Thread: What Question for the week of June 21?

Gknee, thanks for your post. You're of course right that constructive dialogue achieves more than ranting. I've generally tried to be a pretty "upbeat" Correspondent, to the point that I've often been more upbeat than most people here. My style is generally conciliatory: if you scan my thousand-odd posts, you'll find very few rants. That's how I see my proposal for a new dev: as a constructive proposal to address an endemic problem. Since Holocron left, we've had no dev championing our cause.

I also have a duty to represent the players, and I've never seen Musicians this unhappy. I mean, look around: this forum abounds with threats of boycotts, in-game protests, sit-ins, mass-mailing campaigns, and a rather tempting proposal to ask no question at all. I've never seen it this bad, and I've been reading this forum every day for the past eleven months. The Entertainer forum is the same way. I owe it to the devs to report what I see here, and what I hear in-game.

Yes, as Correspondent I always try to see the big picture. I just see arather depressing big picture. In one corner of the picture, I see two significant improvements in the past year, the two you cite. The biggest part of the picture, though, has always been the music (to mix a metaphor). To me, that's what makes our profession. That part of the picture has beenfrozen for 11 months, and will remain that way for months more. Worst of all, I see that our big picture has been invaded by robots over the past year, as AFK'ers and buffbots have invaded our cantinas.

Anyway, my proposal has already fallen to the bottom of the Correspondent Forum, and it will surely die a gentle death, so I guess we can agree to move on to other things.

What about a question about the "target" instruments. I just ended up cussing and ranting at someone who repeated stole my instruments until they disappeared. That is SO annoying!!

The "targeting" issue is indeed #5 on our current top-five list, so that would seem like a good candidate for a question pretty soon. Actually, I see a couple of issues: (1) having to keep the ommni/nalargon targeted, (2) "stealing" of the ommni and nalargon, and (3) the somewhat related issue of player theaters. Can you play an ommni/nalargon onstage at a theater now? I haven't tried in ages because I got so annoyed at the theater the last time I tried it.

Keep the ideas for a question coming, folks.

I tried last week and could not use an Ommni Box on a player theater stage.

During our Jam tonight in front of Theed Starport, I was playing a Nalargon, and some guy just walked up and swiped it out from under me. I kept playing without it, though - as if it was still there. That's an annoying problem. Fairly positive he did it purposefully, buy I just did a /makeleader and kept the bandflo's going, switched to my Chid horn, and picked up the Nalargon without really missing a beat. It was annoying, though - should have anticipated that.

maybe we could ask something about this Popularity Rank that is part of the new Entertainer Quest.... I know they will not want to tell us any spoilers but I would like to know how interconnected this PR thing is......... though I am thinking it probably has no significance other than a name at all...

My question:

"Can Musician buffs be fixed so that we know we actually buffed someone? An elite profession who buffs should not have to rely on the honesty of their customer to know if their buff worked or not. Can anyone else see that another player's mind secondaries are buffed? Yeah, neither can we - and it's a serious problem that has neither been addressed nor recognized as a problem. Dancers see the primary mind pool bar extend when their buff is applied - Musicians have to blindly trust the honesty of their customer."

I would really really really like to have this recognized as a problem with the profession. We should (at the very least) have a message that says, "Youenhance SWGPlayer's Focus and WIllpower by 900." An alternative (or additional) solution would be to provide something similar to what Docs get when they heal/buff - the white symbol that falls on their patient's head. This shouts to those nearby "A Doc is buffing and/or healing!" We need like a blue version of that (to differentiate between Doc heals) to fall on our customer's heads while we're buffing. This benefits players AND entertainers because:

1) We know if people aren't listening/watching. We will also know if the buff is being applied correctly. With weapons equipped, there's no clapping - no visual cue they're listening or watching. Blue thing not falling on their head, the buff isn't being applied, they need to start listening or watching us. Blue thing falling on their head, the buff is being applied.

2) Indication to players who run into the cantina looking for buffs that an Entertainer IS currently buffing. When I need a Doc buff, I look for the white symbol falling on people's heads at starports. Then I get in line. If we had blue symbols falling on our customer's heads while we Entertainment buffed, we'd have no more Cantina spam of "Anyone alive in here?!?!?!??! ANY ENTERTAINERS BUFFING???!!!!! COME ON NEEDBUFFS!!!!!!!!!!" The players will KNOW if entertainers are buffing.

NJ the targeting issue was already answered awhile back. Same with the theater.

If i remember correctly they said that the ommni and the nala cannot be fixed without a lot of work.

the theater wont be fixed at all. Look at last weeks answer to the architect question about patio furniture - it is the SAME thing. Instead of fixing that we cant place furniture up there, they are making preset templates perhaps.

So in summation- No and No.

I don't remember them ever giving us an official answer on the "targeting" problems. Informally hey've told me that it ain't likely to change, but I don't remember them saying that officially and publicly.

If we asked about theaters, what specific question(s) would you propose? FYI, if TH follows the usual pattern, we have to submit the question this Monday.

NJ i would point TH to this thread:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Ahazi&message.id=304993

then ask him what they are going to do to fix entertainers asap so this will change

or maybe to my vision doc idk

The devs have specifically asked that this week's question be relatively "focused." They say they don't want big philosophical questions this week. Don't worry, they know full well that we want more attention. They're well aware of the depth of our discontent. They do at least glance at this forum, even if they don't post in it. And all three entertainer correspondents have been on a campaign in the Correspondent Forum to draw attention to the plight of the entertainer.

So I need a focused question: a specific question about a specific aspect of gameplay. I think I need it by Monday, so please keep those ideas coming.

The end of the hologrind will not stop the buffbots from appearing because buffbots are usually alt accounts. Buffbots are ruining theeconomic viability of entertainers in SWG. How do you intend to fix this?

Short, sweet, to the point, and not philosophical.
