Thread: Master Musician, Mandoviol and Ceremonial, working of Master Musician
If you read the Image Design forum theres a bit of a debate there.. Currently ID is not represented at all under ME. Most the ID community however thinks it's fine this way and thinks ID should remain under ID, and suggest the same for dancer and musician. It will be interesting how this plays out.
Of course, then theres the question of what to do with ME to make people want it. So far the only suggestion I've seen worth while is some other type of entertaining, IE juggling/acrobatics type things.
Nope, you can't get the Mandoviol or Ceremonial unless you learn enough Image Design and Dance to become a Master Entertainer. You will find several contentious threads on this requirement in this forum. Those who defend the system argue, among other things, that it's necessary to give people some incentive to become Master Entertainer, that even the greatest musician doesn't know how to play every instrument, that the skill description of Master Musician is supposed to be rewritten, etc. Those who critique it say that ID and Dance are unrelated to Ceremonial and the Mando, that the amount of skill points required is too onerous, etc.
Interestingly, though, when I polled for the "top five" issues among Musicians, this one didn't really make the cut, partly because there are people on both sides of the issue, and partly because most Musicians are more concerned with other issues -- new songs and flourishes, distinct sounds for all instruments, better gigs and content, etc. I did nonetheless make mention of the controversy over the mando and Ceremonial in my first Correspondent's Report.
Once we get a new Community Rep, I'll be doing a new poll of Musicians, and I'll be interested to hear what people have to say on this issue.

So the answer is no, and it's because we wrote it that way. Which is rather like saying, "You cannot run the 100 yard dash because you didn't take horseback riding and archery." Musicians tend to select the instruments they learn. If I had that option, there would several instruments in the inventory that I would not touch. That is the one insturment that really interests me. I have noneed for dancing, or image design, it is not something that may character has any use for. I know several Master Dancers, and have no desire to compete with them. It also means that I am 20 points short of developing the character thay way I want to, because I will have that song and that instrument, and I am forced to spend 28 points on skills I have no interest in or use for. I find the answer less than satisfactory, which is certaintly not your fault.
But it is arbitrary, and lessens my enjoyment of the game. Iam sick to death of wind instruments, threre are too many of them. And it means I have to sacrifice either wilderness movement, or a level of gun skill, though this weakens the character's ability to survive. I am constantly challanged to duels by people who know that an artist's gun skill are weak.
So be it.
But a better solution would give some sort of control over what instrumentsare aquired in skills, rather than dictating it.
The alternative is that I give up the artistic interest altogether and become yet another gun for hire, something the game is currently overrun with. Or aCreature Handler, anothertypeof which there are far too many. I think there are exactly four "pets" in ALL of theStar Wars movies combined.
I see a lot of comments about how Musicians want the mandoviol, and that's really the only instrument they want, but they don't want to dance. Money for nothing and chicks for free, huh?
Consider that if every master musician had a mando, only one would be playing it in a band...maybe two. Just whip out your Nala instead...it gets more ooohs and aaahs and sounds better than mando on most of the songs.
I am developing a Master Musician in the game. I do not want or intend to take dance, image design, which are REQUIRED for Master Entertainer. Image Design as it now stands is a pointless, useless skill in game terms, and I don't want to spend the points on it, nor the time. Dancing . . . most of the dances do not look good on male characters.
But, according to the instruments and songs granted by skills, the Mandoviol and Ceremonial can only be aquired by taking Master Entertainer. But if you read the description for Master Musician it states: Knows all songs and can use all Instruments.
Which would imply that if Mandoviol and Ceremonial were not aquired earlier, they would become available at that point.
If this is true, then I'm a happy camper. If it is not, then I am really ticked off, because a Master Musician should have no nerfy limitations concerning songs and instruments.
So, I would like a direct answer, yes or no? If Master Entertainer is NOT taken, does Mandoviol and Ceremony become available to the character upon attainment of Master Musician?
And if not, please give me some justification besides "that's the way we wrote it."

No. It's the same way in all classes. You don't get to play all instruments as MM without ME as Master Pistoleers will not get the last quirk of pistol speed without mastering Marksman. It's even the same way in life. Mastering something else will getyou a deeper understanding of the first subject, being it english and french or sports and physics.
And if you don't want to lose combat boxes for entertaining, because you need a duelling artisan, then you have to live with not being the best entertainer, but "only" a master musician.
Just my opinion here
Those 2 do not belong where they are.
Keep the Mando but give us Ceremonial.
Why? because theres a need.
If we get more songs possible a new instrument or 2 all this might be moot.
Fact is its a good tune, and ME's do ok with it but truly they lack the skill of what a true master can do with it![]()
Muwahahahahaha
JK relax you freaks!!!!
Now give up the song dammit!!!
Why? because theres a need.
I have the need for better pistol skills. But I hope they don't move that to master musician. A need is not a good argument.
