Thread: SOLUTION TO CU! REVOLUTION!!

just to clear this up as it seems you might be a bit confused...
We no longer will buff anything.
The only thing we will do is heal BF.
And there is NOTHING we can do about it. Except find a new game... I wonder how that matrix one is..
- The Mind pool is being removed, so we won't have anything to buff. UNTRUE. The mind pool will not be attackable, but it will still be there. One of the secondary pools is being removed, but the other one (regeneration) is still there. Is there any reason to think that we won't still be able to buff that pool (leaving the primary pool to the dancers)?
- Health buffs will be the only ones in the game after the CU. UNTRUE. As stated in a handful of places throughout the overview posted yesterday, stats such as wind-up time and cool-down time (new elements of gameplay) can be affected by buffs. Isn't it the least bit possible that with these new types of buffs being added, ours will be adjusted as well?
- Even if mind buffs were still around, no one would want them. YET TO BE SEEN. The mind pool will be used for specials, so having a nice little bonus to the mind pool (or regeneration of the mind pool) could be a very vital part of the combat experience. We have no way of knowing what role the mind pool will play in the new system because no one has played it yet.
So honestly now, what am I missing? What is it that everyone is seeing and grabbing on to to feed thier conspiracy theories that I'm just not seeing? I want to scream...
DarkY0da wrote: It looks to me like buffs and de-buffs are going to be done in combat as part of combat. While there will be some like the health buffs likely done before combat. And that reducing steps needed to get into combat is a goal. So that as the saying goes they can kill two birds with one stone.(combat fun, quicker and no more bots). It also looks to me like they have no current solid plans to replace anything for entertainers as they have just given us intial replacement stuff by way of new songs and dances. But that they think it will likely be needed and that when the time comes they will change things and create something for us. This could all of course be colored by the tiny bit extra I have seen that is still under NDA and could very well not look that way to anyone else and be taken as flights of fancy and the sky is falling... But knowing this Development team and the last 2 + years. And looking at what has been said there I think they have given us enough of a good reason to worry a little bit.
“Combat Upgrade Update We looked at the current combat system in SWG and iterated designs several times to be sure that it is on target with your input for the system and for our overall mission which is to make SWG more fun, more accessible (easy to understand, hard to master) and Star Wars-centric. During this process we worked to make every system easier to understand, more engaging and more fun to play.”
So far, I don't see anything that should worry me as a musician.
“The only wounds a player can receive are health wounds. All other wound types will be removed from the game.”
Yes, this means no more mind wounds for us to heal, and I agree that it kinda sucks. But from my perspective, people have to come to us to get BF healed anyways, which was always done at the same time... I don't think we'll see a tremendous drop in patronage here (depending on how the new system deals with BF... it is of course completely plausible to assume that the BF system won't change and people could care less whether or not they have it).
“• Short term buffs will modify this health value no more than 20%.
• Long term buffs will modify this health value no more than 10%.”
Obviously this is a lot different than what we're used to, but that's what makes it an optional thing instead of a required thing. That 20% could make all the difference in PVP though, especially if you're talking about a 20% boost to your ability to do specials... we don't know yet though.
“The profession trees for Entertainers, Musicians, Dancers and Image Designers will be affected by the Combat Upgrade, and will likely need some profession tweaking because of the changes with wounds, stat migration and buffs to the mind. We will make adjustments to entertainers by creating some long lasting, minor buffs for combat professions.”
This just sounds, to me, like a disclaimer to the "entertainer changes are outside the scope of the CU" statement. They're basically saying that while the combat professions are getting rebuilt from the ground up, entertainers aren't, although there might be some modifications made so that they make sense in the context of the CU. I don't see this as a bad omen. I don't see it as a good omen either, I just don't think it has any sort of meaning right now. It does at least show that they know the CU will impact us and they are prepared to deal with it.
(then they list our recent content addition as the initial changes/tweaks.)
I'm not sure why they did this, and frankly it irked me a bit too. It frankly made no sense in the context of the rest of the document, but oh well.
“Food, spices, and medications will be altered to conform to the new rules.”
Obviously. Should be just as obvious that entertainer buffs and entertainer healing will be altered as well.
“Wearing advanced armor will apply de-buffs to your character such as slower movement, accuracy penalties, etc. Armor with basic cores will not apply de-buffs.”
Do you wear armor when you play your nalargon? I sure don't. But hey, if I did, this would be good news, 'cause it means I could wear basic armor without burning through my action pool faster.
“The group UI will be re-worked so that you can see the buffs and de-buffs applied to other group members.”
I'm not sure this necessarily means that buffs will be a mid-combat sort of thing, though I wouldn't be surprised if they were. I think this is more like a group-oriented buff window, like the one we have right now for ourselves, but that will show us what the status of our group's enhancements are as well. Even that is conjecture though.
I still don't see anything that can once-and-for-all convince me that I should throw out my kloo horn. We might see less traffic, sure, but frankly, I look forward to that, because the people that we'll be entertaining will be there because they want to be entertained, not because the game essentially requires that they interact with us. Combat-folk have long lamented that requirement, especially so when hologrinding and AFK bots became the norm. We should be seeing this as a good thing, but instead we're all obsessed with what's being taken away from us. "No wait!"we're all screaming. "I know combatants hate us and we hate the combatants but don't make them leave us!" Absolutely fascinating.
you were wrong, tom. you were wrong.
Nice Idea, but it would never work...
Even if EVERYtruely dedicatedentertainer partisipated.. All the buffbots (ran by combatants who hate having show Entertainrs alittle respct) would still be up and running.. making money because they are there when we are not.

Its sad but I don't need to be beat in the head with a 2x4 to see where everything is heading. I just can't justify the pay to play the wait and see game. My thoughts right now is to cancel the EU party tonight but as I think about it, I think a couple farewell blowouts can't hurt either, but thats also depressing...
I'll be there tonight though, I need to talk to our people and see what they are doing...
Yeah, I'll be logging in until the end of my billing period. And, if I don't like what I see by April 5th or so, I'll cancel before they charge me again. But, in the meantime, I gotta see what all the ents are doing and if anybody has any suggestions for other games.

I have an Initech coffee mug with the logo on one side, and "Is This Good for theCOMPANY?" on the opposite side.
I like to walk up to a friend's desk every so often with it and say, "Alyssa...whaaaat's happening..."
