I love being a Master Musician/Master Entertainer on Eclipse....

> Playing in the starports while people wait for the shuttle. I always get someone listening and occasionally get tipped. People are bored there and are very grateful for the entertainment.

> Seeing people's reaction to live groups... they are often amazed when they hear people singing, playing something other than SW1, or playing the nalargon.... I draw a crowd just by setting mine up!

> Getting a bunch of Master Musicians together and letting people hear a song with all the instruments represented. The crowd goes wild!

> Hearing the variety of songs you can get out of a "song" just by varying the flourishes. Everyone has their own take on which flourishes sound good to them and it is great to let someone else do the bandflo's and hear a whole new song.

> I love the mandoviol ! (especially playing SW1 hehe) And the flourishes are really fun. Another crowd-pleaser.

> Waltz and ballad on the chid horn are fantastic!

> Just interacting with people and having fun, meeting new folks and watching all the stuff going on around me.

> Performing gigs and brightening up someone's mall or special event.

I'm not a man, I'm not your bro, don't call me son or sir. I'm a woman IRL. Treat me like one.

I love meeting new people

I love playing ceremonial on a mando waiting on a shuttle (and getting tipped 150k cuz he's never heard that song or seen a mando b4)

I love getting a random group of 5-10 aTk musicians/dancers in a group and jamming

I love taking a n00b by the hand and teaching them the ins and out of the proffession (and tell tthem AFK'ing ewill TEF you hehe)

I really enjoy trying out new combos of flo's trying in vain to recreate favorite RL songs

I love going to an out of the way cantina, and watching people come in shocked, that there is not onloy an ent there, but an aTk one. (I especially enjoy the tips they give)

I am glad SOE took a chance on our class. Yes it is bugged, yes it has problems. But is the first time a game had anything like us, and I am glad for that.

With the mood around here currently at a low, it's time to give this a bump...

I got thefollowing in-game mail about 3 weeks ago, and it really cheered me up and gave mea much-needed morale boost, because it proves that entertainers still can do their job, and there are still people who appreciate us.

A bit of explanation: the band I'm in on Chimaera, Nebula, is doing gigs almost every friday in front of either Bestine or Theed starports. We'll just set up near the entertainer trainer (Bestine) or at the fountain between spaceport and shuttleport (Theed) and do a show lasting about 1.5 - 2 hours, going through our songs and challenging the starprot spammers. And we never fail to draw a crowd... And so far reactions have been very positive almost every week. People love seeing a real band perform a coordinated and planned set. For most of them it's a completely new experience when they see us for the first time, something they didn't even know was possible and existed within SWG (becausemostof themknow their musicians only from the various AFK crowds in NPC cantinas).

These shows are what have made us known, and what bring in a few new fans every week. They are what provides us with regular paid gigs, and those who have seen us play are quite happy to pay our not exactly trivial fees (200k) so we'll perform at their events.

Now, to what I wanted to tell you about... In Bestine a few weeks ago, while performing I got a /tell from someone basically saying "Hi there, I'm new, how do I tip you?". Turns out it was aguy who had just been playing SWG for a day or two and was still trying to find his way around. So after I'd explained the /tip command to him, every member of the band recieved a tip of 50 credits. Most of them were somewhat amused about it until I explained it in grpchat, and then they all thought it a very nice gesture (because it really is the thought that counts. We were at our usual group size that evening - around 10 musicians and dancers - and 500cr can be a lot of money for a total newbie).

About a week later I received the following ingame mail (copied here in it's entirety):

hi ailar, talking to Babe Boo in cantina, and she said if I e-mail you, that you could put me on a mailing list with details of when you guys are playing?
I'm not sure you'll remember me, I saw you guys a few weeks ago in Bestine, I was new and didn't even know how to tip?
That night I made my decision that I LOVE SWG
I enjoyed myself immensely that night, thanks to you guys.

Cheers.
Anasyn

Now that message cheered me up more than I can tell you, and it's what keeps me determined to hold on to my profession for as long as anybody at all is willing to listen. There is respect and appreciation out there to be had - many people will be very happy for the welcome change you can provide if you just break out of the cantina and try to perform. We don't have to be merely bf-healers and buffers.

1.) I actually like the music, of course listening to someone playing SW1 on an unflourished slitherhorn makes my ears bleed, but still. All songs have an instrument they sound great with. And it's funny how patrons still regularly cliam to have never heard this song even though we play the same few songs for about a year now.

2.) I liked the cantinas being the gossip centers of the galaxy, and us entertainers being able to help out a lot of people just because there was always someone just ranting about this or that game mechanic just a bit earlier. And of course gossiping on the entertainer group chat.

3.) I like playing in a big band with a full set of horns and enough bandfill/evil boxes to hold up against it.

4.) As I'm not that experienced with RP (I think Kwee called this 'Incompetent Roleplayer'), playing music helps a lot and gives me a purpose as well.

5.) I love the Evil Box (some call it Ommni), even though it's evil.

6.) Playing at starports is fun, and to some degree I'm even happy that we can't heal there, so it plainly states that I only play because I like to do so, and maybe to entertain some of the other people waiting. Especially with the MM tag on.

7.) Last but not least I like getting less 'attention' (a.k.a. harassment) playing music than with dancing, but can't see much of a difference on tips.

No, no, I call it the Evil Box, but it's so evil I try never to touch it.

Not being a fan of the horns (since there are too danged many of them) the Chindinkula (probably spelled wrong) with the Jazz song sounds great
