I had someone come into the Moenia Cantina today and ask me the same question... A TKA novice comes in, sits down to listen tothe three of us who were in at the time playand was like

"Why are you guys musicians?"

So I asked him "Why are you a TKA?"

He replied "2 fight and kill things"

My reply: "And what do you do when you're not fighting and killing things?"

No response was forthcomming.

I'm keeping my entertainer/musician skill points no matter what else I want to do. The chance to just chill and have a chat with other entertainers is a big part of the enjoyment of this game for me. I hope other players feel the same way.

i beat the holorush by about a month... which makes me very glad... many of the holotainers are far too whiney about my profession for my liking

Definitly me (long way still to go to master though). Heck, musician is the first thing that interested me (and still does).

Formerly:
Pedr-Dwl Wibble - Gunslinging tracker for hire on Farstar - Staff Cpl, Imperial auxillary
Elisa von-Smolloff - Pyromaniac bird of Infinity - Cpl, Rebel special forces
Now gone.
Doesn't see the point of a bile-venting "I'm leaving" thread.

I started an artisan/medic on Starsider as soon as I could get past the registration server (and have since mastered both, if you want to visit my shop, please do. I am at 184 -6323 on Corellia) however when I returned to my University this fall (August), I found that due to an entertainment filter on the campus internet, I couldn't play Galaxies without MAJOR lag. Then I found that Bria didn't lag nearly as much as Starsider, so I started a character on Bria thinking I would do combat with him because of my somewhat docile Starsider avatar. I picked up music as a sideline when I couldn't find anyone in Mos Entha to heal my mind. Soon after I started entertaining, I found it to be so much fun I realized that I just HAD to go all the way to Master Musician. After about a month of typing in every flourish, I discovered how to make effective macros. With macros I was able to interact with my customers much better. Then I my computer's internet died completely for a couple ofmonths. Now, the school seems to have relaxed the internet filters and I am able to play both of my main characters freely. I just Mastered Musician a little over a week ago.

The sum of all these events means that I spent about four months working toward this, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I can think of several reasons to stick with this career: As a musician, I learn about all sorts of game functions bugs exploits and gossip long before most people, I meet people from all over the galaxy who are able to provide me with the things I need, I get to read all the bios that come through, and I get the chance to roleplay whenever I am around a group of RP'ers.

ACK! I went on far longer here than I should have, the blocks of text above look somewhat intimidating. Congrats on making it through.

I have been ME/MD/MM since I got the masters, two or three months after release. I don't intend to change that, not even for the totally failed version of a Jedi selection system. It's fun to jam with friends, it was ( and maybe will be ) fun to log in, go into your cantina and find a group of friends there. A lot of dancers, musicians, some tailors, some medics and whatever they brought to the mix as others classes they had mastered.
I don't want combat or action from this game. I do have a rifleman on Ahazi and a Combat Medic on Infinity, because hologrinding macrotainers ruined a lot of my fun, but if I want combat and action, I play BattleField1942.

>PS - Wouldn't it be cool if a musician could have a "mezmerizing" song that influences combatants in battle?

No. The developer response on this was "Entertainers are not bards". My response would be the same. We aren't meant for battle and if you like to be in battle, take another class for it. Maybe Musician/Rifleman or something else.

Compared to the masses in the cantina you will probably find relativly few macrotaining hlogrinders here. I guess if it's too much to actually play the game, reading the forum for a class they let their character go through by an annoying macro isn't worth their precious time.

I have a macro responding to forum posts for me. I just go to sleep or work and my cat types in sarcastic and witless posts with my name on them. It accounts for my terribly low star rating.

I started as an entertainer/marksman just before Christmas as I'm a musician in RL and thought it would be cool to play Star Wars music in cantinas.

Mostly I was proved right. I am currently Ent 0404 & Musician 0101 and am proud to say I've not AFK'd once other than to go and make a cup of tea...

I like nothing better than to spend a few hours in a cantina (especially Anchorhead & Twin Suns) after an evenings missioning about. If I find a cantina with real players I will join in the fun. I've had some great times chilling out having a laugh with the folks on-line.

It's a great aspect of the game that more people should enjoy.

I have been a musician from day one. I will always be one. It's just who I am. The mind healing and buffing is very useful and people forget that you can buff minds in a camp on long hunts. Just my 2 cents

I'm an entertainer since week 1, got master ent, then master musician, and will NEVER surrender it. And I'll be the happiest when they give us new songs and intruments
