Destroy The Game... In The Name Of Combat!!
This seems to be SOE's Roman-Empire-Like Path...
For nearly Two Weeks (However long Publish 14 was on Test Center) Testers have been giving feedback on the new "Snappy" Movement changes.
Every single day, The Current Test Center Publish Discussion Threads were filled with the same negative feedback. (I was there from the first one and on... checking those threads and waiting to see some kind of response to the many concerns).
Never once did they respond to the complaints. No replies to the questions of "Why is this being implimented?".
I'm serious, every day those threads were filled with negative feedback on the new movement, including several posts from people that claim to become physically ill from the visual effects of the "Snappy" movement.
They announce the Publish is going live the next morning and finally respond to the questions about whether the movement changes are going live with one sentence, saying it's "Staying in"... Offering no explanation, just that this core game mechanic change that has resulted in enormous amounts of negative feedback is going live.
The nest morning, it goes live and before 11 AM EST there are 9 Pages of Feedback (Nearly all of them negative feedback on the "Snappy" Movement).
At this point, Tiggs creates a "Snappy Movement Feedback Thread" to focus the discussion.
In Her Thread, it is finally revealed that the reasons for the "Snappy" movement is entirely for Combat purposes... for the way combat will be with the Combat Upgrade.
What a shock... less realistic, less immersive, less appealing movement visuals for the deeper involvement of Combat.
I know that we've all been aware that this Game has been moving closer and closer to a First Person Shooter... but every once in a while the gradual changes all combine and build a sledge hammer that appears right above your head and slams down with all of it's weight...
And you think, "I shouldn't have been surprised by that... yet I'm still so disappointed."
Just my observations and opinions.

The first thing I did was make sure it didn't effect walking and it doesn't. I suppose it may be time to change the default to not run.

Yes, that is what I ended up doing on Test Center as well.
Good suggestion.
Honestly, I've always walked a lot in game, but the animations still look poor (Especially compared to what it's looked like until now).

You seem surprised by this. You must be new around here or something. This is standard operating procedure for the SWG team, especially with regards to entertainers. Witness the ent quests and the jukeboxes. Once something hits test, any requests for feedback are strictly a formality.
Give it time, you'll get used to it and relax into a happy state of apathy like the rest of us.

LOL
Look at my registration date...
Changes like this "Snappy" (Or see S****y) Movement are unacceptable for the reasons I choose to play this game (Musician or any Profession).
I know how things work, but every once and a while the load piles up and breaks through another level.
The Sky ain't falling, but the immersive qualities of this game sure are.

So...can you describe this change more fully? I still don't understand it. We all run faster or something?
EDIT: Ignore that query. I stopped being such a lazy SOB and went and read the focus thread, got an eyeful. I'm just as confused why they decided to implement something like this.

We're all gonna be a bunch of moronic gazelle-looking freaks, insta-burst running everywhere.
And I fully agree - it'sa shame that they basically morphed a core function in the game into something very spastic, for the sole purpose of combat.
Just when I was gaining hope things weren't so combat-centric.
I haven't really tried to decorate with this change in. I'm terrified of what being in a small house will look like, when REALLY trying to move around a lot.
So, it looks like the "high and mighty" have bestowed upon us what WE should think is a better way to play the game. Most of the posted opinions beg to differ.
If the CU has something to do with the changes, why the HELL would they do that everyone who plays the game, regardless of whether they do combat or not? Shouldn't be a "combat phreak" mode or something? Why would they bother putting this in now, rather than putting in when it's context makes ANY kind of sense?
The focus thread is kind of a joke, yeah - they've had how many "focus threads" now that have eloquently, empathatically, and categorically stated that the FREAK OUT "snappy" changes are really lame. When people who've NEVER posted in the forums before log in just to complain, you know this is one poor-*ss choice to put in the game.
But hell, now the ignored feedback gets it's own thread! Pffffft. Sure. Glad I pissed my time away posting in any other thread. What a joke.
Looks like we have a choice:
"Slow and steady"
-or-
"Run like an antelope, out of control" (with apologies to Phish)
This change is so reflective of exactly this MMORPG's problems - it's HOT or COLD. BLACK or WHITE. EXTREMELY HIGH loot rate or NON-EXISTANT loot. There is no middle ground in anything done by the Devs - it's got to be WAY FAR to one extreme or the other. Yet another example: the JTL AI debacle. They jacked it WAY UP and pilots were like mad aces with stellar ship control, or they just did the never-ending "jousting" where you got one hit in, he zapped the JUNK outta you, then he flies by, you turn around and get another hit in, he comes back and zaps you again...and so on. Then it took weeks of griping until they realized, oh crap, look - there's a MIDDLE AREA to this slider! WOW!!!!!!!
I'm not happy with the change, but it's obvious my thoughts and the thoughts of countless other players don't matter, so I'll play what I get, and suffer for the combat side of the game. I really didn't expect anything different.

Haha, that made me laugh so much Warryyr... Thank you!
Oh man... it's a shame, we never seem to interact with each other, other than when we're fighting some uphill battle against changes we feel will hurt the integrity of this game.
It's probably the same with you... I'm actually a rather positive person in RL... some times I feel like a jerk around here, because nearly every time I'm posting on these forums, I'm criticizing something.
Hehe, I'm really not that negative... I swear!!
Changes like this make me wonder why I don't just host Pen And Paper SWRPG's and be done with this company.

I think they have found a way to make sure that the Entertainers don't complain about the game anymore. They just make it unplayable. I absolutely hate this new movement system, it is totally immersion breaking and is making me sick to my stomach and dizzy. I guess this may really be the end.

Well, since I'm mostly in 1st person mode when moving around, that doesn't affect me as much - after playing for a few hours yesterday I didn't even notice it anymore - but it still looks unnatural and silly as anything to see others zipping around like they're straight out of an episode of Roadrunner vs. Wile E. Coyote.
And also, there's of course the usual principle that the customer is always supposed to be right, but SOE never really cared about that either. Hundreds of negative feedback posts? Well, who gives a damn! Even if I myself wouldn't have a problem with the new movement system, based on the feedback of other players I'd still be for removing it. And that doesn't even take into account those people that get motion sickness from the new system. That's also been reported a lot on the TC threads, and - you guessed it - also been ignored. I mean, how indifferent to your customers can you get?? When SOE is concerned, the answer is of course "plenty".
Yeah, one more thing worries me: Tiggs has implied that this new way of moving would be essential to function well with the new combat changes. So now they're going to make ground combat twitchy as well? Dammit, I didn't sign up to play Counterstrike here!

Hehe, yeah I really feel bad for anybody that suffers physical effects from this kind of stuff.
I haven't experienced that, although to be honest, I disliked the look of the movement so much I didn't care to play for too long.
My personal complaint about what they changed (just for anyone else that may be curious) is that our avatars now look like they are moving in a much less realistic manner.
It looks more like the Jedi Knight FPS Games.
Your character stiffly moves from standing still to a full sprint and then right back to a straight-up stance when you stop.
Even if no player ever experienced any physical effects from this, I would be SO against this change. (Of course, I'm not an arse and I actually care about other people, so even if I liked the change, I'd be calling for them to remove it if it made other people sick)
In my opinion, it cheapens the look of this game.
When it went on to Test Center, I played there that night and could not believe that they would push it to Test in that state (Never mind Live).
Another shame is that now the discussion thread has turned into trolls calling people claiming physical illnesses to be liars and drama queens.
Just another great example of SOE bringing our community together.

Yeah, I feel a bit guilty and dirty when I come onto the forums myself these days. It doesn't feel write to get so depressed and negative abotu the announcements for the game. They're just so far aschew of what anyone I know who plays wants from the game that my jaw drops. But then, I'm old now (29) and I know I'm well past thegames target demographic. So I'm trying to just chalk it up to being a bitter old man and enjoy playing while I can.

Wow I'm hoping the twitchy run thing isn't _my_ doing; I did write a post last week about how pvp play is usually done in FPS games and PVP mmo'ers generally come here because they don't have the twitch skills....
It would be my luck that this would be the ONE thing they take out of context from a post and would put into the game.
J/k of course.
