I think that simply increasing payouts on entertainer missions would significantly improve the game. If entertainer missions gave comperable compensation to regular missions it would accomplish several things at once, one being that entertainers would have a means of making income. As it is now only master musicians/dancers make income by giving buffs. Secondly, it would give incentive for entertainers to play in cantinas that normally go unused. Therefore, other players would have an opportunity of finding an entertainer in cantinas that currently are always empty. Implementing higher paying missions for entertainers in groups could also be good in that it would encourage players to interact, similar to the way destroy missions on regular mission terminals work. Especially lucrative missions could require that the entertainer entertain a PC and not just play for a given amount of time, however, i think higher paying missions should require more time spent playing.

Valcyn, I agree that the payouts on ent missions are ridiculous. I'm also in favor of increasing them. But I'd also favor making the missions more complex and interesting -- at a minimum, like the interactive "theater quests" thathave been in testing for some time.

the quest for one-eyed-willy, perhaps?

I don't know if it's ever been mentioned before (although I tried to use the forum search "feature" to find out
), but how about something like those big Japanese drums that get played in unison. Taiko drums, I think they're called.
I hesitate to mention it given the feelings it evokes, but the SE of Return Of The Jedi had somthing like them in the new musical scene.
Actually, drums of any kind would be nice.

I admit I'm far to lazy to read all the ideas.
People have suggested being able to write our own music, but what about "compositional certifications"? (possibly suggested before)
For example, a master musician would be able to use a wide range of notes (from very low to very high) and complex rythms (double dotted notes, sixteenth notes, the like). A novice entertainer might only have a small range of quater notes and eigth notes to use, but just as we get certifications for songs we would get note certifications. (IE Novice musician box, certification: sixteenth rest, Musicianship 4, certification: tie, music knowledge 2, certification: 6/8 time)
Once you've written your piece of music you would pick an instrument to play it on, record it with the help ofa droid, and you now have that song available. I think for simplicity all instruments would be in the same key signature.
Possible list of certifications:
-Quater note
-Eigth note
-Sixteenth note
-Quater rest
-Eigth rest
-Sixteenth rest
-Slur/tie
-Staccato
-Legato
-Accent
-Additional notes of high pitch
-Additional notes of low pitch
-Accidentals
-Complex time signatures
-Trills
Mind you this would be in addition to our existing songs, and one thing is that nobody can cry injustice, since it doesn't degrade any other professions.

Writing our own music has come up a lot. I think it would be awesome, but there have been many issues raised as to what legal trouble Sony could get in when people started copying music from sheet music since very few people have actually taken music theory courses, or can even write down melodies they have in their head for that matter. It would be 99% copywrited works being played.

Here's my cool gameplay idea for the dev's responsible for the entertainer professions to consider...
Russian Roulette.

I've mentioned this in a couple of threads. Now that the quest is live the mechanics for distributing new songs is in place. Simply make the quest repeatable and the scrolls availabe a list we choose from when we complete the quest.
To mix it up have some concerts occur in hotels instead of the theater or have the promotions be at specific highly populated locations but if that is too much just keep the current quest but provide more songs to chose from as our reward. Adding a list to the theater manager at the end of the quest shouldn't be that big a deal.
Finally with the promotional portion set a minimum time, i.e. go promote yourself, get 30 people to listen to you,and return here after 4 hours to let us know how you did. This way the personal pressure to complete this ASAP and return for the next test is lessened and our spamming for listeners should go down as well. I think its great that we are getting out and being seen in unusual places as well as being seen as individuals or coordinated groups instead of just a bunch of grinders in a cantina. The public is actually gettinga chance to see what we can really do. Now defuse the pressure to get it done ASAP and we won't become the new wave of spam to ignore.

I like the idea of each planet having a certain theme for the scroll rewards. For example, you would have to go to Tatooine to get Western. Naboo would get you the scroll for Sonata (just making these up as I go). Corellia would be... hmm... what would Corellia be?
Now that we have one new song after a year and a half, I'm definitely feeling the need for more songs. I hunger for them more than I do for badges (yes, I was a badge hunter long before it became 'popular'). Must have more songs. Need another fix. *twitches uncontrollably*

Ok, here's my latest idea. We all want more songs. The Devs have more songs 'in various stages of completion'. Once they are completed, I know they'll want a way to dribble them out slowly. This will take care of that, with minor changes to existing code, while giving us more content.
Convert the current Artisan Museum Painting quest to reflect music scores, rather than painting schematics. Once the 'Masterpiece of the Month' has been selected, it'll be sent to the Theater Managers for distribution.
I know it's easier to slap some piece of concept art into a frame and code it into the game, than it is to make a new song/dance, make the flourishes, and get it all to sync when playing with others. So, the timeframe will most likely be longer. Probably, quarterly.
Adding the quest for the popularity of the piece of music would add to the game, rather than just saying, "We've put a new song/dance in the Theater Manager Quest. Enjoy".

Easy fix - make it a bannable offence and then no one will do it

How about announcing new content in cantinas? I realize that it will be up on the internets shortly afterwards, but it would ensure some ATK presence in the cantinas. Maybe a new kind of mission that an entertainer can get while entertaining (or gets given by the live team) and then can pass on to someone whose mind wounds or BF they've healed.

Hey Warrenblast, does the horn lick on Western qualify as techno-ish? I'm not sure myself, hehe.
