Thread: Is Musician a mockery now???
Quoted from "Kelda_Edogmof" (His post has been deleted, unless I'm mistaken)
---------------------------------------------
The thing is fool that someone would have to be a complete idiot to pay a month for this game and be a musician god your stupid
---------------------------------
If you can't understand what he said, here it is again in correct grammar:
"The thing is, fool, that someone would have to be a complete idiot to pay a month for this game, and be a musician. God you're stupid!"
Now this guy up here started playing the game on Jan 2, he's a newbie (by definition). Newbies have no (or not much) knowledge of the game dynamics. That would mean that green players, by the 8th day of playing, already feel that musicians/dancers are suppose to just BE THERE for you in the cantina, that we're nothing more than furniture that plays music?
I'm totally insulted, and I blame this entirely on those holocrons (not holotainers, as they are forced to, and are really just doing it the fastest way).
I hope we all agree that entertainerment was better off w/ less entertainers and less afk-ers, than when holocronism invaded. Now we havea plethora of entertainers, and I don't need to talk about afk'ers. There is a glut of us now, there is no demand, there is no respect. I even say we can be compared to a Mexican illegal immigrant working in America. I mean, we both get little pay because if we quit, 15 more are waiting to take our spots. (too much of us, why bother tipping?), we work endless hours (for ATK entertainers, the leveling), whenwe haveserved our purpose, we are not thanked or even RESPECTED.
btw, why do we need /denyservice (or w.e the **selfedit** the devs gave us)?? Can someone explain? Because when I do that, there's 20+ entertainers still willing for that healer xp (although they won't know, they're watching tv)
Is it?
What do we have going for us as entertainers in general?
I actually thought about this a bit.
Well said Hiam!
I believe it is the Devs fault for leadingentertainers down this path to ruin.Im not so sure giving away free holos was such a good idea. Although with the income i get in-game,its the only way that I could get one. I read in a GameSpy interview where they said "Non-combat players are the weltiest in the game."For crafters maybe but not musicians.i could probebly rant about this till i'm blue in the face and passrd out on th floor, but i doubt it will change the devs minds to fix this. they have skill adjusted combat missions so whu can't they have em for entertainers?
I thought that by so many players gettingMusican and Dancer from there holos would make them respect the profession more. But all they do is creat a macro and play AFK, and some not even with a macro, they just dtand there in a group and play looking like a tottal noob. Is that realy how they want to see them selves(oh, ofcorse if it means they will eventualy get a FSCS open)?!?!Its not only embaresing them butits embarsing us, the true entertainers of the galaxy, who worked soooo hard to get where we are. I just recently decided to follow my holo which was MasterDoctor and i am half way to mastering Medic. The problem is when igo in to cantinas, like coronet,I can never get any good healing xp cause all the wannabee hologrinders don't useflourishes. there for theres not alot of damage for me to heal.
when you think about it Doctors and Entertainers were made for each other. We play for them and heal their mind, they watch us and heal our action so we may keep playing for everyone else. We both give others buffs but very rarely get paid for it. What realy burns me up inside is that Docs don't have any confusion with heals and buffing. We the Ents however, can't even tell who we are buffing and how much!!!!!!
Well thats my weekly musican rant. g*night all!!! I hope the devs or NJ are reading this. ![]()
Listen, there are some people out there who never have, don't, and never will respect musicians. To be honest I can't blame the guy, I used to feel that way. Why pay 15 bucks a month to have what is the equivelant of an aim chat room?
Also you have to realize that a lot people out there have no desire what-so-ever to be entertained. To them you arethere for the sole purpose of healing mind wounds and battle fatigue. Some people's idea of fun doesn't involve talking to entertainers. We as entertainers must realize this and do our best to let those people have their fun and we'll have ours.
Exactly, if you feel the same way why are you an Entertainer yourself????
All too true.I is realy pathetic how they simply ignore us like thatand focus on the combat sh*t. NewJedi has posted their response to his player suggestions and it seemed like they were working on it but i seriously doubt they are. ![]()
I am a musician who is not a musician by choice but by the will of the holocron. I have taken professions that were not my choice, some I liked and it enhanced my SWG experience, others... Musician is one of those others. If you're playing only with the mechanics of it, it's awful. There's nothing to do other than socialize but I can tell you, I dislike it so much that I usually am talking to my guild while the macro plays in the background. Does this hurt musician? Absolutely. Would I want to be here taking up space in the cantina to hurt musicians who actually enjoy what they do? Certainly not!
I really wish there was some way to let some musicians stand out above the others, particularly the ones who are actually dedicated to the profession. Crafters have this in the quality of their goods. Because socializing relies on havingpeople around, the real musicians need to be in popular places. Because musician xp and healing xp rely on having an audience, the grinders need to be in the same place. My best suggestion is to remove the incentive for the grinders like myself to be in the cantina by increasing the reward for doing entertainer missions.
Another suggestion is for the system to randomly pick a group of 3 flourishes that provide a higher xp reward every 5 minutes. A sequence would be betterbut that would beslightly more programming. If you're actually there, you'll notice that flourish 2 and flourish 6 gave more and you would adjust your routine. Kind of like a low-tech dance dance revolution type mini-game (a musical game that I actually like).

/salute! I'm here
I don't know about the devs, but I try to read every post in this forum.
I understand that some players don't want to pay $15/month to be a Musician -- fine by me. Such a person obviously isn't a Socializer; I am. If everyone wanted to be a Musician, that would bother me more, because then I wouldn't have any niche to fill.
The entertainer classes were (are?) one of the most significant innovations in SWG. For the first few months, I thoughtit worked pretty well: hardly anyone I knew AFK'd their way up to Master. (I didn't even have a macro on my hotkey bar!) Now it's a different story. Like you, I wish the devs had adopted a more interesting and involved system for acquiring the Jedi slot. And there are days when I wish they had never included a macro function at all.
All of which leads me to the broken record I have been playing for the devs for weeks: we Musicians need a greater variety of things to do. Quests (epic or otherwise), more interesting gig missions, new songs and instruments and effects, entertainer-oriented points of interest, NPC pets in our bands, gambling in cantinas, whatever. Of all those things listed, the only thing I can say with certainty is in development is new songs, and maybe better gig missions. That's good, but it's not enough.

Used to my friend, used to. I've been playing around in musician for a month or so now finally mastering a few days ago. I made the grind to master musician mostly so when we raid and stuff there is someone to buff/heal wounds. You'd be surprised how few entertainers there are on a raid. Infact, if it weren't for holocrons I'd wager there would never be another musician in a raid. So that's my main reason.
That isn't to say I haven't enjoyed this profession. There are a few choice songs that I enjoy and there have been times where I've found myself chatting it up. All I was saying with that post was that there are a lot of people who don't like the profession in the least and it's best to stay out of their way and those people stay out of ours.
