Thread: Martyn's guide to being an excellent musician V2.0
For someone just starting out in SWG, this guide is amazingly helpful. I just have one question (and this is going to sound REEEEEEEEALLLLL newbie but SOMEONE's got to ask it for all the shy noobs out there):
How do you set up a macro?
I'm probably an idiotand just haven't spent enough time with the handy dandy manual, but i'm just curious as to how exactly its done.
Grazie
Here are my humble tips. They might have already been said, but they bear repeating.
1) Be courteous to everyone.
2) Get to know your audience. When they enter the cantina, say hello. Don't ask for tips, just let them come as they may. This will help out your reputation over time. If you see a return customer, establish the fact that you recognize them.
3) Ask exiting people to come back again. It is an often looked over thing, but I think it helps alot. It makes them feel welcome.
4) Take requests, for songsand singing. If you rock out to a request, people will like you more for it and generally slide more credits your way.
5) Be courteous to the audience. They are your revenue and xp source. They can also be your friends, if you let them.
6) Play nice with other members of the band. You will probably play with alot of them again, so it is good to get started on the right foot. You will meet many friends here. You will invite each other to big gigs on different planets because they enjoyed playing with you before. This could land you alot of xp and get youon the inside of the entertainer'ssociety. Believe you me, being pleasant pays off.
7) If you are playing with lower level musicians, go down to their song level. It will get you less xp but a better reputation as a good musician. They will admire and respect you for your kindness. Besides, we all were low level sometime. Wouldn't it just make your day when a higher musician would play lower music so you could fit in? Such a pleasent, fuzzy feeling...
8) Get regulars, a musicians best friend. If you get regulars that recognize you and respect you, you can't ask much more for tips and friendship. The way I shall illustrate this one is through a story.
Bob enters the cantina and starts listening to your music. You say hello, ask where he is from, and try to be friends with him. He tells you he is going on a real tough mission. He would like to tip you, but he doesn't have the money. You say that is ok. He leaves and bids you farewell. Part of you doesn't like him because he is a moocher. But you keep your cool and ask him to come back anytime.
Bob returns from the mission. You ask him how it went and you talk to him for a good 10 minutes. He says it went well and he got a good bit of cash/xp. You say how happy you are for him. He tips you 200 creds and says it was great talking to him. You say he is welcome to come back anytime.
Ta da! Nowyou have a regular. If you get alot of regulars, you job as a musician is half done. You now have mission-buddies, a source of reliable revenue, and a group of good friends.
9) In review, be nice, get musician/dancer buddies, take requests, be nice to lower level people and ask people to come back. If you do those simple things, you can't go wrong.

Great guide Martyn. Some good work.
I would particularly like to point out to new musicians (and some old) that the Etiquette section is BY FAR the most important part.
YOU are there to ENTERTAIN. Going AFK with a macro is not entertainment. They could get NPCs to do that which would probably give more conversation.
And for gods sake - if you are gonna go AFK and macro, don't be the group leader!
