I suggest we all start complaining to SOE as hard as possible about this buffbot stuff... if we complain enough they will break at some point...

when i was first told about the game last summer, the guy who told me about it emphasized the game by telling me you can even be a hairdresser in the game1 i thought this was silly -- until i started playing. i went to the cantina just once and i was hooked (this was in the summer mind you). I eventually became a master musician and ever since i have been somehwat disappointed. what disappoints me is the widespread afk-ing that goes on. even when i advertise to give people musician buffs for free, they STILL go to the buffbot! ok, i can see why they do it -- essentially, they believe that entertainers are just a pain in the ass. but if all these people are thinking that, and the game is steadily becoming more geared towards combat, then why in the hell would i want to stay a musician? especially with the changes coming up with the CU. if anyone can give me any good reasons to remain a musician, please let me know now. otherwise, i am out. i can only hope that the entertainer profession will become like the pilot profession in that it will cost no skill points to be one and then everyone or no one can be an entertainer.

There is one and only one reason to stay a Master Musicain, or Master Dancer, ID, Entertainer and that is because you enjoy it. There is very little real purpose to our professions in the CU as it is known now. The only things we have as of now are inspiration buffs, something no one needs but may want and an entire galaxy could be serviced by one novice entertainer and BF healing which appears to be of minimal need and again an entire galaxy could be serviced by one novice entertainer. I love being an entertainer in SWG which is why I get so outraged at what is being done to us, if you don't love it for it's own sake you have no reason to continue.

Yes, i realized that to be a musician you must do it for the love of it. i would just like to be able to have some meaningful role in the game. and yes, i know quitting is an option, either the game or at the very least the profession. it is just that i love the idea of being a musician and i am unable to really get into it because of the prevalence of the bots hanging around. it has been hard to be a musican up to now, but i was ready to hang on. but now? well, i will think it over some more beforei make my final decidion but i must say the preliminary indications are that it is going to go.

We have yet to see what the elite professions really do.

The inspiration buffs were only a start, it seems.

The Dev, Phydeaux-K9, actually said they're working towards things that will encourage people to be at the keyboard, which will increase our benefits to people.

Things will probably get better soon. Whether that happens before you seek out something that's more fun is the thing. If you feel inclined to seek fun in something besides Musician, just remember that you can always change professions and get Musician back. You also might want to consider what you can get with Musician 0/0/4/0, which lets you keep all instruments and songs except the Nalargon and Virtuoso.

The only reason I see now is you are the only player who can place a cantian or theater in a player city. My question is, are cantinas even needed now in player cities?

that's a good question about cantinas in player cities. to date. i dont think i have seen even one player city cantina that had more than one person in it. and the places where i have seen people are only theed, coronet and tatooine. and of course the buffbots on dantooine. i have decided to hold on a while longer and i hope it makes a difference. i remember when i got to know a little about professions, i thought it would be cool to be a musician/rifleman and then i could go out on huntsw and truly be useful. granted, i am not in a guild so maybe this was wishful thinking on my part, but still. it could have been cool.

What version of the CU are you playing, buecause it sounds better than the one I am. There have been no statements that AFK is going in the CU. There will be little to no oncentive to have an AFK bot, but that is not "preventing" them.

You are right though on what to do in the post CU world, but there will still be bots and grinders.

The main problem is the ability to join a band or do a concert will be severely impacted by the 8 player limit on groups.

The devs have promised to get rid of bots... "It destroys the game" as they said... I believe that... I want to anyways...

The latest from the DEVs has actually been in complete support of the bots. They are here and doubtless here to stay and have the blessings of SOE.
