Thread: Why putting a 15-second delay in AND nerfing speed buffs is WRONG.
I completely agree! Why in the world would they want to slow our already slow buffs even more?

It wasn't just about the buffs. The /stop-/start exploit was granting people quadruple Musician XP. Yes, 4x as much XP as normal. Isn't than an exploit? Maybe it should've been cured more artfully, but something had to be done. It's already way too easy to level up to Master Musician as it is, compared with the devs' intention. It took me three or four weeks to make Master at launch, because I didn't use any macros at all (none of us had tried them much yet). It was a big accomplishment back then. Now it takes a couple days of AFK'ing. With the quad-XP exploit, a matter of hours, I suppose. What's the sense of accomplishment in that?
As for the buff timer, is it really a big deal to wait 2 minutes for a buff? Some buff recipients actually do chat for a couple of minutes while being buffed. For those who just want to get back to the fighting and refuse ever to socialize with anyone, they can use the 2 minutes for a bathroom or snack break. It just doesn't strike me as a big deal. And I can assure you, there's no way the devs will return to a 30-second speed buff. It's a non-starter.
We have other, much more important buff-related issues. These include: (1) self-buff, (2) buff duration (3 hours, please), and (3) a better buff interface. We should be focusing our energies on those. That's what a majority of players asked for in the most recent top-five poll, and that's what I'm pursuing. Those issues are #2 on our top-five list (after new songs).
I have to say that I am 100% in favour of the removal of the exploits. Though I knew about the so-called "speed buff" I never made use of it on my Master Musician or Master Dancercharacters as I understood what damage they was doing to the profession - reducing us to a profession which has no purpose other than a "buff-bot". The delay to between stopping and starting music or dances may well be annoying but the elimination of the extra experience exploit more than justifies it and I will adapt to the change.
These two changes are probably the best thing that could have been done to the entertainment professions (apart from the fancy droids and forthcoming ID mini-publish) as we have taken the first few steps on the path of recovering our professions from the grinders.
I agree, NJ. 4x the usual xp is just plain wrong - didn't do that to get Master Musician, but I did use some macros
Hey my fingers get tired, i type all day at work, too ![]()
In that respect, so long start/stop spam. that's a good thing. exploit fixed.
so i guess, yeah - buff related issues. After new songs, that's definitely #2.
And a small note - sure we can buff in 2 minutes, but not full buff. A 2 minute buff isn't very good at all. A full takes 3 minutes and 10 seconds at the very least. without all that start/stopcombat window spam ![]()
- You don't earn xp for 15 seconds after you begin performing. Stopping your performance cancels any xp reward you would have received on the next 'pulse'.
Bwjan I agree with you totally. It is about time the devs and some of our *cough*representatives*cough* realised that not everyone wants to socialise, if they do, great, if not let them do their thing. This is a multifaceted game and we should have many tools at our disposal, including a legit speed buff! So we can buff in 10mins (now 12mins thanks to the 'fix') for the social ones, or if we're out in the field and our combat medic desperately needs a buff to get back out there and keep the team alive, we can do that too before the whole team is dead!!!!
The exploit is only there due to a demand - people don't create elaborate exploits like the 30sec buff if there isn't a need for it. Yes it spammed and looked crappy and I hated it too, but I am at least realistic enough to see why some people did it and why many found it not just a cool gimmic but a necessity.
I think some of us need an reality check of the demands and needs of other players, and not just that, but an empathy check. Put yourself in other peoples shoes before you shoot down anyone who doesn't want to be in a chat room or who wants to entertain without being forced into a 'social' class. All of the combat orientated entertainers understand the views of the social entertainers... why can't they see our views?
oh what i'd give for an edit command, sorry Bwgan*
(PS before all the social class entertainers shoot my post down, realise that the reason why only social entertainers are the only posters in these forumsis because any non-social entertainer that posts is either ignored or shot down - so go figure)
