Hello,

I wanted to give everyone an update on what Publish 9 holds for the Image Designers. Kwee has worked hard for all of you and while not every detailsmighthave goneexactly as the way you or Kweewould have wished, she has been instrumental in shaping the Image Designer enhancements at every step of the way and well beyond the initial release. You have a very good Correspondent and regardless of all the details of the game mechanics, Kwee has been a great person to interact with as she is always there representing all of you giving me feedback, collecting information and offering suggestions all along the way.

Here is what you all can expect to come with Publish 9:

  • Master Image Designers will have their timers reduced by 50% for cosmetic and physical changes outside the tent.
  • Master Image Designers will have their timers removed entirely for cosmetic and physical changes insde the tent.
  • Stat migration xp will be raised from 600xp to 2000xp.
  • Image Designer tentshave had new special music composed for them. Thiswas delivered to me last Friday and should be in place sometime this week. There are three separate tracks, each specialized to fit the mood of the decor of each of the three tent themes.

How do you like that?!? NewJedi, do something about this! This is totally unfair. The freakin' Image Designers get new music? What kind of sick joke is this?!? And it's for their tents? Here's an idea - why doesn't their "social" profession invite us into tents to play some of our new songs for them? Maybe Musicians would "broadcast" in the tent and all patrons inside could hear us. But nooooo.......why pay us any attention.

I find this an outrage.

What a slap in the face.

I'm out.

Thought I would clarify that we didn't get new music. Some stupid tents did. A tent is more important than our profession, apparently.

I just wanted to make perfectly clear that this is yet another thing the IDs were not even informed about untill after it was done. Please do not get angry at the IDs for this, it is not our doing!

You do realize there's a great difference between the music players play and background music right? To get background music the developers contact a composer who writes the piece, then contract out a band to play the piece and record it. The developers then take that piece and make it play whenever you enter an ID tent. Minimal time on the devs part. To make player music you have to get the piece composed for however many different instruments. The song has to then be sampled for each individual piece, then each piece has to have an associated flourish animation added, timings possibly require tweaking, then all this new code has to be added to the existing code and made sure it works right. This requires a LOT more developer work, and I do believe right now all available code monkies are working on the jedi revamp.

Do I wish we got a new song or dance or something? Sure

Am I gonna get mad because they added some new background music? Hell no, its apples and oranges here.

This is NOT the ID's fault. They didn't ask for this, don't get mad at ID's.

This is the Devs' problem, and it's high time we stick it to 'em for decisions like this.

I was just impressed a Dev even posted in the ID forum - do we (musicians) even have a Dev? I don't think i've EVER seen a post by one in here. That makes a huge statement against the Devs right there.

Repeating, the ID's did NOT ask for the Tents to get music - that was the Devs' hairbrained scheme. Focus any frustration at the Devs, not Image Designers.

you guys make it sound liek composing is soo dificult it's not. We have a total of 5 unique instruments sounds with 4 seconds(?) intervals a total of 10 flourishes per instrument. I could defiently crank that out in an afternoon with a music compostion program. I also don't write music for a living - but I have studied music theory. from a recording perspective - and I am familar with music being able to play many instruments IRL - it would take real musicians less then hour pre editing and synthesizing in the game to record the music.

Yes there will be studio and set up time to consider - but all in all there is not a single reason this could not be done in a single day once the music is written and the musicians lined up.

Heck if they gave us a conversion tool for wav or mp3 files and had a contest for entertainres/musicians to make a new song with the 11 different sound types per instruemnts (10 flourish and rhythm line) with 5 intruments that would definetly help this along - but no they can't do that since they are afraid of corpyrighted music entertiner the game - though rightfully so.

You guys over complicate this process.

Yeah, whoops - big mt there - i meant to say the freakin' Image Designers' tents get new music. So sorry for the confusion.

I must admit, I was very frustrated when I started this post. I don't mean to be negative, just frustrated with Musician at this point.

Thanks for bringing the mt to my attention, Bri

From the game's flourish/looping and individual instrument functions, most of this work would lie on the sound engineer(s) doing the work to make it happen. As you said, the musicians' work would be minimal, and composing something for only 10 or so instruments wouldn't be outrageously difficult. The basic code skeleton is already in there for the other songs, it's just fitting a name and the sounds into the framework.

Andyeah, the custom tool would invite copyright infringement, and Sony can't let that happen, of course.

I can only pray that the sessions they did to record ID tent background music yielded something for sound engineers to play with for Musicians.

As Kwee said, we've got the Hutt casino coming along - but waiting until 2005 for any new songs or content would be pretty rough. I think we could use at least a little new stuff to tide us over. They've gotta have something to throw at us.

I don't mind that ID's get some background music. I think the background music in this game is terrific, one of the best things about it, and I'm happy to see it get better. JTL will undoubtedly have some new background music: again, I think that's a good thing.

That said, it does anger me that it's been a year and we still don't have any new songs.New songs has always been my number 1 priority, and it's been our #1 issue in each and every poll I've ever done. The devs have heard me ask for them dozens and dozens of times. It was our weekly question two questions ago. They know we want new songs. I don't know how much more clearly I can tell them. They seem to understand perfectly clearly that it is painful to listen to the same 10 songs -- more painful, I think, than watching the same 10 dances.

Now, I happen to think it takes far more than an afternoon to throw together a song. I do digital-audio recording in my home studio, and I have some songs I've been working on for two years. And it's true that synchronizing flourishes and whatnot takes work. Plus we may get new instruments; don't know for sure. But I'm just me, I'm not SOE, with its resources and budget. And even I can put something half-decent together in a couple of months.

As I said yesterday, I just posted a rant in the Correspondent Forum about the delay in our new songs. I can rant again if you like. It makes me feel a little better. But it doesn't seem to make an iota of difference.

I agree, it would have been more complicated to put in more player music. However, I hardly think it's as complicated as you make out. Splitting a musician group into recording booths is hardly difficult, to get each instrument's sound.

"To make player music you have to get the piece composed for however many different instruments." - A musical composition is composed for multiple instruments playing at one time, obviously. It's not like they'd need to compose it in any different way than an all out orchestral piece. Tell a composer he has 8 or 10 instruments to work with, and they'll happily work out some fine tunes. Stick the musicians in seperate booths and let them jam.

The flourishes are hardly anything new to add, they're all the same animations anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong, but each song does not have different flourish animations. Timing tweaks, eh, might take a little while to work out. Doubtful it'd be that hard. The sound editor makes the sounds loop and fit the animations.

If they have time to compose 3 new musical pieces, they could have just as easily composed the pieces to be played by Musicians. It lies mostly in the recording process.

You might be right, it might have been more of a challenge to give Musicians the new songs, rather than just stick em in a tent. But yeesh, if we continue this attitude, every profession will get attention until we're completely passed by.

Are we seriously content to wait 6+ months for 1 new song from the Hutt casino? It's not THAT complicated to add new Musician songs. If we're happy to let the Devs get away with just doing what's easiest, then let's just have the game filled with stick figures running around throwing large square blocks at each other.
