Not sure how that would work. Seeing as Musicians are both the provider and sole user of the instruments, who would buy a new instrument rather than simply crafting a new one? I suppose if one Musician had higher quality resources to use and could put out an instrument no one else could, but I would think that would be a rare situation, rather than the norm.

There are, at least on Eclipse, a lot of instrument vendors, usually as compliments to a shop or mall. Instruments are often used for decorative purposes as well...many houses boast nalas in the parlor, and/or an ommni...and perhaps even a mando on the wall. Our shop there (and Springbok, best of luck with yours as well!) has sold some, will sell more.

Note on artisans making instruments...no thanks...been making my own and instruments for sale and friends since launch.

What does that mean?

Again, I ask...what does this mean?

Good points. Give it to artisans. But I would still have to insist that artisan would have to be that level music tech to make said instrument. Therefore the artisan would have to be a master musician to make the nalargon...with the experimental qualities, add-ons like bonus to wound healing, etc.

Unfortunetely I have not really gotten to know any DE's or BE's, or chefs...or Tailors for that matter on my server. Most entertainers can usually boast good relationships with some tailor's, but not as a wookiee.../sigh lol. But aye all chef stuff music aimed, including action school modifiers.

I have to say that if Artisans got to make our instruments and we couldn't anymore, that would probably be my last straw to make me give up Musician.

It would be great if they could make power-ups for them that required components made by us. I think that would be fitting in with the current scheme of things.

Springbok, thank you for having brought up the whole thing about an Entertainer's shop. I was, in fact, so tickled with the idea that I'm working on it myself outside Theed on Starsider. I wouldn't call it ready to have its grand opening yet, but I'm having more fun getting the stuff together to do it than I have in a long time.

My husband's old character, that I've been using as an alt since about five months after launch when he quit, is a Master Artisan/Merchant, and I'm slowly working on Droid Engineer with him. I've wanted to for a long time for little things like storage and medical droids, and this last desire to have Entertainer droids on tap was just too much. It's gonna take me a while...I don't do crafting macros. I'm crazy and do it all by hand. My god, it takes a lot of resources!

He's also able to make the Carmelized Pkneb. I had some old bone and meat laying around from when I used to be a Bio-Engineer, and managed to get some Pkneb made that's around +10 to the Wound Healing (Dance) for about 15 minutes. Enough for if someone with really bad mind wounds/totally black-barredcomes by and needs some serious attention. And I'm working with one of the best chefs on the server about Corellian Ale. I'm really tickled about it. I'll probably just get his stock Ahrisa (for IDs) and Accarragm. There's also a food called Scrimpi that I'm interested in checking out, since it adds to Quickness. As a Musician, since I want to be able to drink Corellian Ale anyway, I'm interested in getting the Quickness I need to play hard for long periods of time from a food. Especially if T'ssolok ever works (the mind enhancement time reduction drink).

Still need to get with a tailor, but I'm working on that. I have an "odds & ends" vendor in there with itty-bitty one-type effect droids that I can make with my Novice Droid Engineer, batteries for them, the Weapon/Droid/General Item Crafting Tools that are very nice (had some copper laying around that was only good in conductivity, which is what determines that tool's effectiveness) at 14.85 rating. I plan on gathering schlock aluminum, steel and soft wood to put on there, for anyone wanting to craft instruments. I also raided the Bazzar and my backup stash of Fatigue Healing and Instrument Assembly clothing attachments.

All in all, I'm havng fun setting up a shop I figure won't get much traffic, but should give me some serious personal satisfaction from running. I'm calling it The Green Room, since that's the area backstage where performers prepare.

Time to go grind credits to be able to afford the base stock...mostly the clothes. I want to have as much +25 Wound Healing (Dance) & (Music) as I can get made, that isn't hotpants and striped pants. That seems to be what everyone else has. /yawn I want the leather-trimmed shirt, dresses, skirts, hats...even fleshwraps and leotards. When I had items that were less than +25, it was annoying trying to figure out what combo to wear to get the full bonus.

Pastorius. I originally posted this thread in complaining that its too bad that musicians dont get any xp whatsoever for crafting instruments, unlike docs with their buffs or scouts with their traps /camps. However you do get music xp, I however have long since maxed out my music xp so could never tell a difference. Hence the "nvm im an idiot" edit i made.

Excellent stuff Tarot.

Some people wonder why this business would work, as others have posted...you can just make your own...well true, but not if you want to play the instrument when it becomes available, then you HAVE to buy one. Not to mention people are more willing to buy (especially players just giving up combat, but are veterans or others who have the money) a backpack with all 10 instruments (including the mandoviol) for 25k than pay 18.5k for the 10 instruments seperately. You can do either on my vendors. The backpacks sell WAY more. And no its not hot traffic per se, but I sell about 10 instruments / or a backback per day on average.

Now when you get a MDE with 30 droids on one vendor all made specifically for entertainment, modules wise, another vendor with BE foods and drinks, and a tailor vendor with clothes galore, and a lot of those clothes with BE music/dance wound healing mods on them?

Now your not talking instruments only, your talking your one stop shop for all things entertainer. Not to mention its a good feeling (albiet vain perhaps) that a very good portion of the instruments on the server today have Nikiro (my musician/entertainer/merchant) in their names.

Edit: Another use for backpack deals I have marketed: I have recently begun to put 10 instruments, and a couple loud speakers, and some stand alone lights (for stage lighting) in packbacks and tried to market those for those seeking to buy a cantina set for pa's.

My shop is for fun, it pays for the overhead price to run it / make the instruments, etc. I don't make my money with my instrument shop, and I run specials all the time (put one credit warm hats on a vendor as a "free" addition, etc., referrals, someone buys from me, and then emails me they bought because <name> referred them to my shop, i tip them. All manners of attracting a small customer base to a specialty shop...

Springbok, yes..that's exactly what we've done with this...go for the full-service shop. We're now talking about, as we see the cash flow to support it, going a little further and perhaps offering a limited line of BE clothing. So far sales are exceeding our expectations, and on Eclipse at least, the concept seeme to be well received
