Thread: Sorry, friends...I'm out =(

I had the day off, and I've spent much of it doing searches for "entertainer" and "musician" on the forums, also searching for "afk+entertainer" and "afk+musician." The majority of posts I've read out there from every forum (galaxies, professions, development, GAT, even RP)that mentions these words encourage the afk'ing. These people continually advocate the raping of our profession, and frankly, I don't see any end in sight.

Combat professions receive fixes in every patch, Crafting professions get some attention (eg tailors get to craft chef hats and aprons), even other service-related professions get something after all, doctors are getting fire blankets. The entertainment professions on the other hand haven't gotten a definite bonus for months.

These two things are bad enough, but the final straw when I had an in-game experience paralleling what happened to someone else (from the dancing forums if I remember correctly).Someone sent me a /tell asking me to perform for him. I traveled to the player cantina this person was at and I pulled out my nalargon and played away for the guy (who went afk during the performance). When his mind had completely healed, I packed up the nalargon and prepared to head out, but as I was leaving he shouted after me. (admittedly this conversation is somewhat paraphrased, but this is the gist of it.)

HIM: "Hey, aren't you forgetting something?"

ME: "No, I think you're all healed. Good luck out there."

I targeted him and used /diagnose to make sure he had completely healed and he had.

HIM: "I need money, and you just got major healing xp off me"

ME (not thinking he was serious): "haha. Normally its the performer who asks for a tip."

I /grin at him and keep walking

HIM: "**** you! I had a full bar worth of wounds you ***. You got a bunch of xp out of it."

ME: "You're serious? Besides, I'm a Master. I don't need the xp anymore."

Anyway, the conversation continued with him railing against me until I just added him to my ignore list as its first permanent resident.

All of these things have caused me to slowly start judging my customers even before I speak to them, and this isn't a good attitude for an entertainer to have. I shouldn't fear my customers, I shouldn't dread what they may say. Because of this, I am entering into a semi-retired state as a musician. Instead of wandering the galaxy looking for an appreciative audience, instead of playing for all the people who send me tells asking for buffs, and instead of just quitting the game (which was my first inclination), I am going to work on my pistoleer skills. I'll still be around and keep all my entertainingskills, but I'm not going to wear my Master tags anymore--they have been cheapened by the macrotainers to the point of being worthless. I'll still perform at the cantina in my town, and I'll still heal and buff my friends, but so far as being a professional entertainer, I can't do it anymore. The profession has been utterly destroyed.

Again, I'm sorry I couldn't keep up the crusade for entertainers, but I hope that what I've said here explains sufficiently why I feel I have to do this. I'll still drop in on the music forums from time to time--how could I not, I still care deeply for the profession, and of courseI love all of you. 8-b

I look forward to the day when I can proudly play my instruments again without someone thinking I'm just hologrinding.

What you have to understand Lioman is that the players who disrespect you are the same players that eventually get kicked out of PAs, permabanned for duping credits, exploit fanshot in the geonosis bunker, AFK loot in the Borgle cave, would rather heal tumblers than the injured, and do every single thing they can do to gain an advantage by means other than the developers original intent. They'll get theirs soon enough. The old hands and the ones that actually care about having fun in the manner by which the developers intended adore you, for you are one of the few that actually reaffirms to them that this game makes sense. Unfortunately, those are the ones that will suffer the most by not performing. Because I see them all in Coronet where I perform. I actually had a fellow do a /cry to me because I was the first entertainer in months that actually made his stay vaugely more interesting than what was being given.

However, I understand...BELIEVE me I do. I'm still fighting the fight...but its getting harder every day to log in.....

To the original poster,

i feel for you. I mean it seems that it would take a lawsuit to even get the devs to notice us. We all know if TH visited this thread he'd say... "everything is working as intened" I used to respect the guy but now only pex and runsabre have that respect as it would seem TH is not a man of his word. I really wish they would fix this proffession but in the end, nomatter what proffession in anygame, it comes down to what you make of it. IF hearing/ seeing these things isn't fun for you, then you have to make it fun for yourself or let it go. GL with where you head next

yeah unfortunately we are deemed as 'the wives profession' so we dont need any real fixes or additions. after all we cant want anything, this is just a profession to keep the other half busy while the real players do combat and crafting.

its ridiculous. we get a stupid droid special effect in publish 7.

since launch we have recieved the almighty buff for focus and willpower. and they had to redo it. that is the ONLY thing since launch us entertainers have gotten.

Igave up on the professional entertainer job shortly after the holocron craze came full force. you simply cannot compete with other entertainers that dont care if they get tips cause they arent doing it to be an entertainer. i keep master musician solely for the reason to buff my friends and heal them if they need it. I no longer use it to socialize with others, or meet new people eventhough that was the oly reason i took it up in the beginning.

perhaps once the holo craze goes out of effect i will return to the cantinas of the world, but it all depends on whether the people of the swg world understand that there is no more disrespect for the entertainers.

Lilo post is a very good sum up of the plague that rampages through the entertainers professions.

Yes it's getting harder and harder to play an entertainer character. We always have to make efforts, accept insults, and watch without being able to do anything our profession collapse thanks to holo-grinder and Afker who have totally ruined the profession.

Todayi play only RP.

I rarely buff, because i'm tired to use something that i don't control. Always have to ask the buffed guys to check wetherthe buff is well set or not set? Thanks to the chief we have a timer now (t'ssolok beverage). I don't go anymore in cantina. What for? I can't expect anything there.I feel sad to see other players to retire, but i understand their choice. I 'm still hoping something from Soe concerning our professions but i get tired to wait.

In fact StarWars Galaxy is from the entertainer point of view no more tha a Sim expansion with Star Wars flavor.

As a last try i have surrendered my artisan skill (survey 4) that provide me money and i'm working on dancer. My template will be ME/MM/MID and dancer 0040 with medic 1000. That's the only way i have found to have something new in the entertainer profession: discovering the old dances

With my last move in this game, i have lost my ability to earnenough money. Hopefully, with RP i manage to have free stuff. But i just want to feel how ruined entertainers economy is.

Once again i feel sad to have read another retirement post. But retirementor cancelling seems to be the only fateof entertainers players

I just want to say, thank The Force people afk dance and entertain. Do you honestly think that if they couldn't do that they would bother. A lot of them wouldn't. Then I'd be out of luck for getting healed. Yes, it is fun to have a REAL entertainer, but...............

You give an inch they take a mile. Didn't entertainers just recently get the ability to heal Action Wounds and what not? Oh how quickly we forget.

Okay, that guy was just stupid. However, I have seen it go both ways. People tipping entertainers for the healing and entertainers tipping for the xp. You just have to know what's up. There seemed to be a lack of communication in that situation from the get go.

I must admit, I really hate the ignore feature. It's unrealistic and silly unless the other person is harassing you. Then there should only be a temp ignore. You never know, that person may realize how silly they were being and try to make it up to you. They may be the very reason you choose to continue to play the game.

I have only (To my knowledge)been put on one ignore list. It totally ticks me off. Why? Because there was no reason for it. When I first started I was excited. I wanted to unite all Twi'lek Kind. I wanted it so I began to email other Twi'leks that a day was coming that we would be united or something like that. Well, I had a lot of positive feedback. This one Cal'andra I think, wanted to know more. I told her that I couldn't go into it right then. So she freaks and says FINE don't email me again. So I was like, okay, okay, let me explain what my idea is. Then shes like, I told you to forget it. So I tried talking sense into her and that I only wanted good for my fellow Twi'leks and to have a fun time. She said, What part of no don't you understand. /ignore. I tried several other times to re-establish good mutual feelings when I saw her in a cantina. I tipped her some high amount. She tipped it back. I used somebody to speak through. Then she starts telling people that I was put on ignore for a just reason. Man that ticked me off. Not only was she being silly, now she was smearing my name. Well, forget that. After that I just didn't even care to try anymore. Heck, she probably isn't playing anymore because she was so uptight. Ok, that was a little rant down the bunny trail. Oh well.

All of these things have caused me to slowly start judging my customers even before I speak to them, and this isn't a good attitude for an entertainer to have. Some people are jerks. There's nothing short of reporting or ignoring them you can do. Just enjoy those that you can. Remember this is Star Wars. You will run into people you don't like just like in real life. I would choose to RP it. LOL.

Sorry to see you go. I hope you'll reconsider. I get the occasional rude customer too, but by and large people are pretty nice to me, especially when I'm buffing them.

I've been pushing the devs for new entertainer content, and at last they seem to be listening, at least alittle. More details to follow -- but, as always, don't hold your breath.
