouldn't happen again.
You can post this quote if you like.

In other words, this was a mistake. An oversight on the part of the CSR staff. A decsion made in ignorance on the part of the CSR that did it.

i'm not trying to say afking your way through an entertainment professions is right but think about what is happening. if you have a flourish macro set up and you turn it on all your character does it sit there playing music or dancing. i recently master musician and it was difficult becasuse at first you only get like 10 xp every few seconds and it takes alot fo xp to master. it gets real boreing sitiing there for 2,3,4 hours a day watching your cahracter play music or dance around. it's very very boreing. i can understand people wanting acutally ents. not just afkers but i also understand completely the need to afk sometimes, expecially at 5 in the morning with 1 hour until the severs reset.

If people want to pay 14.99 a month to play the game, fine. Their money, not mine, and until such a time as SOE says that is against the rules, not much I can do about it. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit back and let them REWARD the people who do it, while the faithful, live entertainers are repeatedly slapped in the face.

prov-one konobi, see thats one of the biggest problems. What you described ISNT what entertainers do all day. Sure your char may be dancing, or playing music, but real entertainers do more.
The cantina life right now makes it extremely hard to do more, like it used to, and makes new people, or people just trying the profession, think all there is to do is sit there and watch your char dance/play music. This isnt a single player game, entertaining is the essence of the social life in this game. If you are playing an entertainer and NOT talking then of course you are going to be bored.
When most of us die hard ents leveled, before holo grinding, we never looked at the xp bar go up (or lack of). We spent our time making friends, meeting new people, and learning a lot of cool new things about the SWG universe.
So really, no there is no excuse to go afk, as you can not meet new people, learn anything new, or be an entertainer when not at the keyboard. Why should you level as fast as possible, missing out on some extremely great oppurtunities that can be had in the cantina just to make master and do the same thing as doing before?
when will people realize this is not a single player game...

On Starsider...
An AFK dancer named Ichben got a badge.
This is troubling because:
A) He is AFK whenever he is on.
B) He wasn't even novice dancer.
C) He dances next to the ticket collecter at the Coronet SP.
D) He spams non-sense to cause extra lag.
And guess what... He gets a badge.
He also learned some of dancer, just the tech line really, so he could block the ticket collecter even more by using smoke bomb and the like.
It's absolutely absurd.

why is everyone complaining? think of the poor csr .. no idea for what he should grant an entertainer the badge and a quota he has to fullfill ... so he just clicks in the dancing and playing masses in an overcrowded cantina and when he gets a target he types something like /grantBadge and thats it. he does that 5 or 10 times and then his job is done ... works like intended.
its easier to give badges away like this than looking for entertainerguilds that produce content everyday with their gigs or entertainers that placed and decorated superb cantinas ... entertainers that wrote songs with the flourishes or wrote lyrics to perform while they play.
and whats next? merchant badges for the starport-spamers that 'advertise' for empty vendors every 30 seconds?
i thought the badge is for people that play their profession very well but now its only a badge of shame. isnt it enough to totally ignore the entertainer professions (mission terminals, no quests, no new content)?
this is a slap in the face for all entertainers!

*nods* He is the only person on my SS ignore list. I can't stand the guy, but it should be noted that he got a badge for a "memorable personality." This is probably deserved in that he is mememorable, or at least his macro is.He spams for tips for "helping galactic peace" while wearing a stormtrooper helmet and hawtpants dancing on the ticket droid and using the smoke effect.
