(Sorry I like cute titles.)
The proposed changes effectively kill the merchant profession. Better rename it now, maybe Self Storage Expert would be more fitting.
Now I understand that most people who get and keep Master Merchant currently are not really merchants either. They (I,Us) use it to sell the fruits of
their/my/our crafts. Alas, as it stands now with a meager 6 vendors, it is impossible to play a real merchant/trader because you can at best service 6 crafters, using one vender per. With the current system even this does not work well as most items sell better when grouped in separate vendors (ie Stims vendor, Buff vendor, Would/Cures vendor).
With 6 vendors limited to 110 items each I can not
adequately cover all the things I can craft. And I can only have 2-3 separate locations if I limit myself to 2-3 types of items. An improved interface would greatly increase the utility of vendors but frankly I don't know if I will live long enough to see that happen.
So this kills forever any chance of having a real merchant class. You know, one who buys items to resell them. This is sad because that type of character is probably the pinnacle of a working player run economy.
So long Willly Loman.

Love the title haha
I use 5 vendors now, and trust me all have over 110 items and I am only 3004 in Merchant. I would master it but I only have one account and I would like to be somewhat able to defend myself in PVE so I took up Master Swordsman. I guess all crafters can forget about participating in PVP unless they have a jedi or another account

Todays publish March 24, 2005 seems to have effectively destroyed the need for master merchant? Am i wrong? What are the benefits of doing this? Why did i gain XP in the merchant tree just to see artisans gets just as much advertising power are me? Is this now a profession that can be dropped? Also, people with malls out there what happens now. Most people will flock to the tents and malls outside of the mining outpost on Dantooine, small city commerce is pretty much dead now isn't it? Should I drop master merchant? What would some people here keep?

I'd wait. The system, as is, is cumbersome in the extreme. So, either it will be changed, or people won't use it. Giving up now is an overreaction.

Bingo.
I urge you to search-enable all your (non-storage) vendors.

I made about 30+ sales due to this patch, my shop is on Talus (no one goes there) and in a player city. I just dont see how this could be bad for buisness, if you have good high quality items to sell people will come to your shop.

I've made one sale so far, despite having one-cred furniture and stuff like tanned hides on sale for 1999, which is cheaper than the schematics sell for on our server.
Something that's normally a strong seller--crates of powerups--will not be found easily by those looking, due to pages upon pages upon PAGES of unsortable factory crates. Luckily I named them for what they are, "Melee Powerups - (stats here) - <PEnt>" instead of "Parsec Powerups by Stof - 99% - Melee - (stats here)". I have a shot at being found.
I also dropped a few specially named ones on my powerup vendor named, "Melee Powerup - (stats) - 4k/Crate" hoping to catch some eyes under the Powerups section of the search.

But
Is master merchant really necessary now?
Or is it a waste of SP you think?

I think it's too early to tell. They may have to limit who "gets" to use the vendor search function if the database is overwhelmed. I'd hold on to the points for a little while yet.
