Thread: From your correspondent: Top issues for Musicians
But the skill set is complete! There's something in all those little boxes for Musicians. I have a feeling that if Musicians got Mando then ME would just have another instrument to replace it. Entertainers play instruments too, just like Musicians....only a smaller number of them. A musician can play percussion (!) and the nala, and of course the two horns. An entertainer just gets the two horns (but lower ones that give less XP) and if they master it they get Mando, which is a low level instrument according to the gameplay mechanics. The only way the game recognizes how "advanced" an instrument is is by the XP it gives, and mando is low XP compared to any Musician instruments. Moot I suppose, because if it were moved to MM it could just be changed to give more... But what, trade Mando for Nala? I dunno...it just seems like too many people will argue about this to bring about a change.
I can understand both sides of the argument because I was once an envious musician who wanted the mando...but I wanted it bad enough that I unlearned smuggler and got ME. That was what convinced me that the Mando is exactly where it belongs. The fact that I'm willing to sacrifice all that time (Unarmed IV is not easy to get
) just for one instrument and song. It's excellent motivation to get ME. But if you could think of something to replace mando which is also excellent motivation, while I may actually agree with the proposal, it's improbable that a vast majority will and in that case there would be no reason to change what is already implemented. The problem is, if there was something proposed to replace the Mando which was equally desireable, then some Musicians would disagree because of the same reasons they want the Mando...and some ME's will always disagree about taking away their mando, regardless of what replaces it.
Sorry about the slight attitude last night, I was just waking up (graveyard shift).
2. KEEPING MUSIC ENJOYABLE By the time I make it to a new song, I am so tired of the last song, I really don't want to hear it again, even if I liked it to begin with. What if your xp was based more on the instrument you can play rather than the song? This way we can switch songs around and still earn the xp while keeping ourselves and our customers sane. This might allay some of the demand for new songs. I mean, I liked SW1 to begin with, and I don't know anyone who can play sw3 long, even if you do get more xp for it than folk.
3. EARNING INCOME What if the fictional cantina owners paid us a commision to draw customers? The longer the gig, the higher the pay? If it were a one time fee, I can see people running in and out over and over...
4. EMPTY THEATERS What if there were flourishes and effects only available at a theater, and customers had to buy a ticket to enter? The proceeds could be split betweeen performers. To give an incentive for people to listen, what if there were healing perks associated with a theater?
Hi Reeolowa: Thanks for your list. Your first three suggestions (and variations on them) are popular among Musicians, but the fourth one is a new one, and I rather like it. My one hesitation is that we desperately need more flourishes at all our performance venues, so I'd rather opt for more "effects" in the theater -- stagelights, spotlights, sound effects.
More generally, it sure would be nice if the devs gave us more reason to go into theaters and hotels. Gambling in hotels was a start; maybe a few new types of gambling games would help. As for theaters, I have noticed that established bands like to rehearse in theaters, so that's something. Actually, I have dreams of putting on a ballet or opera in a theater: Musicians in the pit, Dancers on the stage. But I'd need to advertise like crazy to make sure that people can even find the thing, and I'm a busy Musician already.
Waho and others in the mandoviol debate: I don't know if it's helpful to reason by analogy, but your debate started me thinking about my Carbineer's skill tree.A Master Carbineer doesn't get every carbineer move. Bounty Hunters get one or two good moves that Carbineers don't get.On the other hand, the Master Carbineer does get every carbine in the game. On the other other hand, the highest carbine (the Elite Carbine) is available at Novice Carbineer, which costs fewer skill points than Master Entetainer. So if "precedent" from other professions matters, I suppose there's precedential support for both sides of the argument: the Master Carbineer gets every "instrument" but notevery "song."Heh.
Personally, I had no doubts: I simply had to have both the mando and Ceremonial, so I'm a Master Entertainer as well as a Master Musician.

1. HELPING NEWBIES If you are trying to earn xp, but want to help out newer musicians, you have to give up the xp you could have earned playing a harder song. How about letting you earn the higher xp points you would have earned playing your highest song if you are grouped? You don't need to earn the xp if you are soloing a lower song.
A couple false assumptions here. You do not give up any XP if you play a lower song as long as you are playing your "highest" instrument. For example, Starwars1 onommni gives me as much XP as Jazz on Ommni. If I add a newbie then my XP goes UP. There is NO sacrifice of XP for joining with a newbie.

Clearly everyone that truly wants to play the mando is. Or they are headed that way. Those who sort of want it or wouldn't mind having it want to move it to their profession. If they truly wanted it they'd already be playing it.
Analogies are a great way of explaining something that isn't clear, but it is very clear WHY musicians want to move the mando. What isn't clear is HOW and wether or not it is necessary.
We really should stop complaining about ME, cause whatever they change, people will start complaining about NOW WHY DO WE HAVE TO GET ME FOR THAT?????
Anyway, this is a class of it's own! No mixed perfessions, and this is the only one with 4 types of xp. BEING AN ENT IS TOUGH, but being one in real life is tough too.

Hehe np buddy. We all have our off days ![]()
It did sound a bit funny but I can live with that.
And I agree no matter what you replace it with, there will be moans. Although if I think of something I'll let you know ![]()
I've been wracking my brain over this for the last few days. Got some ideas, but not enough for a big post yet.

Just a thought. Why not create a way for high level musicians and dancers be able to create "craft" Holocrons of performances as "buffs". This would cause a bigger demand for Masters to accompany party’s in the field, and a little extra "shoe monies".
