Hello? Musician forum?
Can we get a mod in here to clean out the OT?
Yes, please...I'm here "representing" my Master Musician (semi-retired due to problems I stated in a few posts here on the music forums.) When I have a problem for my Master Artisan character I head to the Artisan forums, when I have a problem for my Doctor character, I post on the Doctor forums...if your problems are not related in some way to the music profession, please find a more appropriate place to post.
I think most of the ideas I had for musician have been posted here, but I'll expand a bit on the music mission ideas. The major problem I had before retiring from musician was the lack of respect I received from many members of fighting professions, they see entertainers as little more than an irritation because they have to visit them to get rid of BF (yes, mind wounds heal naturally in a med center just like other wounds). These types of people use their entertainment healing time to take food/drink/bathroom breaks. Although I realize that some of these people will never come to respect the entertainment professions, I feel there are some great ways to encourage respect.
Many entertainment mission terminals list stories about poor, haggard, beaten-up people who need to relax. What if this idea was expanded upon by providing "rescue" missions to the fighting characters where they must rescue an NPC from a situation (a geneticist who tried to extract DNA from a rancor for example) and must then locate an entertainer (maybe even designate what level that entertainer should be depending onjust howtraumatized the NPC is)who can calm the NPC down enough to pull out his/her checkbook and give the reward. I think missions such as these where fighters and entertainers have the opportunity to work closely with one another would greatly increase the respect given to entertainment professionals as well as encouraging ATK playing. (Now I'm not a programming expert by any stretch of the imagination, so I have no idea how hard this would be to implement, but I think it would be worth the time spent because it would help out in two major ways--increasing content and encouraging people to be at their keyboards.)
Oh, and on a non-related topic (but still within the realm of entertainment which is better than a lot of the posts showing up here) is that it would be great if theaters got fixed...

1: AFKers - make anyone who goes AFK mute.. no more macroed comments or yells until the person touches their keyboard or moves their mouse. This should be implemented over ALL character professions.
2: Instruments and songs need revamp - there is NO reason that a master entertainer should have a song or instrument that a Musician (or for that matter a dance that a dancer) doesn't have by taking the specialized profession. Honestly the entertainment profession needs revamping almost more than any other profession. Its a joke that instruments sound the same, for that matter they should make some songs only playable with certain instruments. This could be implementd with the addition of new songs AND new instruments.
3: The musician and dancer should be able to move around while playing.. s l o w walk unless they are using a stationary instrument or stop playing, this could be expanded by allowing gestures while "animated" like waves, points, kicks, jumps etc. This will allow for more creativeness in performing otherwise we are at the mercy of the flourishes. Note: the extra animations do nothing but add to the performance.
4: Allow healing of BF in camps.. it can be slower in small camps and greater in larger ranger camps. There is NO reason this shouldn't have been implemented a long time ago (like at inception of entertainers). And pets should also be affected by musician playing for mind healing.. .to quote an old cliche: music soothed the savage beast.
5: Musicians should have more impact on the environment especially in a combat environment. The music could reduce or hinder the effects or success of war cry and similar abilities. Possibly make animals/creatures more sluggish or slower to respond to offensive actions. For that matter a musician should be able to play near hostile encounters and slowly walk into their midst with a chance to make them docile (neutral yellow) and then pass by with group with no encounter unless the party takes an offensive action. I don't have suggestions for dancers in this respect but I'm sure with some thought environment impact could be addressed for them as well.
6: allow for creation of new instrruments by intermixing different pieces for different sounds and looks. The sound would be based on the core piece used but the look could really get wild.. kind of like a leggo kit. When the item gets too large or heavy it becomes a stationary instrument. Other people can figure out how other professions could get involved with this. This kind of thing could also be done with a droid as the "core" piece of the instrument. The droid would give the "instrument" a different sound over all other instruments.
Struggling Musician
Suntydt
1. Ability to write our own melodies: now I know this might sound a bit ridiculous and yes i would prolly agree... but with the ability to write our own melodies, individuals or bands could actually seek recognition for their own hard work, by putting together tunes as a band for instance those bands could become recognised in game for having the better made up tunes... afterall if there is no individualism between one master musician or the next then where's the fun in being one when we are playing a community game in which other people from around the world are listening to your music.
2. Craft tunes: ok, now i know this is getting more complicated lol... but an idea could be that those bands or individuals could sell their music they have writtento individuals... like a CD but more starwarsy! and along with this they can make a CD player which people have to use the cd's on... the benefit of this is that people could then get a mind buff from listening to the music (not as good a buff as listening to actual musicians live though). This would give musicians a great source of income other than AFK mindbots. (The CD's could have a limited number of uses - say 10 like an album) An important addition to writing music is having dancers dancing whilst the music is recorded to highten the quality of the music! This would mean that both Dancers and Musicians can benefit from the sale of an album and that the dancer proffession wouldnt become obsolete, also it'd mean that the CD's could buff all 3 mind pools too!
3. /Applause: Make it so that the individual or band can be applauded (/applaud command from the audience) as a master musician and with each applause their CD recording quality becomes better... I.E. they have a seperate level which they can increase from doing performances... that way the better individual or band that tours more places and gets more applause from people, is then sought after for their CD's as in real life... So it be more like becoming famous inreal life!!!!!! a way of making sure people dont get afk applause could be that they can only play a gig at one venue every 2 hours or so and claim one lot of applause from each person.
4. Charts: Each CD that is used by a player is recorded on the server's so that it recognises when a band or individual's music has been listened too. Each week the chart could be released on each individual server to show the most popular band or individual, just as we do in real life again... and adding to the LimeLight of the whole piece. I mean if u want to be a msuician you want to become famous afterall!!!!
5. Theatre Request: The more successful a band or individual is in the chart (in other words getting the number 1 spot) the more likely they are to be called up to play in a big auditorium by the mayor of npc cities (e.g Coronet, Entha etc.) ... An email could be sent to the registered band leader or individual to tell them when they havebeen requested to play there, if they dont show then it doesnt happen... their loss (maybe be penalised for it by not being asked to play there again for a period). This could happen once or twice a week on each server. The BONUS to make people come and watch these limited and special performances is that they get given a mind buff which lasts for the whole week till the next performance... Obviously this mind buff wouldnt be too amazing but for say 200 - 300 extraon the mind pools (if the individual or band has there own registered dancer they get all mind pools otherwise they just the focus and willpower mindbuff). At the door when the audience enter they pay a fee of say 8000 credits and 6000 credits could be given to a band and 1500 to an individual, this is to make it so that people dont always go individual andband interaction isrewardedto makeit fairer as the money would be divided between the band(the rest is taken by the taxman!!!)
So I think the suggestion on "no xp for AFKers" dont really work...

Unfortunately you are correct about the third-party macroing, however in my experience there is no program that is ever "on top." Meaning, if SOE keeps one step ahead of the third-party macro programs, they can find ways to defeat them OR to make it too risky/expensive for people to use them. My monthy fee has to go toward something...why not this.
AFK macrotainers MUST GO!!!

I don't mind the OT stuff in this thread; if it means more people are reading about Musician-related ideas, that's ok with me. And I don't have the ability to clean out unrelated posts anyway. I'm just a lowly Correspondent.
My idea would require a rework on how the client side hears music files played by musicians. As it is now, music is on the client side and plays to the listener what the musician is playing. I would like to see a rework where the same music files could be played more then once but slightly out of phase with each other before being mixed. (As it is now, the only time they hear both musicians if if they are playing different flourishes). This would in effect give a different sound when two musicians were playing the same instrument on the same song, harmony. So each musician playing the same instrument would open its own sound file each being slightly out of phase with each other. While we are reworking this, perhaps the bandleader could have a small amount of control on the client side mixer too. Or perhaps a few triggered effects on the mixer.
