Thread: What do you like best about being a Musician?

With apologies to Panthu, who posted a similar poll over in the Dancer forum, I'm curious to hear what people *like* about being a Musician. I know we've got lots of legitimate complaints: we desperately need new songs and instruments, better gig missions, more content, a better buff UI, working theaters,at-the-keyboardbandmates, etc. Butin this thread I'd like to ask aboutthe positive. For one thing, it'sgood to tell the devs what players like as well as what they don't.More to the point, I'm curious. Please, positive posts only; we have plenty of other lively threads that emphasize what we don't like.

Me, I like, in no particular order:

1. "Virtuoso" with nalargon, bandfill, and chid horn only.

2. "Star Wars 1" with mando only.

3. "Folk" with a horn and drums only.

4. "Rock" with drums only -- a drum solo.

5. Crashing my cantina by (1) doing light effects, (2) setting my droid to do effects, (3) getting a dancer to do effects, and (4) getting someone to light fireworks nearby.

6.My music droid, Sonny.

7. I like being the center of attention in the cantina. Well, if there's no dancer around. If there's a dancer around, I'm never the center of attention, lol.

8. I like dressing up like James Dean on TC and TC2 these days.

9. I like dueling armed only with a slitherhorn.

Pretty much all of the above. But I also love Waltz with my mando and my droid My effects droid "Roadie" is pretty good stage companion too.

Dueling with a Mando and not breaking a single string is the best.

It's the 2nd best Entertainer profession to make decent money. (It used to be my #1 Entertainer profession until the ID revamp where ID can charge 50k for a Stat Migration... which is insane, but hey, what can we do? SOE revamped the ID, so now Master ID's can abuse the system)

*ahem*

Back to Musician... Charging 10k for a buff is quite good. Not as payful as being a Doctor or any other profession, but at least you get to socialize with the people you're buffing for at least 10 minutes.

Besides... women love guys playing the Mandolin (That guitar instrument, grr I forgot how we spell it)

Performing with my band, Nebula...

simply setting up outside Theed or Bestine starports on a random evening (well, usually fridays), and drawing a large crowd within minutes

Or being paid to play in a packed player cantina for a few dozen people, and half of them jumping in unison because we tell them to

(I do hope the secondlink works again soon - my provider's webspace server was down as I wrote this. Apologies if you get a broken link. That pic can also be seen here)

I like the core gameplay of musician. It's something I've done in other games, where there was no play mechanic behind it. I remember back when I played EQ, getting bored with the leveling and camping, so I'd take my bard back to town, brew up some booze, get drunk, and then pull out my flute and start jamming with it. People rushing around, going to the bank, and I'm dancing with my flute. Started screaming I was handing out free booze, just acting insane, jamming on my flute, making a crowd gather. When you were drunk in that game, you'd slide left and right and your speech would become more and more slurred. Somebody reported me to the GMs for this behavior, oddly. I learned that GMs could get drunk! They would slide left and right, but no matter how much they drank their speech wouldn't become slurred. "Keep trying!" I remember telling the GM, handing her more booze. "Here, drink some more!" I was always "performing" like that, it sort of alleviated the boredom.

To tell the average hologrinder that I have musician to keep me from getting bored with the dungeons and missions, they probably just wouldn't understand. I like that I can do this in this game, and there's a purpose to it... and other people do it too.

Here is what I like.

Going to the Minning Outpost on Dantoonie, and just sitting outside playing my horn, watching people and the spam. I do this for some 14 hours a day. *shrugs* Just wierd like that I guess.

I do like doing mind buffs...too bad cant do them on ourselves.

and I LOVE the waltz song on the chid horn. ITs my favorite.

Thank you.

I've enjoyed talking to many a weary traveller/combatant and finding out what they've been up to. I find out the best places to get stuff, and try to provide information to people who inevitably ask assorted questions, likewhere to find trainers in the city. It's a lot of fun to have people come by just to say hey, and ask a question or two while on their way to some random adventure - maybe even slip me a little loot that they picked up recently.

I'm also a big fan of being able to bust out my Nalargon at starports and shuttleports, to provide some entertainment while people wait for their transportation. It makes those 10 minute starport waits a little more bearable - and calms down those people who just *barely* missed the shuttle. I always get a good laugh when I see folks around me suddenly start clapping (when they start listening to me), and it sort of just spreads throughout the crowd, one after another starts clapping, until I have quite a little audience going.

My favorite instrument is the Nalargon. I love the animations (jumping up on the keys, and so forth) and the sound of it - especially on Virtuoso. 2nd to that is Mandoviol, if only Master Musicians could play it - but that's for another discussion

Just discovered how cool Virtuoso sounds on a bandfill.

I love when people ask me things like, wow what is that music, never heard it before.

That and impromptu concerts waiting for shuttles.

I really enjoy working with the people in Galaxies. By and large the other players are good people, and I love to listen to them talk about where they've been and what they're up to. I enjoy debating politics with Imperial passersby and trying to convert them to the light side. Today I was entertaining in the Bestine cantina and a Master Chef actually got behind the bar and roleplayed a bartender...it was great!

All in all, my favorite thing about Musician is that it is a forum for building community, and that is the most important thing to me.

My second-favorite thing is a tie between Kloo horn and Nalargon...probably because those have always been my two favorite instruments from the movies. The Kloo horn has its very cool and distinctive shape which to me is more Star Warsie than most of the other instruments, and the Nalargon--well, lets just say Max Rebo is my hero! (ooo, ooo! Great idea! They should make Ortolan one of the new species! )

I could list another 10 favorite things about the Music profession and still be getting started, but I'll settle for one more. My third favorite thing about Musician is the music itself. I play all the music on all of the instruments, and though I do pine for new songs, I manage to keep myself interested in what we have simply by trying pieces with new flourishes longer/shorter pauses, etc. It may not be the most popular opinion around, but I actually like the music we have.

Another fun thing to do is ask audiences for requests on song/instrument! Most people have never had such an offer made to them and many will stick around to hear all the songs. It's a lot of fun and a great surprise for the audience. hehe it usually brings in the tip money too.

I dunno what I like. Sometimes it's one of the few professions where grinding can be at least somewhat fun, as long as everyone else isn't AFK.

SW3 is probably my fav. song, especially with traz+mando+bandfill. Very ub3r song.

Singing songs is fun too, because only entertainers can /sing. Everyone else can hump macro. I prefer /rap though, but everyone can do that. Guess it's a lame message saying that everyone can rap because it sucks... or just a bug.

I like being able to just sit back and relax, I hit my macro button (I know, I know) and then I sit and talk to the people. I thought Musician/Dancer was supposed to be a social profession. I don't have to rely on Docs for buffs (just migrate your stats), I don't have to spam for training, it's generally at a single question in group chat that I can find out who can train. I can jump up and grab the phone without having to worry on whether I'm going to die cause I'm not paying full attention or run to the WC or to the frig to grab a coke or something. Having fun, relaxing.

Besides I've got a second account that does all the killing, and to me running mission after mission, well it drives me insane.

I just wish people would tip more often. I think I made a whooping 6 credits one day and most other days nothing. Are we or are we not providing a service to the galaxies? I generally always (75%+)tipped my entertainers. SorryI didn't mean for this to be a griefing post.

But I do so much enjoy this profession, for it's relax function to it.
