Stop me if you've heard this before....

SOE pulls 660 items across 6 vendors from the air.

Everyone goes ballistic, most threatened to unsubscribe, yadda yadda yadda... 40 page thread.

SOE officially comes forward and states "We hear you Merchants! After careful consideration we've decided to up the vendor limit to 1500 across 6 vendors!"

There was much rejoicing... the masses thank SOE profusely and get the warm fuzzy feeling that they listen to us and care about us.

How long will it take for you to realize that you got 'sneak poked'? And not even a kiss.

1500 is still too low! My powerups will take all that, not including my bikes, weapons, harvs, houses, repair kits, generic crafting kits, and on and on.

I dont know whats more worrying.

The fact i suspect you are right and its just a SOE tactic to get a figure they want approved.

Doesnt say a lotfor my opinion of SOE that does it!

Or

They actually think 660IS a reasonable figure

Doesnt say a lot for SOE that does it!

I would just like to say that Sony has given me one thing. A truely new experience: considering Microsoft to be the lesser of two evils.

Yes, it's pretty obvious - I even posted as such in the large thread DocSavag started.

They always do this, so in the end they come out looking like heroes.

However, it's not just about merchant caps - it's about changing the whole paradigm of selling in this game, where people have been allowed to sell their own items for over a year and are now being told that unless they master merchant you have to sub-let to another player.

This might have worked in beta, but not now.

< you have to sub-let to another player. >

and I do that *how*?

I have to make all my items as normal, then find a Merchant who wants to sell them, agree with a price (which is probably lower than I currently charge), and he can then sell them for whatever he wants (probably more than I currently charge)?

That sucks so much it's not funny.

Look if SOE comes out andtells usthey are going to raise the monthly fee to $150 a month and after all the complaints, settles to only raise it to $75 a month, I dont see that as a compromise...its still and absurd number, much like the propossed vendor limits...

If vendors are limited from infinite to 100, 1000, or 1mil items it is still to much of a nerf. You cant go from unlimited amounts to very very small finite amounts and expect to maintain any sense of rational perspective.

We only have one skill..the ability to sell items on vendors ....The limitation of that skill does not enhance anyones game play.

They did that exact crap with Housing Limits! When they decided to first try and shaft crafters they said "Oh, we've putting in housing limits.. 25 items per lot!" People of course went completely nuts over a MEDIUM HOUSE holding the same amount as a BACKPACK! So just like you said, they "listened to the community" and "raised" the limit to 75 items per lot, still 100 less than it was. We of course thought "hey, we're getting 3x what they said!" when the truth was "hey, we're losing 100 lots per house for no reason?".

The worst part about it was we were told the housing limits were temporary! That was a year ago.

Sony needs to get a better database and stop destroying crafters for their own completely inept database failures. Fire whoever the just-outta-technical-college fool who was that designed this and get someone who knows MMORPGs and real databases (Sorry, Oracle is NOT designed for this stuff) to fix their problems without blaming the userbase and drastically hurting their paying players.

Exactly.

And good luck at finding merchants who will outlay the cash ahead of time. I have a feeling most are going to want to work on a consignment basis, and without a secure system to make sure we get paid, we simply have to trust the word of someone over the internet.

Even if they do pay us up front (which is the only way I'd even begin to consider this), they are not going to have the specialized knowledge it takes to sell my products. How can a merchant sell my droids effectively knowing what module does what, what "level 6 armor" does, what does "Combat Rating : 540" mean, ad infinitum?

Even if they increase the Master Merchant benefit to a couple of thousand items, still most MM's will only be selling their own items. The few that will sell other people's wares aren't going to be able to sell for EVERY SINGLE crafter in the game.

I mean, again, even if they up it to a couple of thousand items over six vendors, they can only serve 2-3 crafters (especially people like tailors). Add up all the crafting professions, from A (armorsmith) to W (weaponsmith), and do the Devs really think that there are going to be enough merchants in the game to play vendor-monkey for EVERY crafter in the game?

It's all many of us can do to have ONE combat profession at this point so we can go out and experience a bit more of the game other than staring at a crafting screen or dragging endless crates of components around from backpack to factory to backpack again, and forcing anyone who wants to sell their own stuff to pick up merchant isn't going to fly either. Forget PvP, of course, but it is nice to be able to go out and have fun playing a bit of combat (even though those with full combat templates will, rightfully, always be much better at it).

Either way, springing this on us in Publish 10 is not the way to go.

Why do they keep making the game less fun with each "fix" that goes in?
