On the bright side the Dev's can finally boast that they have removed buff bots... There is now no reason for any entertainer bot of any kind...

But truthfully, there really isn't any need for all the other professions either. The GCW is in shambles as Jedi run rampant. I canceled this account which is my master rifle, artisan, and shipwright and kept my Master ent and musician account so go figure...

At least she has RP....

Wow... I have to say, this new update is pretty upsetting to me... I'm fairly new to this game, but I've been dying to be a musician. After trying it our, I thought it was very cool. People would have to come in to heal their battle fatigue... This forced people to come and listen to me perform. I got to meet lots of people and talk for a while with them. Not only did it help me to socialize with other players, but gave me an audience to help me earn XP. WIth this new patch now, I'm finding nobody is coming to watch anymore... No need to, so why should they? They could come in to get inspired, but that doesn't take to long... Besides, not everybody feels like going in to get inspired.. BF was a pain, so almost EVERYBODY would come in to watch for BF heal.. Now it's all gone.. and so is the audience... And without an audience... there goes my dream of being a musician..

This may not be related to publish 20, but I'm a pure ent on Starsider, and am always broke, played with the dance props and took some dancer missions, then I wanted to check out the musician stuff and couldn't pull a musician mission.

I thought I just had to equip an instrument, I asked another player nearby who is a musician if he could pull any, and he could not take any as well.

It's been awhile since I ran entertainer missions and perhaps I'm doing something wrong

There are two tabs at the top of the mission list one called Dance (which is the default) and another called Music, if you click on the Music tab you will get missions for Musician!

But Geddy....I believe all the missions on the music tab are still labled "dancer". I'll check it out next time I'm on. Its always been on our bug list and has not gotten fixed as far as I know.

I know something that might help out, lets remove the requirement to be in a camp while in the field to give inspiration buffs. If we are out sitting under a tree listening to an entertainer play, they how is that any different than setting up a camp or going to a cantina? Does the music sound different or something? They removed the need for docs to have droids in the field to buff, now they can buff whereever, Give entertainers something else to buff (Mind regen rate anyone?) so they can be viable in combat. Right now, my other 2 characters are completed templates and don't craft, there is no need for me to see an entertainer ever.

I know, going in the opposite direction of the stream is dangerous

Yesterday, I dropped rifle/ranger and became ME/MM/MD/MID because of publish 20. As I have been all those professions before, I felt I had come home. A home with a few tweaks - mostly for the better - but still home

I am thrilled and can't wait to get all my gear in action again

Well, I know that I'm in agreement with just about everything that has been said on this forum about Publish 20. I'll be the first to admit that the props are nice for the dancers... They look great in fact, but sadly... they do nothing for us musicians that have to have an instrument equipped to play the songs we have. But that's not saying that we can't use them... I use a glow stick in my right or left hand when using an Ommni or Nalagorn... that's about it. (Thought it would be cool if I could use two props at the same time, but I know I was hoping for too much on that.) I'm a MasterMusician/Master Artisan/Master Droid Engineer on Scylla and I love going to the cantinaand rock the night away while waiting on my harvesters and factories do their jobs so I can get back to my vendors and restock them. It's a nice relief fromtheheavy combatavatar I've got. (Just a little background info.) Now... I wouldn't be so upset about them splitting the skill trees into songs and instruments as much IF they had actually taken the time to put thought into the fact that almost every other instrument sounds EXACTLY the same. Kind of pointless to skill up one tree to play an instrument when you can play another instrument 2 boxes down the line that sounds like the new one would. Okay? So? We got a new song and a couple more particle effects... (Spins his finger in a circle) Whoopee! Lot of good it actually does us... I think that I've played it a couple of times already, but not as much as I would have liked to... of course, unless I wanted to be the only one standing around in a cantina and doing nothing at all except hitting the /flourishes. A lot of cantinas have gotten alarmingly empty lately because of the publish. The cantina I used to play in always had 10-20 people in it before the publish... now only has 2-3 AFKers who still insist on that annoying "bot buff" stuff. That doesn't mean to say that I don't see an OCCASIONAL person come in for a Inspiration buff... But even at Master Musician, they don't stay long... figuring it only takes about 10-12 /flourishes to max out the buff... (Around 1 minute tops or so... 30 minute buff per 2 flourishes) I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really an out-going "social" person, but even I get EXTREMELY bored and lonely now in this situation. I used to get all sorts of comments on the shows I put on... had a little playback droid with most of the particle effects on it... switch around the instruments that actually sound DIFFERENT so that the same songs sounded different each time. But I mean COME ON! What were the Devs thinking?! 1 song, 3 effects?! What is that supposed to be? A lame attempt at a reach around? Dancers got the prop benefits, a new dance, and even particle effects to boot... I guess it goes to show where their favortism lies when it comes to the Elite Entertainer professions. I'm ready and waiting for new buffs to come out soon, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. If they can't even get the instruments fixed to where they sound different, then a little imagination of them coming up with new buffs seems to be lacking. I still think it's lame that a Master Musician can't even play a Mandoviol if they don't have the Master Entertainer block... I can see missing a couple of songs by not having that block, but I... for one... think it's stupid that a profession that excells at "making/performing music" can't even play an instrument that actually has a UNIQUE sound in the game. I guess I'll just sit around and pray for some type of Divine Intervention and hope lightning strikes the Devs in their arses to get in gear and do something decent for once instead of trying to divert our attentions with new "eye candy." (Which only increases the lag in these cantinas from the AFK entertainers spamming them.) But these are just dreams, I guess... a far cry from what I think will come out of their warped and twisted logic next. I know... how about give us something viable... give us a song that we could actually play in a combat group that could maybe increase the combat effeciency of the group as a whole... They gave some of the other classes the ability to do stuff out in the field... why not use too? Actually make us feel like a useful addition to the game now instead of a just being a class toadd to their "role playing aspect" because they just don't feel like using that grey matter of theirs.

Even though it may look pretty bleak, don't give up so quickly. If your goal was to be a performer first and a healer second, then all isn't lost yet. Audience not coming to you? Well, go to your audience!

The one good thing that may have come from the removal of BF is that entertainers are now not tied to cantinas anymore. It used to be we HAD to play in cantinas because we needed entertainer healing xp, and this could only be gotten in cantinas since that was the only place BF could be healed.

This is now over. Entertainers have to realize (and Isuspect it may not have struck home to some yet), that they are now free to roam wherever they want. You can get your xp just as well in front of a starport then in a cantina. So park yourself in front of Theed Spaceport and do your act there!

This is already happening on Chimaera. You see groups of entertainers out in the streets, entertaining. At least one argument against the removal of BF doesn't really hold water for me: folks are complaining that people now don't have a reason to come to cantinas anymore (true, so far), and that therefore entertainers have lost a large part of their visibility. The latter is false, you can be visible to more people than ever before now. You just have to go out after them, and now you are no longer penalized for doing so

This is true, yes. However, the problem with this is that then you get jerks who get pissy with you because you're in a high traffic area and you're "increasing the lag" with your particle effects, which is the only way that people are going to see you in a large gathering of people.

/showMusicianvisuals (or maybe /hideMusicianvisuals, I've only noticed /show) should turn off musician visuals. I haven't had time to test it though to see if you need to put off or something after it.I'm not even sure if it works but it should.

Turning the volume setting for Player Music down to 0 apparently stops the playing annimations for Musicians from showing.

Last I remember, actually, unchecking the "Enable Sound" checkbox will stop the animations from showing, while turning the player music down to 0 will still show them. Has this changed?
