I found out something the other day... something that made me feel dirty. I just switched over from RSF to SA, but forgot to deed my old ships. When I reached 1xxx I was able to launch and use my Dunie which I had been using as an RSF Ace... 2 level 6 guns, a level6 RECapacitor and Engine and a level 8 RE Shield. I immediately landed, stripped out my parts and loaded appropriate level parts into it, /bug'd the issue and went on my merry way.
This is an exploit, and one I hadn't heard about, and leads tosome interesting questions:
Won't changing the KSE RE to be 50k mass be meaningless if you don't change the ship? There is not a cert check on equipment, but is therea checkon mass after loading?
Actually, more than a few pilots jumping tracks will leave a Heavy Newb ship loaded with Ace gear and use it to regrind their original pilot path when they return. Calling it an exploit is questionable, since they loaded it as an Ace.
But using level 6-10 parts as a Novice/1xxx IS an exploit. You are purposefully going around the way things are intended to be.

Yeah, unless SOE comes along and officially states opposite - I'd have to agree with this. Otherwise, why not just make weapon level certs 'unlock'able, where you can load them in/out at your leisure once you get that level once. - regardless of what you've dropped in the way of skills / pilot trees.

I would consider it an exploit but considering the ratty state of the game where nothing gets fixed only broken, I say exploit wherever possable. Bad attitude I know but who cares if the devs don't.
If it really was considered a problem or an exploit by SOE, I am quite certain that they would have done something about it by now. It's to bad that the original poster decided to empty out his ship, since now he is going to have to grind up the more difficult way.
Pilots have been talking about this for the past, well since JTL went live and a few pilots mastered and then dumped to master the next pilot squad.
Treat it like a special gift and things will be fine.
*Edit: In fact, I believe more then one dev had commented that it was working as intended for those that had already mastered a profession. However, if one wants to 'work it' as they 'believe' it to be intended, that's completely fine too.

Sure, it may not be working 'as intended', but when you compare using legitimate parts in a low-cert ship, to exploiting shields, it's really not a huge issue.
In other news, has anyone seen a pole lately? I think it might have gotten lodged somewhere...

It seems to me that the three Heavy variant starter ships pretty much prove that this isn't an exploit. No newbie pilot needs 95k mass. And while the option to toss anything and everything into a ship willy nilly is kind of nice, those ships really shine when used to go through your second and third factional squadron. In my mind, there really isn't any doubt as to what they were added for. The devs see that a lot of us are going back and making Ace multiple times, and decided to toss us a bone.
Though with freelance, the Dunelizard is really the way to go, 2 guns is the main reason.

Oh, I agree. I am wrapping up CorSec today (just the 'vette left), and when I get done I am going to pack everything I can into my dunie and head back to the Empire. I'm probably going to give Storm Squadron another try.
Ok I'm confused, you going to pack a Dunie and go Imp?

No its not..I consider it more along the lines of 2yeh you mastered pilot once already...you know the score especially if you're willing to do it again' etc..so I consider it a master pilot bonus
.
I didn't know it was considered an exploit, however...I'm not going to redo a pilot prof again so meh.
