Oh, and this thread is about why the developers are ignoring the cantina players'issues. It's not about ID or entertainment missions. Can we get backon topic please?

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

"The devs probly care about Afkers but because of people like you they don't want to change it. You still pay them to play no matter what so why should they change it."

Hehe, boy did you pick the wrong guy tomake that argument to. I have news for you, I just reopened my account 6 months after having cancelled it. So I don't pay to play no matter what. I cancelled because of these issues and I'll cancel again if I don't see some real positive change. Others may complain and still play, but I'm not one of them. I will come back every so often, but unlike some folksI'm not going to keepwasting my money on SWG if SWG doesn't shape up.

If they take away my ability to create a macro where I compose my lyrics to flourishes because someone is worried about AFK entertainers and buffbots, I will find a new profession. There is no way that I would be able to create thetiming and control of my performanceswithout being able to use the macro system. I do perform some songs where I hit the flourish then the macro for the lyrics at just the precise moment, but eventually I would like to get them timed into a macro as well. It's also important to have it so your hands are free to communicate to band members for the purposes of lining up next song and coordinating with dancers.

I'm eager to see what happens with entertainers after the holocron dies out. You should then only see new entertainers emerge who actually WANT to entertain.

I think the introduction of the new "entertainment" droids was a boost for our industry.

There are also some serious bugs that were created after the last big publish such as /startband, /change, and the ability to switch instruments during a performance without having to wait 20 seconds (not a bug, but a poor fix for the start/stop buffing that dancers were using to buff people in 30 seconds)...but these issues are for another post.

The combat professions don't really care how they get their battle fatigue or wounds healed. Furthermore, I would imagine that most of the buffbots were created by the combat professions (2nd account) so they have easy access to an entertainer to take care of their needs. They run their bot for their community as a service to the citizens. I'm almost certain this is their intent. I had one guy actually tell me that it would be better to turn the whole entertainment lines into NPCs. If that happened, our great social community would be dissolved.

/steps up on soapbox

There's a diverse group of people in the galaxy; some who enjoy stopping to appreciate a live performance, and those who would rather just move on and get back to their senseless beating of creatures or to the grossly unbalaced GCW.

No one is making this a better experience by flaming and arguing in posts. If we became a community where we provided just the facts, issues, and possible solutions then it might allow the correspondents and developers to move quickly through our issues. Rather than that, they are spending tons of hours listening to a bunch of sniveling whiners. <---this is one of the reasons I don't spend time in the forums myself as the true facts, issues and solutions become burried.

Make a difference in game, find the positive things that you can do for your community to better the entertainment industry. Post the real issues and facts and be patient. I have seen so many people quit and move on to the next game that provides them with the instant gratification they desire only to see them return because they missed the "community". That's what makes a difference, and that's what will keep SWG as one of the better mmoRPgs out there. This game does put the "role-play" back into mmoRPg. Only you can make a difference in your own experience. WE ARE THE CONTENT!

I don't know who suggested that this might be a preferable option, but I don't think anyone is suggesting anything of the kind. I doubt any performer would want to see macros done away with. As you say it would mean the end of the entertainer professions. What some have suggested is the end of 'recursive macros' - meaning the ability to make them automaticallystart over.

Beery, I see some of your points very clearly. I know they've gone through my mind too (quite often I might add.) But I've been defeated by my own negativity. I'm trying to stop myself from being so negative. Might I recommend the new4 step process to becoming a helpful disgruntled Musician. (I haven't followed all of them well, but I'm working on it! I kind of skipped to the fourth step...:biggrin

#1: Be courteous to all AFK-grinders (god I want to kill them) or any non-Musicians who do not understand our plight.

#2: Try to add constructive comments to any post to help aid in ideas to fix things. Even if the Devs don't read it now. There is the slightest of chances they might in the future and read something useful, and actually use it. (Bad example: TH's answer to a question we never sent in:smileyvery-happy

#3: Check out Warplex's thread on the issue of alerting SOE. Warplex definitely has a level head on those shoulders and I like his ideas for alerting SOE in a polite way. (I personally prefer bricks with messages tied to them of course :smileyhappy

#4: (The step I am taking into effect.) Plan on cancelling your account and alerting everyone as to why you are doing this. Try to give parting suggetions on how to fix things. And of course, come back in six months to see if anything has gotten better!

FarmerDozee, I've done all of those things a while ago. I'm always courteous to players in the game (unless they're rude to me first). I often add constructive suggestions. I've sent mail alerting SOE. I even cancelled my account rfor 6 months and I just came back last week to check things out. The problem is, positivity only goes so far. There comes a time when you realise that nothing positiveyou do is working. That time, for me, is now. Positivity doesn't work. The developers are more likely to do nothing if we just sit here and take their apathy. Now it's time for meto try a different approach. The developers are either incompetent, or they don't care about our issues - that much is clear. It's about time someone got the word out, because I see a lot of folks on these forums behaving as if the last thing they want to do is get a developer upset. The thing is, unlesss we get the developers upset, they're simply not going to do anything. Too many people are giving them a free ride while they run over us roughshod.

well, if you seem so adamant that nothing will change, then why are you still here?

i cant say that i like afking, or that it isnt a problem, but its really easy to avoid the macrotainers. instead of going to coronet, theed, bestine and other centers of macrotainers, go somewhere a bit more quiet, yet somewhat inhabited, like moenia, doaba guerfel, hell, even go to a player run cantina. if you're unwilling to do that, just deal with it, and well, if you cant, feel free to drop musician/dancer, im sure you could find another profession.

To a lot of us, that somewhat defeats the purpose of why we have chosen the entertainer professions. Moenia, Doaba Guerfel, Tyrena and such places see few, if none people stop by the cantina. It's hard to be social, when there is no one around to talk to.

Anyways, I believe the developers don't wanna stop AFK macrotainers because there is a fair amount of people running bots on secondary accounts. More money for the devs that way. Maybe I'm just cynical...

it may just be a matter of preference, but i really do like moenia and such, and well, it really isnt that hard to draw a small crowd, and well, to tell the truth, for me, the lag in coronet cantina is so bad, i cant go there anyways, so its not much of an option.

"well, if you seem so adamant that nothing will change, then why are you still here?"

I'm doing exactlywhat people herehave suggested I do- I dumped the game andcame back after 6 months to see if significant progress had been made. But it hasn't. Therefore it's clear to me, not that nothing will change, but that change will be excruciatingly slow.

"i cant say that i like afking, or that it isnt a problem, but its really easy to avoid the macrotainers. instead of going to coronet, theed, bestine and other centers of macrotainers, go somewhere a bit more quiet, yet somewhat inhabited, like moenia, doaba guerfel, hell, even go to a player run cantina."

I've tried this. In fact my favourite cantina is in Mos Entha. The problem is, there's no one - I mean NO ONE - to talk to. Clients are few and far between, clients in out of the way placestend to be ruder for some reason, and the tip system is so flawed that I can't make any money there.

"if you're unwilling to do that, just deal with it, and well, if you cant, feel free to drop musician/dancer, im sure you could find another profession."

I'm sorry, but that's not a serious option. I didn't buy this game to play the same old mass-creature-killing grind that I can find in any other MMORPG - that stuff is intensely boring to me. I may as well give up the game altogether. I bought this game to play a new kind of game - a game where you could advance through social play. Are you really saying that the game's social aspect - something that was touted by the developers as a major advance in gaming - is so broken that it's not even worth playing??? Now who's being pessimistic about the game?

Once holo's get converted into Rubik Cubes, theres gonna be alot less afk'ers, the only people playing or dancing will be people who want to do it. People who come to cantinas are going to have to be abit less choosy about who they listen too. If your that determined to get tips you can always deny service till people pay.

Personally i aint bothered about getting tips, im doing it for the fun of it.

Well, people playing or dancing because they want to do it and a growing bunch of Buffbot AFK macrotainers.
