Updated 4/27...Still works in Pub 8

People have asked how I do my "QuickBuff". So here it is!

OK listed in order is what I have done in terms of experimenting and those results. Also I have included what I do to deliver a FULL VALUE/FULL DURATION music buff in 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

My experiments....

First I determined how often you can flourish and actually have the server "see" the flourishes.

In extensive experiments I found that the server will not recognise more than 5 flourishes at one time.

Second I experimented with how often I could Spam 5 flourishes and have them reliably be recognised.

Again...extensive experiments show that once every 8 seconds is fairly reliable. There are instances where the 5 flourish block does not show every 8 seconds, but it is more reliable than 7 seconds where almost every third block of flourishes goes AWOL.

Lastly I tested to see what length of time provides the full 2 hour buff.

Initial time trials--

All buffs deliver full value stats. No "performance Enhancing" food was used.

Playing a Chidinkalu Horn/SW1 "Directed Performance" buff

Listen time of 2 minutes Buff duration 1 Hr 17 minutes

Listen time of 3 minutes Buff duration 1 Hr 52 Minutes

Listen time of 3 minutes 15 seconds Buff duration 2 hours

Listen time of 3 minutes 10 seconds Buff duration 2 hours

Playing a Chidinkalu Horn/Virtuoso "Directed Performance" buff

Listen time of 3minutes Buff Duration 1 Hr 51 minutes

Playing a Chidinkalu Horn/Virtuoso Group "Passive" buff

Listen time of 3 minutes 10 seconds Buff duration 2 hours

Since the tests I have been delivering "active" and "passive" buffs in 3:10 and have had no issues except one instance of the "death bug", but I witnessed the deathand it wasreal painful one at the hands of an Ancient Bull Rancor and it was less than 1 hour after I had buffed the person before.

Here is my procedure for doing the buffs:

I begin playing with no flourishes.

I make sure the"target" is listening to me.

I /setperf on that person.

I activate my flourish macro....

/flourish 1

/flourish 2

/flourish 3

/flourish 4

/flourish 5

/pause 8

/ui action toolbarSlotxx (the "looping" command)

I start my clock timer

After 3 minutes 10 seconds I either redirect my /setperf to another listener, or /dump the macro and stop playing or go back to normal music.

In a group buff I do all the same except I omit the /setperf

This procedure does have its downside. My Action/Quickness/Stamina are not the best (I'm MonCal so its all about Mind) so I am unable to maintain this saturation of flourishes for very long without something (Buff, Sunburn, Medicwith lightning reflexes). A 3:10 buff with my current stats (default MonCal that I do not recall ATM) burn down 22-2400 Action (I tried with only an action buff and was successful, but had to rest after each one). Sunburn does the trick very well but only lasts a few minutes and medics have to be quick on the heals. A quickness/Stamina set of buffs is best and for a small fee can allow many buffs.

Everyone has different stats. Experiment on what you can accomplish. You may not need the help I need.

I feel I have tested this enough to call it solid, but let me know if anyone can improve on it at all. I will need to test with "buff shortening" food once I can get some, but if it reduces by a set percentage of time, tests should be easy.

Please let me know what you find.

I have a toon that is musician 3-0-0-3 i'll try this tonight but I think it will still take me a while longer. I know for a fact I can buff with no flourishes with /setp for 15 minutes but hey that doesnt help this thread much. Thanks for info.

Excellent work, thanks! I like how song choicehas no effect on this, and a definitive answer that group buffs are the same as /setperform.

Now to find some crates of Sunburn and T'ssolok.

Please don't afk buff. Musicians get a bad name for it, and real musicians who take the time to earn their money deserve it more than afkers.

Yeah, why is that? I'm just curious - some other professions make money without being at the keyboard and it's no big deal - in fact, it's honored.

For example, a Master Weaponsmith (I'm sure you can think of a big name on your galaxy) when I first started playing would login and run crates of weapons which he would then deposit in vendors. He'd log off and log in as a secondary character and actually play the game. Meanwhile, his vendor is making money for him hand over fist without him at the keyboard interacting with customers. And, this weaponsmith sold tons of weapons for hundreds of thousands of credits - his best weapons went for over a million credits!

Yet, for some reason, there is this weird view that entertainers have to be at the keyboard to give buffs, otherwise it's a bad thing. Why? I mean, a service is being provided, right? How is it any different than purchasing a pre-made weapon from a weaponsmith? And, more than that - a musician doesn't make money the way a weaponsmith does. I've never charged anyone a million credits for a buff - my best buffs won't ever cost what I pay for a weapon, and I'll never make the kind of cold hard cash they do even if I am at the keyboard for 8 hours a day.

It's like people enjoy keeping musicians under their thumbs - "you have to be at the keyboard, you should talk to me, don't ever deny service for bad tips, and - oh yeah - you should only charge 3,000 credits for your buff even though I expect you to be at your keyboard the entire time. Of course, I'll be in the other room getting a drink while my character gets buffed..."

It's a ridiculous double-standard. I say, do whatever you want - people want the buffs, it's a service. Or, hold everyone to the same standard - make weaponsmiths craft the weapon each time they want to make a sale instead of crafting them off an asembly line - yeah, make them stand there and have to craft the weapon taking 8 minutes, the entire time "assembling" (like flourishing) to ensure the weapon "takes" then give it to a person and then say "I've crafted this weapon for you - please tip me". LOL - I think you get the point...

It's the entertainers who actually want to *play* a Musician [Entertainer] who hate this, really. Entertainer was intended as a social class. By encouraging AFK buffs (and, in fact, *any* AFK entertainers), we're deprived on the social interaction we wanted.

Weaponsmiths are not entertainers. They are Artisans. With the exception of Tailors, I'd rather help them get the components they need to make the best weapons, well, same as what's now out there. Tailors who do Custom Jobs will tell you that they probably get the best amounts of cash when giving personal attention.

One last thought. Artisans all ready /denyservice to anyone that doesn't meet their price. (you don't pay list, you don't get the gun. Dig?)Does that mean Enterainers should do it, too?

The people who want to interact with you will whether there's a buff bot or not. Why do you want forced interaction with people who have no desire to interact with you?

Fascinating. Let me get this straight: your macro has 5 flourishes in a row, with no /pause command betwen flourishes? Then a /pause 8? Does the listener actually hear more than one or two flourishes? The reason I've never flourished five-in-a-row like that, without pauses, is that the listener won't hear all of them. It had never occurred to me that the *server* might nonethless recognize them.

I'll try this this weekend. Pretty nifty if it works. 3:10 -- heck, I know doctors who take longer than 190 seconds to buff me.

Not that this is the right place for it but....I just hit Master Dancer and tried the "Patent Pending Fragpuppie Uber 3:10 QuickBuff" for dance.

It works there also in 3:10....need to verify if I can or can't go faster though.
