Thread: Why you need Image Design & Dance for master Entertainer.
I can understand the point that a Master Musician should be able to play every instrument in the game, but I think that it is muchmore important to make every master title useful. And btw, playing the mandoviol obviously requires some dancing skills =)
If the only unique bonus for Master Entertainers would be some new effects or flourishes, it wouldn't really be something to work towards. But a new instrument actually means something and is unique enough to make people proud of their achievements. And nothing stops a Master Musician from also becoming a Master Entertainer.
The Master Entertainer skillbox isa lot the Master Artisan or anyother Master skillbox. All the master level skillboxes for the basic professions provide a significant and tangible reward that those who went straight into an elite profession can not do or use. Some of these perks are more useful than others. Why should entertainers be any different?
For example, a master artisan can make things that are needed by almost every elite artisan profession.A master entertainer has access to dances, instruments and songs an elite entertainer profession does not. If you look at most of the "Master" skill boxes, they are all similiar in that respect.
Specializing and going straight to an elite profession saves you skill points which you can roll into another profession. Generalizing gives you something that the elite profession doesn't have at the cost of skill points and time spent working on things you might never use.
As for the mandoviol and the flourishes for using it, you might need some dancing skill to perform with it over and above what you gain as a novice entertainer. Don't ask me where image design fits in.
For those musicians who want to play a stringed instrument, ask the developers to add one to the musician skill tree instead of taking the musican related perk from master entertainer.
PS: Yes, I play an entertainer and a master artisan.
Ooooh, someone's got his knickers in a twist. Again: explain how having an INSTRUMENT unavailable to a MASTER MUSICIAN makes sense. You can't because it makes *zero* sense. I notice you chose not to respond to that bit. How shocking.
As for ME having a reward, fine, I agree that they *should* have a reward but giving them an instrument that cannot be played be MASTER MUSICIANS isn't a fair reward. Period.
Oh and I've yet to see *anyone* that is not an ME or on his/her way to being an ME say that the setup is fair. And, sorry, a Master Musician who is also an ME does *not* equalify.
I didn't respond, because I thought it was obvious. You seem to think that someone who is a Master Musician must hold domain over everything that makes pleasant sounds. That is ridiculous. There is more to playing an instrument than simply working the device. If you have seen the flourishes, you will observe that the Mando is an ENTERTAINER'S instrument. The flourishes are all about wow-factor, and less about sound. You need to be a consummate professional entertainer to use it. While a Master Musician may technically know how it works, he or she will never be able to get the same kind of effect out of it that a Master Entertainer can.
Again, any musician that is not an Entertainer has not earned the right to use this device. If you look upon it less as a musical instrument and more like an entertainment device, the distinction becomes clear.
Bulbous - my post was meant for Hijo. I thought that wasclear but next time I will either quote text or be more specific in my response. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Now to your post, sorry it is *not* ridiculous to think that a MASTER Musician should be able to play any instrument. Your argument about flourishes and the mandoviol being an "entertainer's instrument" holds no water. Will a Master Musician put on as good a show as a Master Entertainer? Possibly not, but that is beside the point. The MASTER MUSICIAN will still be able to play the INSTRUMENT. You can rationalize all you like but you'll never get around that basic fact.
"Again, any musician that is not an Entertainer has not earned the right to use this device."
I'm sorry but this statement is asinine. I realize you've taken the time to become a Master Entertainer and you *do* deserve a reward but come on...
Well, then we agree to disagree. I think that it is blatantly obvious that the Mando needs a certain amount of "street smarts" that even a Master Musician would lack. The MM may have the skills to make sounds from the instrument, but will not be able to please crowds with it enough to gain XP. Many Musicians have the technical skills necessary to play many if not all instruments, but they lack the performance skills necessary to bring those Instruments to life in a meaningful way.
If you want the Mando, it is available to you at any time. Practice your skills, and I will be glad to show you how to dazzle the crowds with it.
Master Entertainer - Knows how to entertasin people using all sorts of Techniques including the Mandavol
Master Musician - Knows about musical instruments, uses specialized instruments, but may specialize in more formal instruments like the Mandavil.
An example: The violinist who doesn't play the guitar. THe violinist may be a virtuoso, but never learned the guitar. Different skill set.
I took the time to broaden my entertainment skills to get the Mandavol, it is not that hard people, dancing isn't bad and image design really only required the cooperation of some friends. The 5k to train master was the hardest hit!
"For example, a master artisan can make things that are needed by almost every elite artisan profession."
but a master droid maker can make all the droids.
and a master weaponsmith can make all the weapons.
and master musician can play ... some ... of the instruments.
"I took the time to broaden my entertainment skills to get the Mandavol, it is not that hard people ..."
i don't think that ppl are objecting to the exp it takes to get their instrument, exp is an unlimited resource so it's just a matter of time to achieve. the real problem with it is the skill point hit since skill points are limited.
i'm very very close to ME now ...i gotta play my axe, man ... but ME is the wrong place to put it as a reward.
Wrong.
I am NOT a master entertainer. I am however a novice musician. I believe that if I want those things, I should do the work and make the sacrifices to become a master entertainer. I'm not sure if I will yet or not.

You've seen one now. I am not currently planning to become a Master Entertainer, but I am planing on becoming a Master Musician. I don't think I have the skill points I want to spare for Master Entertainer, and I also think it is appropriate and right that if I am not a MASTER entertainer, there be certain things - dances, instruments, song types, etc. that I don't "master."
Typically when you make all or nothing statements, you're guarunteed to look dumb and be proven wrong. Just accept the fact that not everyone agrees with your point of view, and not everyone agrees with mine. But the people who don't agree with me are not ignorant and stupid, likewise the people who don't agree with you.

So what are you planning on spending skill points on? You can't be everything. Straight Musicians are different from all around entertainers. If you want to be an entertainer, thats a different skill set than being a master musician.
To paint an example:
Yo-Yo Ma is an master musician. Nobody can disagree with that statement. He is not a master entertainer, like, say Wayne Newton. Wayne Newton is a heck of a good entertainer, but not a master musician. Wayne Newton plays the lowly guitar, but Yo-Yo Ma does not. Can Yo-Yo ma learn the guitar? Sure. I bet he would smoke Wayne in a battle of the bands. Guess what, Yo-Yo didn't spend the points to learn the skill.
