I would love to try something like this. Honestly, it's the reason I started working on Entertainer (and, as oflast night, Musician) last week, after seeing a performance by a small group of musicians and dancers. So far, my experiences have been with entertainer groups. Nice for XP, but nothing really planned or impressive about it.

I'm a member an the administrator of Nebula, one of the oldest bands on Chimaera (if we're the oldest still active band is debatable, as The Kreetles, who were there before us, still get together every now and then). We were the ones that introduced starport gigs to our server, and we had some great times doing so.

At our peak, we were actively sought out and hired at least two times per week - we had more requests than we could handle. Sure you can argue that most people only care about their buffs because they want to get going on their next mission, but then most people have no clue at all what's possible in the entertaining professions with just a bit of work. They never know there are organized bands putting on real shows. That's mainly a visibility problem - PR is just as important here as it is in r/l. It's not enough that you play your gigs regularly, you have to advertise them, and you have to be very active and try to pull people in when you play them. So when you're at a starport, don't just stand in a corner quietly doing your thing, yell out to the public, let them know you are here (which is one reason we never played at Coronet apart from one soon aborted attempt, the spam there is just too much).

But I digress - what I wanted to get at is something that's already been mentioned here: when you're successful, really successful as a band in SWG, it gets to be real work, especially so for the one organising it. And we were successful, oh yes. But that also led to something of a burnout, and for the past few months we've quieted down somewhat, partly intentional, partly because we had to. We also have the same problem as many others: lots of members leaving (lately for EQ2), and attendance at gigs isn't what it used to be. Gone are the days when we could field 6 musicians and 5 dancers for a performance, most of them masters. These days we get by with maybe half a dozen performers in total, which is at least adequate for a gig.

But we are still here, and we are not the only ones on Chimaera. Currently there are at least two other bands active on our server, and we also cooperate as much as our schedules allow.

If you can find your way to the Chimaera galaxy next sunday (19th), Nebula will be cooperating with SWING (one of those two other bands) on a x-mas tour that will take us across 3 planets over the course of almost 3 hours (starting at 4:30pm GMT) and will end up at a great xmas party at the Krayt Graveyard on Tatooine. There we will be joined by the third band on Chimaera, Star Bright. We very much hope to get a large crowd of spectators out into the desert, and there are also some surprises in store for everyone. You can find details about the SWING/Nebula X-Mas Tour as well as the Kraytmas Party in the events thread on the Chimaera board.
